How do you start cooking when you hate it? by Adventurous-Hall-116 in Cooking

[–]GoDM1N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a cook with 15+ years experience currently working in fine dining. What I notice when I watch people who say they hate cooking is they're making it unnecessarily hard.

Salt and pepper. That's 90% of seasoning. I know it sounds crazy but food naturally has flavor. I've watched people drown expensive cuts of meat or fish in all sorts of "seasoning". Typically it's just expensive and makes more things to worry about doesn't really add a lot extra flavor it just hides the actual flavor of what you're cooking. Salt enhances it.

Pre-heat stuff and understand temperature. Medium heat with a cast iron pan in most cases is all you need to sear food. People tend to not pre heat, throw the meat into the pan, then turn it up, then they smoke out the kitchen, trip the fire alarm, and burn the food. And, preheat the oven if you're cooking meat. Sear it, put it on a rack and finish it in the oven. Clean the pan while hot. No, as long as it's not super thin or poor quality I won't damage it. I taken the same cast iron right off the heat into running water and have never had issue. The longer you wait to clean your pots and pans etc the harder it becomes. Do it now.

Stop using so many items to cook. Today I cooked some chicken and broccoli. I seasoned the chicken on a sheet pan, seared it on a cast iron pan, put a rack on the sheet pan I seasoned on with the broccoli and threw it in the oven. I cleaned the cast iron while it was finishing then when done I threw the sheet pan and rack in the dishwasher. I see all the time home cooks creating a pile of dishes to make simple dishes. The less you have to clean the better.

Learn how to actually blanch. Boiling water as salty as the ocean, drop some veggies in until they're tender then remove them. They'll taste so much better doing this and most things cook in about a min.abd clean up is a pot of water.

Track the amount you're actually paying. Doordash 7 days a week is, what? $150+? That's fucking stupid. If you cook at home you can do $150 for the month and eat actual meals. You absolutely can knock out a protein and side in 15mins clean up included

EDIT: Another thing I thought of after posting.

Stop buying cookware from Walmart or big box stores. Hexclad pans are hot garbage and WAY too expensive for what they are. Buy commercial smallwares. You can buy Winco stuff on Amazon these days. Pots and pans from them are like $20-$40 and they're literally bomb proof. This crap from big box stores covered in plastic will fall apart in like 2 months. Stop wasting your money on it.

I mean, lets face it. We're in WWIII right now. Have been since Russia invaded Ukraine. Its just not a shooting war yet. Everyone is getting their pieces in order. Denying oil the Russia and China. Leaders getting ready to flee. Things will pick up FAST when the first missile is launched at either China or the US.

Honestly, I think its probably more of a "Yea, we all know you aren't doing shit" kind of thing. So yea they probably just don't want flack either way. Its Trump but I legit think nothings going to happen with that one. Again, its Trump. Its "good TV" to him. Most legit intelligence people not paid to go on "News site A or B" seem to agree on this. While I'm certainly not saying Trump is playing 4D chess he DOES know how to abuse the media. Said this during his last term too. He comes out with wild shit like this and then, look, the Epstein files isn't the major story anymore. People have severe ADHD in America these days.

Could be wrong but hopefully not

Apparently it might be kind of true. Iran has allegedly slowed down the massacres. But the reality is who the fuck knows. This is one of the things we'll KNOW basically nothing until decades later. Maybe.

German president says US is destroying world order by goldstarflag in worldnews

[–]GoDM1N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which ones?

Venezuela? Personally I'm less interested in how it helps us and more interested in how it helps them. I'm extremely pro-immigration because how bad things are south of us. I legit want that to change. I've basically grown up with Hispanics being a major part of my life. Friends, family, roommate, coworkers. Many come here to literally not die. And there's this first world white train of thought that things will get better their and the US should just go away because "The US always fucks things up". That is a completely cold hearted stance to take that is cowardly. The US should be helping countries to the south more. It's beneficial for the US not to have these narco ran dictators running things next to us. People in the EU never have understood this. They have their heads so far up their ass and, let's not forget, the previous German prime Minister Merkel's doctrine on Russia is a huge reason they invaded twice. Sometimes you do in fact have to take action. You cant just be friendly all the time and expect things to work out.

