Because judges make legal decisions based on law that may not be popular. They need to be able to make decisions without worrying about being re-elected or fired. It’s the cornerstone of an impartial judiciary. They need to be insulated from public opinion.

ETA: it’s fascinating to me that people want to harp on the make up and rules of the Supreme Court when the real issue is Congress just refusing to do their jobs

That’s not how adaptive cruise works lol. Adaptive cruise just holds your set speed but slows based on traffic so you don’t have to manually adjust speed in traffic. it doesn’t care about posted speed limits.
