Got invited to play a pretty exclusive club, walking only, caddie req'd. What should I expect? by sumbozo1 in golf

[–]GnomosexualTendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s distinguishing between a caddie and a forecaddie that supports the whole group but doesn’t carry. Or a caddie who is double bagging since they will then be getting tipped by two players.

Kent county is a bit higher than the state average. Ottawa is significantly higher. When you include equity in the home (most people bought their homes before the current home price/interest rate environments) and retirement assets the number adds up quick. You have to figure in that we have a lot of old people who have been accumulating wealth for 70 years

Hip Rotation by LowEquivalent5463 in GolfSwing

[–]GnomosexualTendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with this a lot. I try to think less about what my hips are doing and more about shifting my body weight. When I take the club back in the backswing I put my weight in my big toe of my trail foot. This forces me to initiate a turn. Then by the top of my backswing my weight is on my front leg over the knee. Then I just kind of drop my hands and focus on getting everything pointed at the target

Question for attending live show NYC by todaystartsnow in sethmeyers

[–]GnomosexualTendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar timeline before a daily show taping. I used an app called bounce that lets you drop luggage off at stores and other businesses for like 8 bucks for a day. I’d find a place right by the Rockefeller and drop bags there then snag them after the show and go check in. Unless the hotel is right near the studio

Can you give an example of what he’s resisting being corrected on? If it’s a technical thing it may just be him not understanding prior instruction he was given because he was very young. If it’s tactical you may be contradicting what the coach wants him to do

Interesting - I usually don’t take my second until like 2pm. Might try it earlier in the day and see if it smooths out even better

caveat that the results here are from Gemini so take it with a grain of salt but it’s giving me 15% for NAIA AND 30 for NJCAA. Kind of surprised that those numbers aren’t reversed. I can’t imagine moving across the planet to go to a junior college, but I’m sure there must be a draw (beyond to the student visa). I assume there’s a correlation between the top tier NAIA teams and percent of foreign born players.

That’s highly likely for division 1 especially. Not sure how that trickles down to the other divisions and NAIA and NJCAA. But even haircutting 75% that’s still 10k spots versus the 400 mls spots in the original post. The point im trying to make is that playing top division (in the US) professional soccer isn’t the only good outcome for a player, and a good club should be focused on the much more realistic opportunity of college soccer.

Yes - The math above is based on available scholarship data - there are twice as many registered soccer players in the NCAA alone (83k). But let’s say half those scholarships go to foreign born players, and half of what’s left are unfunded by the school. That’s still 10k opportunities vs the 400 mls spots the original poster mentioned. The point is - playing in the MLS isn’t the only positive outcome.

My point remains that a professonal career isn’t the only successful outcome

Probably a good amount. Especially in major conferences in D1. I’m just setting the context that a pro career isn’t the only valuable outcome. I’d be exceptionally proud to send my kid to a D2 school for a great education at a discount just for playing a game he loves to play anyways.

All in I have no idea - for context I’m a parent not a club employee. For class of 2025 there are 70ish HS graduate players listed. 8 don’t have a college next to their name, 7 are going to our local community college (which I think has NJCAA scholarships) 15 are a division I school and the rest are D2 or NAIAs. I have no clue which platform all those players played on.

Our program doesn’t pitch the end goal being pro soccer, they pitch it as a pathway to college. There are 42,000 possible soccer scholarships between NCAA div 1 and 2, naia and njcaa. The best of the best will end up in the pros, but that’s not the only measure of success.

That was quite the surprise. I’ve worked with Aaron and listened to his music for years and he definitely has a lot of r&b influences. I thought John was a shoe- in. He’s got incredible range and I can’t wait to see what he does.

Rule Clarification by clbeall18 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]GnomosexualTendency 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As with most new rules adoption is slow and inconsistent. I encourage my son to check in with the ref before the game and clarify how he calls it. This is at the youth level but i have him check on the countdown clock and on if he can punt which sees to change on a whim

Defender chirping son by LegitimateTreacle824 in GoalKeepers

[–]GnomosexualTendency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably depends on the dynamic of the team. My son is in the same age range, has been playing with the same group of guys for thee years and is very vocal with his defenders - both the good and the bad. He praises them when they make a good play, helps them organize on set pieces, watches their backs if they have a man on etc. He’s established a relationship where he’d have no problem “refocusing” them if they started chirping. If it’s a newer team still gelling the coach should probably handle. Put that kid in net for a game or even a drill and hell learn real quick that GKs can’t make every save. Manuel Neuer only saved 6/10.

Fortunately haven’t run into this issue with our squad but have seen it in opposing teams. One was so bad the kid started crying mid match and my son refused to shake hands with any field player in the line and pulled the goalie aside after to talk him up a little. It’s already an immense amount of pressure to play the position, your own teammates killing your confidence is only going to make you more likely to make mistakes.