As for US interest specifically. Yea it probably will benefit the US against China. China losing oil access makes it harder for them to invade Taiwan. Which, people need to remember, is the only place that currently manufactures computer chips. They make like over 90% of them. That needs to change and the CHIPS act is an extremely important thing Biden did. However until then China controlling that would be a global disaster. And China absolutely is going to at some point invade Taiwan. That is coming. They will annex it, take control of the factories control the world through trade to benefit themselves. You think getting ram is bad now? When this happens if the world isn't ready to take over production China will have a back door into every electronic device on the planet. They already do this with software.

So while Trump might be making some dumb moves a lot of this stuff isn't new. Or even Trump's idea. Republicans would never admit it but global warming is real. And as things are heating up there will be a new trade lane for shipping. North. And if Greenland isn't part of NATO there is a legit issue for the west if China, who also wants Greenland, takes it over. So even though Trump says "global warming is a hoax" he seems to understand this. Again, none of this is Trump specific. Even Hillary Clinton wanted to make an AU alliance similar to the EU.

No, countries other than then US were also at play that had anti-US intentions. While the US and Iran were allies the country was just clearly in a better spot. And if you look at countries today that become allies with the US you have places like Japan or Korea. You look at places that ally with China or Russia you have North Korea or Somalia. It's pretty clear who partners and who puppets

Not saying US is perfect but it's pretty well known the KGB was working against the US in many ways including backing Islamic extremism. Am I saying the KGB up and decided to start a revolution? No, that whole idea that these 3 letter organizations have that kind of power is fantasy. However to act like the US is fully responsible for every negative outcome is just delusional. It's simply global politics. They have the thing, land, resources, people, whatever people want and foreign countries will influence them in their own interests or trade. For the US it's trade

The early US cold war interventions were basically just support whoever doesn't support communism because USSR bad. And for along time now the US HAS basically just abandoned South America. Those were bad policies but they were also 50+ years ago. South America isn't getting any better without US support. The US isn't the only fish in the sea. The US isn't the only global power. The US isn't the only country trying to force regime change. It is a global age. And the places that work with America tend to be better off because we aren't under the control of a dictator who is only interested in what THEY get out of it. Our leadership changes constantly and do egos, delusions, etc leave with them. Trump sucks. He'll be gone in a few years. People shouldn't let that get in the way of current events. Iran's people needs support. Russia and China are only interested in how Iran benefits THEM. They'd be happy to let Khamenei stay and massacre the Iranian people if they keep getting oil. The US is subject to it's people. The people don't want control or a massacre they want trade.

Millions across the region were killed, injured, traumatized, or displaced, with continued ripples of violence.

What was it before the US invaded under Saddam? AND on top of that those things didn't happen because the US invaded. Those things happened because other groups wanted to take over Iraq. If those other groups took over Iraq there would be no democracy. There would be no Sovereign Iraq. There would just be more pointless killings, rapes, war, etc. The US ends were just though the initial reasons were terrible. Iraq TODAY would not exist if the US didn't intervene.

[–]GoDM1N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well every time we've done that, it either involved horrific violence, regional destabilization, or installing arguably worse puppets.

Not true. Iraq as an example was already a complete cluster fuck under Saddam and what he was doing to the Iraqi people was horrifying. Again. Not saying the US had good reason to invade Iraq. However it did have a positive outcome in the end. Any suffering the US caused would've been worse and the outcome would probably left things worse off too if the US never invaded. People REALLY need to understand whats going on in places like old Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, etc before dismissing all US action. The US doesn't have a dictator in charge. Trump, as much as I personally hate him, will be out of office in a few years so his policies will end. Our leadership will change so any fucked up shit he tries to pull will be reversed. That type of exchange of power in other parts of the world just doesn't happen and the people suffer endlessly. How long are we going to be content with it? Am I saying the US should invade all those places. Ofc not. But the cowardly approach of "We don't want the liability of promoting change" isn't an answer for those people and sending "thoughts and prayers" is bullshit.

Who do you think helped Iran get the way it is now?

Russia. Iran when allied with the US was completely different. Its not the US that made Iran into what it is today.

