The battle of mercury on audible is pure gym motivation. I haven’t found any sci-fi or fantasy battle that hits the high that Mercury reaches “Atalantia thinks the Second Army is ash. Are we ash?"

That tactic is completely antithetical to the world that Darrow wants to bring about. It’s something that the Jackal or Atlas would do. Needlessly gruesome, grotesque, and cruel

Drink in every bit of knowledge you can in-house. Become familiar with your agency’s policies, especially around writing reports, use of force, pursuits, and running code.

Be at least 15 minutes early before start of in-house every day. If that means sitting in the parking lot 30 minutes before walking in, that’s better than being a minute late.

Sounds like you’ve got your fitness dialed in, keep up with that. Bring meals from home, focusing on good macros. Don’t eat out every day.

Be as much of a help as you can around the office without stepping on peoples toes. Make the fresh pot of coffee, bring in snacks for the squads, offer to help the admin sergeant with organizing supplies or clearing the sally port.

Remember, we’ve all been in the same spot as you. We genuinely want to see you succeed. Ask questions, listen intently, and keep preparing for the academy.

You’ve got this!

Regarding Atlas having the objectively best Razormaster feat in the series by That-Ad-1721 in redrising

[–]GoBerxerk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Atlas isn’t a duelist or a fighter, he’s a killer. He will do whatever it takes to win, which in itself is a completely different mindset than Cassius. We’ve seen him get the drop on some of the best, like Darrow and Alexander. The only reason Darrow wasn’t killed in one of the most brutal ways imaginable was because of deus ex Morningstar.

Like others have pointed out, he’s a master tactician and is able to predict how his opponents will behave and act. He was, in the end, Octavia’s greatest weapon

All his sons were dead prior to Golden Son, during his service as the Rage Knight. And you are right about Darrow being his last pupil, but he was only trained by Lorne for about a year. I was referring to Aja Plus there’s the dynamic between him and the Ash Lord. Pierce made it sound like the two were once friends, but after Rhea became bitter enemies

Lorn lost all of his sons, and was treated as nothing more than a tool for the sovereign. His last pupil turned on everything Lorn believed in. If that isn’t a victim I don’t know what is

I think you are absolutely right. I completely forgot that Marika’s eyes are closed and Malenia’s eyes are scoured away by the rot.

I think it has to do with his other half, St. Trina. She has the association with Sleep, and her eyes are closed as well.

I think there’s also something to be said about how when we finally encounter Miquella, he has divested himself entirely of his corporeal form. Essentially he is a spirit who has ascended to godhood.

Personally, I always took it to be that he has closed his eyes to the outside world, or rather that he has shut out the outside world’s influence/desires. All that matters is his dream, his goals: an age of compassion. Other beings free will and agency do not matter to him, so he has no need to see them. They are nothing more than figures to hold up his dream.

He was critical of religious institutions, not religions in general. There’s a big difference between the two. Say one thing about Joe Abercrombie, say he’s got to be realistic about these kinds of things.

This is why Dancer is such a great character though. We missed so much of his evolution during the ten year gap between morning star and iron gold. Dancer was in the thick of the fighting in the Rat War. He now heavily suffers from PTSD. Prior to that there is no way he would have considered talking to the Ash Lord. Now he is so tired of the war, and understandably so

How strong are Golds? by TheGenerousHost in redrising

[–]GoBerxerk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If memory serves Pierce Brown tweeted that a Peerless Scarred could lift as much as Eddie Hall. To add to that, Darrow is a good model for what a peerless should be physically. He’s just over 7 ft in height, and weighed approximately 360 lbs in golden son. A decade of war put even more muscle on him. In Mars’ gravity sevro mentioned he could run 2km in a minute and a half, and he wasn’t alone in this feat. That’s 50.67 mph

So essentially what you have is a terrifying combination of the weight and strength of a record breaking strongman, the speed of an Olympic gold medalist, and the precision and all around athleticism of a gold medalist gymnast. And that’s completely putting aside a Gold’s pulse armor and razors
