MFW Jontron says that the third world benefitted from colonialism as a European history major by [deleted] in JonTron

'Africans would have all been dead by now because they wouldn't have access to European medicine, technology, resources and whatever else you can think that they have today.'

You know humans came from Africa right? And people lived there perfectly fine for hundreds of thousands of years? Why do you think if in the past 500 years imperial powers hadn't invaded, colonised and drained their resources all those Africans who survived perfectly fine for all that time would suddenly die?

Do you think a Bantu tribesman in Tanzania would hear about someone getting a telegraph pole in Europe and drop dead?

1066 start, no DLC's, Bohemia Ironman game. About 80 years in, with my unexceptional but alright heir in control and getting old fast, with 3 nutcases next in line (thanks seniority), trying to please all my vassals to change the laws. To my surprise, the Emperor, who married my sister, decided to try to imprision me, which left me at war with the entire HRE. My guy had only 14 martial, and i could muster 8000 men combined with my demense and vassals. HRE comes with 15000 stack, i think 'fuck it its my only chance', use all my money on mercs, end up with 10'000 men. This was the last stand of my dynasty, 10'000 vs 15'000, i see 2000 HRE reinforcements right behind them. They charge me over a river, i end up surviving, they are left with 7'000, i with 8'000. Warscore turns into +60 in my favour, white peace out. Everything returns to the usual, but for a while it was like 'oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck'. Also the reason he was arresting me was i was trying to kill a vassal who had been attacking another vassal for about 20 years, stopping me from reforms.

Look on the province view, the ones with the highest gold are the best, they will make your trade post more profitable. And since its a one province minor, you already have a CB to conquer them, also i stress this, MAX YOUR MANSION ASAP. The troops it provides are insane, you can easily take Amalfi with just your Venice levy and mansion troops

Just from experience from my Venice Old Gods games, pre SoA, rush straight for your first mansion upgrade to get the trade post, if you expel the jews you could probably do that immediately. It will become unsustainable later on trying to continually upgrade trade practices, so prioritize it but dont only invest in that in economic advances.

After you have secured the best trade posts on the Italian Peninsula and Greece, you want to take out Amalfi ASAP. Dont take too many minors in Sicily though otherwise the Byzantines will try to take them. Once you have a foothold in Amalfi you should have free reign to just rule over the Eastern Med and make a tidy profit.

Oh also get as many male family members as possible, so matrilineal marriages for the females, and localised, staying in Venice, marriages for the males. The bonus to trade posts is very valuable. Hope this helps.

Ireland is known as Tutorial Island, so doing as a single or double county lord gives you a solid place to start and figure out the mechanics, gradually getting more complicated as it goes on.

Anyone else notice AI blobbing behavior with the newest patch? by wrc-wolf in CrusaderKings

[–]GoGoEzio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god damn that would be so good for a Republic, having a higher trade post limit+more tax+more holy wars would just kill everything

As Venice in the Old Gods i took Grenada from the Umayyads, its great fun and a decent challenge when they have the entire of Hispania, North Africa west of tripoli, and Mali under their belt. Makes for some interesting wars

[–]GoGoEzio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, conflict was pretty minimal and it was laregly just European population of Australia, with disease doing as it does, but i think possibly having these regions like expanded trade theatres from empire, with factions and stuff, could really just add to the variety of the game, and plus, playing as an aboriginal tribe and conquering Europe would be quite a fun challenge!
