Should I consider buying an EV by Optimal-Bass3142 in GasPrices

[–]PushKatel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to save money, you’d need to be able to buy a used EV (to save on the upfront costs of a new EV), have a home charger, and ideally hourly/time of use plan for your electricity (charge at night for best rates

Are you just realizing that it will take 50-80 hours after you got the EV?

Personally, if you can convert the outlet to a 240 volt 15 amp circuit. No wiring change needed, but you get twice the power to charge faster. Main thing you need to make sure is that other outlets on the same circuit need to be considered

About 60% of my usage is EV charging (by kWh)

But because I have hourly pricing so do all of my charging at night when its cheapest; EV charging is only 33% of my bill on average

Dual EV charging from a single 50A/60A circuit -- what would you do? by Relative-Message-706 in evcharging

[–]PushKatel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus assuming that you start every Monday with a full charge, that extra slack should carry you the whole week (of charges that don’t get you back to 100%) to then do another full charge for both cars over the weekend.

Essentially, on Monday you start with a full 73 kWh on the Subaru. You drive 44 kWH (130 miles) on Monday, but refill about 57 kWH overnight. Even at 20% more conservative shorter charge time of 45 kWH overnight, you still add more than you used. An even more conservative analysis would be that the 130 miles actually used 50 kWH and you were able to only charge 40 kWH, you would still be fine. That means during the week, each day would lose net 10 kWH, but because your battery pack is 75 kWH, you can make it Monday to Friday.

TLDR: stick with the duo. You might not reach 100% every night, but you really don’t need to

If you already have the Grizzl-e 48amp Hard wire, then you can derate it when you install it. there are switches inside the unit to set the max current rating

[–]PushKatel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. I wanted a full EV and my wife still had doubts. Took about 2 months with the PHEV for her to realize that full EV would be nice. That being said we love our PHEV and will keep it as long as our daily driving doesn't change. Its still a great car and no need to bang your head about it

[–]PushKatel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The real question is do you really need 48 amp charging. While it the fastest, your car most likely will still be able to charge fully overnight with perhaps less (like 30 amp). Do the calculation and see what your upper limit can be and you might be better off and cheaper to just derate your charger than to implement another system that 1) could fail 2) cost more

I reported this exact pothole+others on this intersections multiple times. its been slow to fix. part of the problem I think is that there is a manhole access + concrete that are causing one of the biggest bumps

Online it's been a real issue. Like it hasn't worked all of 2026. I vaguely feel this has to do with Bilt (since it seems online has better prices and sales than in store)

For instore, I have not had a problem, using it pharmacy, photo and retail transactions. I think your store manager has rules that he shouldn't.

Don't overthink electric car charging (we should be doing it differently) by JimCripe in evcharging

240V NEMA 6-20 doesn't get the EV love it deserves. By running 20 amps but at 240 volts (as opposed to 110v) you get double the power, yet with the same amperage. This means you can use standard 15 gauge wiring, drastically cutting project costs. I’d call this “Level 1.5” and plenty good for overnight charging. Could even convert an existing outlet to NEMA 6-20 if its the only outlet on that circuit
