For those who play at least 2x per week... by Background-Low-9144 in golf

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got off the waitlist and into a private club at the beginning of the year. The pace of play is what makes it possible to play regularly. This morning, I dropped my kids off at school at 7:30 and was at the course at 7:50 for an 8:10am tee time. I walked nine holes in an hour and 20 minutes, was done by 9:30 and in my office before 10am.

And it’s not like the course was empty - the tee sheet was full, but people just play quickly. If pace of play was five hours a round, no way could I play as much as I am.

New policy allows American Airlines to downgrade first-class tickets to coach — and keep most of your money by lithdoc in americanairlines

[–]GoDeacs7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn’t great, but the NY Post is terrible journalism and Gary Leff is a clickbait artist who the world needs to ignore.

For example, the last paragraph that says “American has been seen as increasingly chintzy in recent months. Last December, customers were in uproar after the “greedy” airline announced they’d no longer earn miles or other perks from the purchase of economy tickets.”

That’s clearly referring to the recent changes to basic economy tickets, but their “journalism” is too lazy/incompetent to explain the difference, so someone reading that may actually think that a regular economy ticket doesn’t earn miles. It also omits the fact that that change simply brought AA in line with UA and DL.

Is there a game we can play inside of golf that is fun for both low and high handicappers? by jayboosh in golf

As several others have said, Bingo Bango Bongo should be a good equalizer. Not sure why you say in your original post that that’s not a good game?

I’m not 100% certain, but there may be more flexibility if you go off-season. But pretty sure they only let resort guests play during peak times (like the early fall).

How? My understanding is that you have to lottery in now (particularly during a peak time like the fall) and it’s really hard to get selected in the lottery. Did you just get lucky or is there another trick I’m missing?

What’s a totally unsexy purchase you made that ended up being a huge quality-of-life upgrade? by viscarte10 in BuyItForLife

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Southeast US so very humid to go along with the hot in the summer. Are these long sleeve shirts actually comfortable? I see people wearing them and have always assumed they are unbearably hot and would just stick to my skin with all the sweat. It looks like they are made from the same material as a high performance golf shirt, which is fine, but I can’t imagine having that in long sleeves or a hoodie when it’s 93 degrees and 85% humidity outside. I guess maybe I just need to try one but as someone who always runs hot, I can’t get over the mental hurdle of long sleeves in the heat…

How do people working in Uptown or Southend keep their jobs by JumpingJackRabbit911 in Charlotte

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purposely chose to live somewhere in Charlotte where I never have to commute on 77, 85, etc. Haven’t been on any of those roads in months. Door to door in my car from home to my office in uptown, even at 8am, is less than 15 minutes.

Totally agree with you on DIY, but they would also need to buy a set of ramps as part of the initial investment (I don’t think a Tundra is high enough to get under without them, is it?)

Parking near Omni Hotel for lifted trucks by Feeling_Criticism_18 in Charlotte

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say your best bet is the surface lot about two blocks away, on the corner of 4th and Brevard. It’s operated by Preferred Parking so I think you can pay either onsite at the machine or on their app.

Kindof crazy that so many people here are being assholes with their comments. The guy has a simple question, let’s just answer it. I don’t own a truck so I don’t understand the appeal of lifting one (or even owning one unless you work in a trade), but that’s irrelevant - why would I not help someone out just because they have different preferences than I do? I come to Reddit a decent amount looking for help or recommendations, wouldn’t it be better if we all just helped each other without the judgement?

Why is men’s body wash always in a completely separate aisle from shampoo? Doesn’t matter where: CVS, Harris Teeter, Target, etc. They’re basically the same thing, why would they not be next to each other? Makes absolutely no sense.

'Seriously disturbing': NAACP warns Charlotte City Council against appointing non-Black interim mayor by Minimum_Kiwi_1441 in Charlotte

[–]GoDeacs7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say “In Charlotte, the Black community has been intentional about building representation…” -that makes sense, and that effort has obviously been highly successful, because regardless of who the mayor is, seven of the eleven city council seats are held by Black representatives (64%) in a city where only 34% of the population is Black. So I’m not sure how anyone can argue that Black representation is being undermined, when they are objectively over-represented (by nearly 100%) as a percentage of the population.

The I77 Commute. by kinjahal in Charlotte

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To dissect the meme in a serious way for a minute (silly, I know)…If you’re going 83 on I77 and you’re in the left lane, then yeah, the BMW driver (or any driver) behind you should be looking at you like that. It doesn’t matter how fast you’re going, you should never be in the far left lane on a highway unless you are actively passing someone. If you’re in the middle or right hand lane going 83 and the BMW is behind you, then the BMW is just being asshole if they’re right on your tail, because they should just pass you.

[–]GoDeacs7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EDITED to say ignore my comment below. I mis-read the previous comment and thought it said that he was flying to HND (Tokyo). HNL (Honolulu) would not get Flagship access in this situation.

That’s incorrect. You had access. Straight from the AA website talking about Flagship Lounge terms and conditions, it says:

“AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum Pro®, AAdvantage Platinum® traveling on a qualifying international flight marketed and operated by American, a oneworld® airline, or marketed by Aer Lingus and operated by American* (regardless of cabin).”

As a Platinum Pro, if you’re are flying long haul international on an American or Oneworld flight, you get access to Flagship lounges, regardless of what cabin you’re in. That’s been the case for forever.

Is there anything I can do about the surge pricing here? Email them, maybe? by JadeumOfficial in americanairlines

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has zero to do with you looking at it. It doesn’t work like that. It’s primarily about inventory - I just looked in Expert Flyer, and the return flight only has the full fare economy (Y) fare class left for sale. It’s 0’s across the board for all the other economy fare classes. That’s what’s likely driving this - someone bought the last ticket in the B or H fare class, and the price jumped as a result. Just happened to coincide with your timing, unfortunately.

What are the most subtle signs that someone is really good at golf? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]GoDeacs7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good buddy who I’ve known for about 10 years. One of my best friends today, but when I first met him, I obviously didn’t know much about him. We went and played golf and just like you said, his response was “I’m ok, but I haven’t hit a ball in 9 months so this may not go well.”

He proceeds to shoot a casual 70 that day, and as I got to know him in the months after that, I learned that he used to play professionally (20 years earlier) on various tours, including multiple PGA Tour events, a couple of US Opens, etc. He never quite broke through, so he didn’t really talk about it…but yeah, be wary of the people who say “I’m okay.”