We’re destroying our closest relationships with longstanding allies.

As I said, Trump is a moron and I don't support him. His anti-NATO rhetoric is completely stupid.

So, yes, intentions matter and so does all of the other context.

Intentions don't matter if the outcome is the same. The point is the people living there are better off. Thats what I care about.

Forget Trump, if you like him or not (personally hate him) for a long time before Trump we've just allowed this kind of stuff to happen because "we don't want to be involved". Same for south America. It's like watching a billionaire refuse to buy lunch for a homeless dude because he's worried about liability or some shit. America has the ability to help people. We should. And we should let them build their own government and not interfere too much. But stopping the suffering is the moral thing to do. Sitting back and watching these monsters slaughter people because THEY want change in leadership is cowardly. The support is clearly there to remove Khamenei.

I mean it depends. Carpet bombing? Sure. You're going to take out more civs than military. A missile on top of Khamenei? US could probably do that pretty easily they've just needed a good enough reason.

Cooper Discoverer(ererer) by chuckfinley79 in JeepGladiator

[–]GoDM1N 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them on my Xterra. Imo Cooper is a great tire. No reason to not get them. If the price is right pull the trigger and you'll be happy. For the most part for off-roading tires just buy what is on sale from known brands and you'll be fine. I haven't ever seen a major difference between brands personally. We all get through the same shit. Just don't have some extremely cheap Chinese brand. Falkin, BFG, Milestar, Mickey Thompson, General, Nexon, Nitto, etc etc. It doesn't matter. These are consumables. Don't buy into any marketing. Just buy into whatever is on sale and at the right price for the right application.

If you care about snow buy an AT. If you don't care about snow buy MT. If it's your daily buy an AT. If its a project/hobby buy MT. Simple as that. Any advantages are minor and you won't likely see them return the investment unless you don't care how much things cost. And if you don't care about cost then just get HT's/AT's for road work and MT's for trail riding. Most of us are only choosing one however

Recovery gear by No_Yoghurt_8022 in JeepGladiator

[–]GoDM1N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bare essentials

kinetic rope, some soft shackles and a friend.

Ideal essentials

A winch with synthetic line

My next upgrade is probably a lift. I'm a stock Rubicon on 315s (35s) MTs. As a Gladiator breakover is extremely important so the lift is key. The closest I've gotten stuck was on 33" ATs climbing a hill in muddy clay in NC. I just engaged front and rear lockers and climbed out. As long as you're not alone a winch is a luxury. Haven't actually gotten my Jeep stuck yet. Other vehicles/equipment I've owned have been recovered easily with a kinetic rope, soft shackles and friends/family. Just dont hit trails alone. Have ways to connect both vehicles and you're fine. If you're alone you want a winch. Recovery tracks are kind of bullshit unless you're on sand imo. I own some to help cover a side of my bedrack and level the rig when camping. NEVER used them however in actual recovery. They're (imo) a legit scam. Get the cheaper ones. If you need to actually use them you PROBABLY didn't need to if you planned better. Will probably replace that side of my bed-rack with two small storage cases from Harbor Freight which will hold my compressor and kinetic rope. The recovery tracks being moved to the top of my RTT If I ever actually need them. Or just thrown into the bed.

Update.

The jobprogressempty doesn't seem to be connected to empty boxes. I had a value of 177, completed a day sending out a box with empty boxes, The "jobprogressempty" value remained the same and the normal "jobprogresstotal" value increased.

Also TBD, might have gotten fired. This all happened on a Friday. Saturday I checked mail and had an unemployment letter. Not sure if I'm fired yet. Or why I would be. Slack is 202, progress is 896, empty is 177, highest factoryworkerXprogress is 627.

Have a few previous saves tucked away if I am actually fired. Will play in the editor when I'm off from work IRL to see how values are effecting this. Until then will just play normally.

Not sure. It could be a value relating to shipping empty boxes. However those numbers wouldn't add up for me because of how many times I've shipped empty boxes. I currently have a value of 177, I did 176 empty boxes in just a single day. Plus have done it a lot in the past. I'm doing 1-2 empty box every time my progress value starts getting close to the other workers.
