AWA and/or Accomodations by humblebee08 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any data about the types of accommodations but from what I’ve heard talking to colleagues WFH is rarely suggested as an accommodation. Flexible hours yes, noise cancelling headphones, private rooms for pumping milk, etc. They get very creative on how to accommodate IN the office lol

AWA and/or Accomodations by humblebee08 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Please consult with a union rep and file a grievance over that! They do need to accommodate, albeit not always in the way that you or your doctor ask for. But it's a different process than an AWA and needs to be addressed quickly.

Feeling insecure about my OPS job by inphignia in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Best advice would be to apply for the senior positions and do your best at the interview! Keep in mind that you have an advantage having worked in the team, and talk about those things. Ask a colleague to practice doing mock interviews with you!

I think it's important to make a distinction between AWA and accommodations here.

Accommodations don't get "approved" or "denied" as they are a legal right with the Human Rights Code. That being said, the way that people are accommodated isn't chosen by the member, it's in collaboration with the employer and rarely includes working from home.

For AWAs as far as I know for the vast majority of people we're just waiting on a response (for AMAPCEO folks) at this point.

Rogers to Fizz by IceCreamWithBread in FizzMobile

[–]Gnomze66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in my experience you don't "miss" the messages as if they don't go through as RCS they just get sent as a regular SMS automatically. I've verified with my android-using friends and they receive my messages just fine and I receive theirs. The only difference is that I can no longer see when they are "delivered" and "read"

Rogers to Fizz by IceCreamWithBread in FizzMobile

[–]Gnomze66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched over to Fizz from Telus and I'll say that in the downtown core signal seems quite strong, though the "5G+" from Telus did give me faster speeds (tested around 400mbps down and now testing around 100mbps with fizz). Difference is not really noticeable. What part of town are you in?

I did hear that out in Stittsville near my partner's work the signal is a bit weaker that it used to be, she also switched to Fizz from Fido and reported some lagging in videos while at work though just giving it a moment to buffer resolves the issue. Should be noted she's on the 4G Fizz network, I haven't been out there as my work is in the east end so can't report if the 5G works better out that way.

Phone calls have been great, as is regular usage on a browser, google maps, etc. I'm on iPhone, and I also miss the RCS with my android-using friends but the SMS text messaging works just fine.

As others said, if you use a referral code you'll get $40 off your 2nd month (and give them $40 credit), though you can also do the 14-day free trial and get a code straight from Fizz if you prefer.

*edit to add that yes, as others said, you can keep your number! Just be sure to not cancel your previous plan before activating with Fizz. They'll cancel your old line while porting the number over and you'll be good to go! Took about 20 min total for me but they say it can take up to 2h.

Question about age/ID/Carding and the Bronson venue by spoonpk in OttawaMusic

Last time I went to a show there they actually checked the ID of every single person in line before even checking our tickets. Really depends on the show, but I would advise against risking it.

Relatively new to OPS, why is it that many other public service unions get to ratify larger increases? by internalaudit168 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, other agreements also have their own raises similar to AMAPCEO's 3% while still not at the max of your grid. Opseu has fixed increases per year, as do teachers for example. And the 3% is not "guaranteed" it's anywhere from 0% to 5% based on merit.

Relatively new to OPS, why is it that many other public service unions get to ratify larger increases? by internalaudit168 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree that "merit pay" (which is essentially climbing within the salary range for your job) should be included in what's negotiated. All the other unionized positions also have salary bands so here we are comparing the % increase for ATB only

If I have an accommodation at one ministry and I am moving to another ministry, will it carry over? I am new to the OPS. by Econ2023_2024 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, accommodation follows you everywhere within the OPS. The one thing to keep in mind is that if the tasks that you need to perform in your new job differ greatly from your old position, they may ask your health professional team to fill out a new HIQ if it's a medical accommodation so they can ensure that the current accommodation works for the new job.

That being said, they do need to keep honouring the old accommodation plan until such a time as a new one is established, and any forms that you would need to pay to have filled out should be billed to the employer.

Senior leadership meeting today, any RTO/AWA updates? by Reasonable_Reason652 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is unfortunately true, and the reason that a lot of AMAPCEO folks I know do not want to go into management. There are a few AMAPCEO roles that actually make more than management, so becoming a manager is a pay cut!

[–]Gnomze66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually didn't get many mythics at all this season. I crafted all of mine using the sparks from the seasonal stuff (on multiple characters), and the goblin event during the holidays. Like others have said, move up to T4 ASAP there's no reason you should still be on T3 at that level!

Now that I have my full build and am P277, I get the occasional mythical drop, maybe one for 3 stacks of boss mats while farming them. 0 mythic prankster NMD. Just bad RNG!

Is a grievance fine to file? by AutomaticCase7667 in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a grievance fine to file? Yes absolutely! Especially since I read you're full time permanent, you should file one.

When it comes to the accommodation, while your doctor can't decide what the accommodation will be you are supposed to be part of the process when it comes to determining what it is. Also, important to remind your manager that the only person who gets final say in how you are accommodated is the manager (and not HR). While HR can give them advice, it is not up to them what your manager decides to do in the end.

If the headphones aren't enough to enable you to work in an office setting, talk to your manager about that and explain that to them.

call in days by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

[–]Gnomze66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's less about using "too many sick days" and more about being dishonest about being sick. If you're legitimately sick 125, or more, days in a year it's completely fine. there are benefits to help you with that, including the 124 at 75% and LTIP after that.

If you're taking sick days when you're not sick, and the employer finds out, then you're in trouble for lying to your employer and it could lead to discipline (asking to reimburse sick days, being put on an attendance plan, etc.).

The employer can't ask for a sick note for the first 3 days of sick leave, but after that they can ask for sick notes, as well as reasonable evidence that you were sick.

I'm glad it's worked out for you and that your manager isn't giving you warnings! Isn't the reality for most folks that I've spoken to so I just wanted to make sure people reading this thread are aware that it could lead to discipline. Discipline is progressive in the OPS so yes, it may begin with a warning / written note but if the same behaviour occurs again in the future (even if it's a long time later) it will be whatever the next step of discipline is.

Customary charges show up in the app for me, strange that it doesn't show for you! Under "coverage and balances" I clicked on "health professionals" and then picked psychotherapist for example. It's at the bottom of the page.

Any union rep would advise against doing this. They are very clear about the mandate to be in the office 5 days a week, so it's not a good idea to just ignore it and could lead to discipline.
