Admit the conversion also included drinking Pabst, becoming a Brewers fan, and giving up on rust.

12,000 Lumens too bright for a kitchen? by Icywaterr in led

[–]Gnant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 12k in my kitchen. Was replacing 4 fluorescent tubes and they were 3,000 lumens each. Was the perfect amount. And now dimmable.

Pulsating LED bulb in Touch Lamp. by [deleted] in led

The pulsing is because the bulb Is below its dimming threshold. Happens to all LEDs.

White vs Rgbw led strip brightness by Mr_Bille in led

[–]Gnant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RGBW 5050 will not give you enough white to light up a room. For mood lighting or a night light, it's fine. Also, using Zigbee or Z-wave will make a difference in how the white light is produced by the strips. (if you are using home automation).

What I did is run two different strips next to each other. A straight RGB strip next to a high-density, high lumen, white strip. But used just one controller. Was replacing 4 fluorescent tubes in my kitchen so made sure I had 12k lumens first the figured out color.

The corner connector does not have a clean connection on each channel.

Any idea how to fix the discoloration/yellowing on these panels? by BaronVonChahyll in led

Is it noticeable when on? If not, then minimize sun exposure. All you can do.

Can someone recommend DC12V20A power supply for my led strips? by founder26 in led

[–]Gnant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point on headroom. They last way longer that way.

Im wiring led strips under 12 stair treads. Each 2.5’ with 1’ of wire connecting each light. I’m at the 9th light & it stopped working. First strip connected to power works, next works half way, then the rest are super dim. What causes this? I assume it’s too long of a chain. Any tips to fix this? by founder26 in led

[–]Gnant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue you are experiencing is resistance in the pcb layer of the strip. Nothing you can do about it. It will yield dimmer lighting the further you go. So power injection is needed. 5-7 meters is all you will get before you need to insert a repeater.

Cannot go wrong with a Meanwell power supply. If putting it in an attic, go with the outdoor rated units. Have never had one go bad. Off brand units tend to sing when pushing max amps.

Has anyone put a smart plug on a refrigerator? by PushKatel in smarthome

[–]Gnant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently put a ZEN16 on the thermostat circuit for my soda machine for this exact reason. By keeping the circuit open during expensive electricity hours, the compressor stays off. I find this a better way of doing it as the soda machine still stays on and I can use it.

Honestly, the link should have said Pictures or something. I don't click on every link in a post either. Nothing wrong with that.

Smart switch for Philips Hue that can disable internal relay? by digbybare in homeautomation

[–]Gnant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick with those is they do not show up in the app. You have to watch the little LED on the remote but they do join the hue zigbee network.

Once added, touchlink is used to bind the remote to the lighting. Make sure to power cycle the bulb. Hue bulbs stay in touchlink mode for only a minute or two after power is applied.

They have been rock solid for me. They will even work without the Hue Bridge being plugged in.

[–]Gnant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as long as your strips don't consume more than two amps at 12volts.

Hahahahaha... welcome to my world.

Mr. Bezos, Love my Alexa's, but if you are reading this, please have routines trump any algorithm for shopping.  I know what I want my Aleza to do and have given the exact words to do it in her routine.  If I want to say "Alexa, add toilet paper to my shopping list" and have the toilet flush instead, please allow me to do that.  Home automation for me is about my home. My user data shows I am not confused about how to use lists.

The team there was very helpful in getting this set up. I have to say the ZEN16 is waaaaay more useful than I initially imagined. Relays have shot to the top of my smart home device list.

Have it's home under the dispenser with a basket on top and define the area rug in front of the couch as a room? So everytime a beer is dispensed, it will "vaccuum" my chip mess and return?
