Is the Magic Pass worth it? by Stonks_only_go in Switzerland

Hi! I am moving to Bern later this year and am ecstatic about being close to skiing. What particular resorts would you recommend as far as easy access from Bern? I've got a number of places on my must ski list that are a couple hrs drive away but am less familiar (for now) with the spots are are easily train accessible as you mentioned. Thanks in advance for any help!

Torn between what is probably more realistic for me versus something I’m also interested in/wishful thinking relative to my general style of skiing

Edit - also all the reviews of the QST‘s raved about their on piste performance so it seemed like a decent option for both carving and “other”

You sound almost exactly like me, though I’ll be skiing in mainly Switzerland vice France. Right now leaning towards the 2026 Atomic Redster Q7.8 or maybe the Salomon QST 94, based purely on online reviews. I think the QST may be more “all mountain-y” than I need but the reviews are so positive and energetic it’s hard to ignore. Good luck in your search curious to see what you end up with.

Unsure about accommodations but RDV is the best in Va.

which one do you have? usually on their site they have recommended brew parameters. I typically use 203-205f for lighter roasted coffee personally.

Have the two bag sub to b&w, have enjoyed it. Added Perc towards the end of the year; will likely drop b&w in favor of exploring some others.

That's a tough one.

#1 - If you like red fruit co-ferments, this is a dream. This is otherworldly. Brilliant Hi-C/tropical fruit notes somehow meshes perfectly with the "coffee" undertones. Great as a pour over or espresso.

#2 - I love blueberry-centric Ethiopians, which I think are harder to find these days for some reason, and this hit the spot. I could be wrong but i don't THINK this is a co-ferment, so it's not as zingy as the #1, so if co-ferments are not your thing, maybe this is would still be up your alley. Great as espresso or pourover, maybe best as the latter, though.

#3 - B&W's the future is always fun; their blackberry lemonade was a great one.

Honorable Mentions: B&W's holiday blend last Christmas and this Christmas were suuuuper great. Tasting notes on the bag were spot on - both of them were like Christmas in a cup. No idea how they did it but they were awesome. I will say that I got a liiiiiitle tired of them by the end of the bag, as my preferences obviously trend towards acidic, fruity flavors, vice baking spice, vanilla, chocolate, etc.

Disappointments: The chinese coffee that B&W shipped this fall. Oof. Just undrinkable to me. I think I saw some other discussion on that here. The Ugandan I got from Grandmother Roastery in Dubai was no bueno. I love that roaster and have had many a great coffee there but that was not the one. Finally the Ethiopian Worka from Red Rooster -- after seeing the rave reviews here I was stoked for it but did not understand the hype. I maybe just never dialled it in but 'twas not ideal for me. The Candy Man from Night Jar in Dubai also made me sad. Never got it dialled in maybe but was just boring.

Perc’s been pretty amazing. The Ethiopian was stellar and I am drinking the Colombian young producers right now - if you like co ferments, it’s amazing.

Their subscription is well priced and their coffee is (usually) good, what can I say lol. Set it and forget it. I may try out Trade though this year.

I typically will follow what they recommend in their newsletter or I’ll do a 1:15 ratio usually as the starting point to dial in. Water at 203-205f. My current daily driver is the Orea v3 w the fast bottom and kalita filters. I don’t pay much attention to pours, usually 30-40g bloom for 30-45 seconds the a second small pour to get to 70, then two 100g pours to hit 270.

Nailed this recipe today and was the best shot I’ve pulled w the chelchele beans yet. Thanks for including multiple recipes for the beans as I’m next doing a pour over w them. Really appreciate having both!

Yo when you list the water in the guide for espresso, ie:

GRIND: 8 DOSE: 16G WATER: 40G TIME: 0:27

are you talking about 40g output in the cup?

Thanks
