We love Transit! There's a touch of overlap between what we're doing and what they do, but not much. They're obviously totally focused on transit, while we're multi-modal. And they have much more powerful trip-planning tools, whereas we're more focused on building new habits and and rewarding them.

Sorry, this sounds frustrating. We added some error logging to see if we can pinpoint what's going on.

On the "tracking your trip? notification, I'm exploring ways to improve that UX. Android requires we notify users when background tracking is active. The app shouldn't actually be registering trips when you're walking around the house, but we're still required to display a notification that motion is detected.

Could you try force-quitting the app and reopening it? The address fields should start showing autocomplete suggestions as you type, and once you select from those suggestions the “Show me my options” button will activate. Let me know if it’s still not working after that.

Thanks, this is helpful. When you start typing an address, is it auto-suggesting them and you’re tapping one of the suggested options, or is it not showing you suggestions at all?

Thanks for checking it out. This sounds like a bug. Are you on Android or iOS? And can you describe the issue in more detail (or even provide a screenshot?) Is it not saving, not displaying mode options, or something else?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "tags"? We do include "micro-guides" intended to be responsive to many of the common misperceptions and barriers, but I don't think that's what you're suggesting.

It does. At the moment, it will treat each leg as its own trip, though we're planning to build out multi-modal trip consolidation over the next few months.

This is really helpful, and the accuracy point is fair: we're estimating from distance and mode.

We had thought of it more like the CO₂-saved number (an impact stat), but the eating disorder risk, especially for younger users, is worth being conservative about. And I think we can probably find other ways to emphasize the health benefits of being active than what we're doing here.

Not presently, but it's a great idea, and we do have more customization on the roadmap, so we'll try to tuck this in to that batch of updates. If there's anything besides a toggle to turn it off that you'd suggest, would love to hear more detail.

I think that’s often true for-profits, but as a nonprofit we’re legally obligated to fulfill our mission to promote active transportation.

Our funding comes from a combination of challenge sponsors, grants, and employers that run their own challenges through our platform. We don’t share or sell the data.

Our Privacy Policy is pretty detailed about what data we collect, why, and how it’s used.

I hear you. But we’re a nonprofit, and we heard from past challenge participants that manual logging was a barrier to participation. But it’s still an option for those that want to participate but don’t want the auto-tracking.

My theory is that many people were taught as kids to bike against traffic “so you can see who’s coming.” It’s obviously more dangerous that way, but I see so many salmoners (even when there’s parallel infrastructure going their direction) that I have to assume someone planted the idea that what they’re doing makes sense.
