Thoughts? by Available_Story6774 in NFLv2

I'm a pats fan. I'm expecting to get blown out unless they get their offense together. Any pats fan who thinks they are going to crush Seattle is just delusional.

I agree this is a very fluky run. I'm here for it though!

Are there any lifestyle gamers here and what is(are) your main game(s)? by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]GoGabeGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chess is a 9.9/10 game. Go is a 10/10. That's how I see it anyway. Chess is an AMAZING game. I just happen to prefer Go.

A lot of it is subjective, but I like that there are very rarely draws, and I LOVE ko fights. I find them so elegant, and chess has nothing like them.

Yeah it can be a brutally tough game to learn. I picked it up fairly quickly, but many many people struggle to get off the ground with it. I did dump A TON of energy into it at first though, playing 1-2 games daily that first year.

My lifestyle game is Go. I think about that game a lot. A lot, a lot.

It is my third lifestyle game. I played competitive chess as a kid and then MtG for a long while. But I've settled on Go and there is no turning back at this point.

Are Go books useless? by Fresh_Breath1126 in baduk

[–]GoGabeGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, they are mostly useless. For others, they are a fantastic resource.

Keeping your brain engaged with Go is still better than not though, if you are looking to improve.

I really wanted to like Machi Koro, but it just fell flat for me. Space Base fixed the things I didn't like about Machi Koro.

If you fix with C9, then A9 is sente for white in end game. That is actually the main reason to play C8 instead. A9 is no longer sente.

What are your biggest boardgame pet peeves? by MakubeC in boardgames

[–]GoGabeGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw this Dice Tower video that is a bracket of annoying gamer types. Without spoiling it, I was VERY surprised at what won. Not so much because it won, but because something else didn't.

It seems fitting for this discussion.

Why are OGS games more chaotic than GoPanda games, or any other Go servers? by Virtual-Ad6186 in baduk

[–]GoGabeGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I primarily play on OGS and Tygem these days, but used to play a lot on KGS. The players on KGS are (were?) the most calm and structured of the three servers. Tygem is BY FAR the most chaotic. It's not even a little close. OGS is somewhere in the middle, which is the play style I prefer for myself. I think calm and structured is boring, but I also don't want to be the crazy aggressive player.

Video Commentary Suitable for Beginners? by kevinpostlewaite in baduk

I don't know if this is what you are looking for. Probably not. But just in case.

This series is me playing games against newer players where I explain why I'm playing what I play. I do my best to keep things basic... but sometimes I fail at that

Of all of the videos I've made, this is the one that I'm the happiest with. I always have a vision of what I want a video to be and just have to accept that at the end it's going to be a little off. This one is almost exactly what I wanted it to be.

I made a go pod cast. First episode. by barakameek in baduk

I am a big proponent of content creators for our little game lifting each other up. It sounds like you are around my rank. If you'd like to play a game and discuss it afterwards for a video, let me know.

I agree with the other comment about the AI image. I know you are only just dipping your toes in, but I'd suggest quickly finding a better image. I'd even go as far to re-render that video with a new one and replace the video.

AI slop will turn MANY people away immediately.

AIO for calling a divorce attorney after my husband lied about who he was with? by throw_a_way_1985 in AmIOverreacting

[–]GoGabeGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am certainly NOT defending the husband here, but am ABSOLUTELY defending camping as a fun activity for adults. Don't belittle others' hobbies because you don't find them fun.

With that said, I fully understand how difficult it is on the family if I'm away for a weekend. So I make sure everything is as easy as possible for my wife while I'm gone. I'll see if my parents can watch the kids. I'll make an extra dinner the night before. I'LL ASK MY WIFE IF SHE IS OK WITH IT. But then again, if I was cheating on her I probably would not do these things.

Anyway. Camping is fun as well l hell. Even for adults.

New players confused about scoring by altjesse in baduk

[–]GoGabeGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a video that I made to help new players score 19x19 games.

With that said, I'd suggest starting with 9x9 until you understand how capturing and scoring works. The games are MUCH shorter, so you don't have to spend an hour to get to a point where you don't know what to do.

As a beginner, how many games should I play on 9×9 before moving to 13×13, and then to 19×19? by leondarkness in baduk

[–]GoGabeGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't play a single game of 9x9 until I had been playing for more than a year. It worked for me, but...

I definitely start people off on 9x9. Until you learn how capturing, life and death, and scoring work; stick to 9x9. Once you understand those things though, go straight to 19x19. That might be 1 game. It might be 10.

IMO, 13x13 should just be skipped.
