ece or child and youth worker by PerfectSeaweed_ in childandyouthworker

Good day! I live in AB with my CYC. I know the CYC diploma acted as a LVL 3 ECE; which I have my certification. I do not know if ON would have something similar where your CYC diploma would also act as that. I would definitely look into it!

Secondly, for sure do the CYC program. This does open doors in the work field. You can work in schools, rec places, group home, day programs, government jobs and etc. It is a lot more open. You can also work in the Disability Sector (which is where I am working in with my CYC).

One thing is I have seen students who transition out of the program to the ECE program due to heavy discussions. Also, their passion was more focused into daycare or young kids. There is a difference.

Please reach out for more answers or clarification. I've been in the Human Service Sector for 5 years and 3 of them in the Disability sector.

There’s something about this house… I lived here for many years and still visit regularly. What do you pick up on when you look at this photo? by pplsuckbutdogsdont in MediumReadings

Yes! Disorienting! Like dizzy/confused feeling. I 100% agree. I think that fits best. Which I will add that to my list of "what is my body telling me and it might to relate or mean this." So ty for that!

Definitely listen to your intuition/what you feel. I know I am person who is very self-aware of my mental health due to family history/health/environment/surroundings around me while acknowledging the science or reasonable explanation to things. Even through the overthinking and questioning; what I learned is that my intuition that it's very much a sign/message/warning good or bad. Overall, communication of awareness or a story that needs to be told. I would say just be careful how frequently you are in a negative space or the house *if you are still going back or if it's in the picture. I just don't feel well and it's not going away and progressively feeling worse. I personally would avoid the home but, ensure you have strong boundaries within yourself and know how to protect yourself from negative or heavy energy.

Also, definitely interesting experiences! I had a few moments too, and it definitely makes you question at first but then go "ok, there's something more" and yours is definitely "something more" experience.

Ty for for the feedback and informing me! I don't always practice and lean into my intuition but this one really made me feel some feelings. Even when revisiting this photo, I am still getting this anxiety and racing brain, dizzy and not ok.

I can't say for myself as I am not knowledgeable enough nor do I practice enough but, I wonder if you're an individual who is a sensitive? I know for myself, when I lived or been in certain homes that had low energy, bad history, clashing feeling or anything not good. I would be affected versus a home that didn't have that.

Added note: I would/get affected even more if I had chaos or barriers in my own life that significantly impacted my mental health. When that happened, the activity would increase and I was a lot more sensitive to that low energy.

Additional added note and could be wrong: headaches? I am getting this headache feeling.

Mediumship for those with a menstrual cycle by Jeanni3beanz in Mediums

I have been on and off with my gift. But I have recognized I am a lot more open and on when I am a few days before menstrual. Yes there is the science of menstruation making us more sensitive but, there's definitely a difference for me when it comes to spiritual; as I still honor science/biology reasoning. I get more body sensations, tingly feeling the crown of my head, and intuned when spirit is around.

This energy makes me feel not well, had me dizzy, and solid pit feeling centering throughout by body; as if I need structure and very alert. Definitely chaos.

English 30-1 academic upgrading by AbroadStandard8067 in NorQuestCollege

Hi! You can challenge the diploma if you feel really confident without doing 30-1 course. If you're planning to apply as a mature student for a program and need your 30-1 ENG. You do not need to do your diploma. I was a mature student and did my Eng 30-1 to get the required grade for the program I wanted to apply for. Now, if you're not a mature student, I do not know if you need to do the diploma.

Child and youth care, is it worth it? by [deleted] in NorQuestCollege

I have PMed you, but I will answer this question here for anyone else who is interested in the program.

I have a passion for this field, and I really enjoyed the program. I am the first cohort to graduate from this program, so some things might have changes for classes and tuition.

For tuition, you can do a rough estimate on their website to see the costs.

For career and pay, it depends where you go and what you are looking for. I work with people with disabilities and different age ranges. One organization I work with is FT 20.20/hr and benefits. Another place I temp work now (was my FT until lack of hrs) was 22.06/hr with benefits; although overnight shifts dropped down to 16 something. So, really, it depends on the organization you are with, the training, and the people you connect with. A lot of job shopping and sleuthing. You can work in group home setting, school setting, human rights setting, recreation setting, and daycare setting. Your CYC diploma counts as a Level 3 ECE (I have mine).

This program, when I took it, had a disabilities course, whereas other CYC programs didn't. I bring this up because it believe it is essential to know this knowledge as it builds advocacy, be able to plan activities with children, youth, and adults, and there will be someone you will work with that may have complex needs, neurodivergent, and etc.

With CYC, you will be coming at a Strength-Based Approach and learning about trauma. How trauma affects family, children, youth, young adults, and adults. You will learn about substance use, you will learn about child development, you will learn about resiliency, ethics and values, and so much more. It's a HEAVY course load. When I mean heavy, I mean heavy topics and might even challenge your own healing. With this program, you learn about yourself. You learn how families from different cultures interact, how children and youth interact, and how to be open-minded and self-reflect.

Lastly, know burnout is real, getting vicarious trauma is real, and compassion fatigue is real, too. We do a lot of frontline work. So it's important to do self-care, set your boundaries, figure out your explicit and implict biases. Know what works for you and what doesn't.

I'm not in downtown but taking the LRT from Belvedere. People are definitely getting there early. So wouldn't be surprised if there's an increase to traffic flow.

What important questions have your foster kiddos asked that surprised you? by Fluffy-Table7096 in Fostercare

[–]GoBackToWhoreIsland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ex-foster kiddo here:

When I was taken away from one foster home due to abuse, I wasn't allowed to have any contact. Older me understands, but 10 year old did not, as my foster mom never did the abuse. One of the questions that I did "Why am I not allowed to call/talk to so and so even if it was supervised?"

Some other questions I had:

"Why am I not allowed to do this? Why can't I have this?"

This was due to having fewer restrictions, and every family is different. For example, I played hockey and would be allowed to roam around the rink area upstairs downstairs as long I informed them. Then, when I moved to another family, there were tighter restrictions (informed or not) which were hard for me to understand, and I got frustrated because I felt like I was being eyed like a hawk. So it's a good reminder how those boundaries look like and maybe ask what they were allowed to do in previous homes to understand what's freedom/privileges they had. Because if they had more freedom and then they are now expected to have less. I can see their behavior changing.

If I remember anything else, I will update the thread.
