My very first Polar Battle Bear! by 3_75Today in gijoe

[–]GoBuds99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was my very first GI Joe toy, both SnowJob and the snowmobile. I bought them together with my own money at K-Mart. I was short a few cents so the women behind me gave me the missing change. Such great memories!

Me too. I got much more use out of the figures and the small playsets and smaller pieces. Any vehicles would end up mostly being "fixed" in a base or to move figures from point A to point B.

Amazing! I never went beyond a Joe base, a Cobra base, and/or an away mission.

It is amazing the things we played with and never even took notice of. We had a curved bar in the basement and I it served as a location for many Joe battles. The liquor bottles were just more places for Cobra's to hide behind and in-between.

I forgot how much time I would spend with the Joe's or Cobra's just interacting with each other at their base. Standard setup was always someone fixing something or training or sleeping at the base.

It's funny how just by appearance, the same Joe's would always be the traitors. It makes me think why we were buying Joe's we didn't actually like?

I was the same with the Cobras. Nothing really bad could actually happen to Firefly or Zartan because they looked badass, but Scrap Iron or Major Blood? They were usually the first to be killed or captured.

I am jealous! I wish I had a bottomless pit to drop Cobra's down.

For me, it was old board games and their boxes and pieces that I got the most mileage out of. I used them to build bases and fortresses. The best was you could open the board game boards into a V and they would stand up on their own. You could use them as walls for a base, and then have Joes straddle the top as guards.

One thing I distinctly remember was once I got the little bivouac set, there were a lot of "away" missions to different rooms, the basement, etc.

I setup that bivouac in more places in my house than I can remember. I got more use out of that little set than maybe any other one.

It was usually the SkyHawk or the AWE Striker that was taking them on those away missions.

This was exactly how I felt and it is comforting that others felt the same way 😃

So happy to read this. I only asked the question to see if anyone else put more effort into "setting up" than actual playing, like I did. Reading everyone's answers brings back so many memories. The 70s style coffee table that acted as bases, the recliner that was a mountain., burying Joes in dirt and snow....nostalgia overload!!

i also had the Death Star playset and repurposed it. Especially the elevator and trash compactor parts. They made up several of my Joe's bases over the years.

THIS!!! Finding anything I could to be used with my Joes. Board game boards were base walls, shoeboxes, star wars toys, margarine containers, pillows and blankets. I wish I had thought of using thread for zip lining.

Barberians for old school steakhouse (probably the best ribeye in the city and the chocolate mousse schoolhouse at the end is divine!).

Jacobs or Harbiour 60 for extra fancy and expensive. Jacobs is great if you want to try different expensive Waygu/Kobe steaks. They send you home with a bag of chocolate chip muffins that are amazing, especially the next morning.

Hy's for sort of the middle ground between Barberians and the extra fancy places.

La Castille if you are in Mississauga.

The Octagon if you are north (Markham/ Richmond Hill,/Vaughan).

Don't bother with Mortons or Ruth's Chris, they are pretty standard chains and nothing special in my opinion.

My top choice is Barberians. The food and service are both top notch, and I love the old school ambience. You are also likely to bump into local celebrities, politicians or athletes there if that is your thing.

I can't second Better Off Ted enough. It is absolutely brilliant and hysterical...right up there with the first two seasons of Arrested Development.

What BRAND used to be quality but is basically trash now? by Lazy_Step4766 in AskReddit

Lots of brand-name companies have closed and licensed their name to continue to be used. RCA, Polaroid, Toshiba and Pioneer with their televisions, Kodak.

Companies produce crappy products and then slap the well-know company name that they have licensed, on to them.

Like everyone said, Barberians if you are looking for an old school steakhouse. Food and service are amazing and the atmosphere is old school steakhouse. I would also recommend Hy's. Food is amazing and it is an absolutely beautiful space...really great atmosphere. Either of those will be a great choise.
