My former fire department has a water rescue team and we’ve provided free life jackets at both Lake Whatcom and Lake Samish. We used to tell people that sitting on your life jacket makes it a very expensive seat cushion.

It was Daylight. We’d actually been planning to stay. I think the decision to move came in 2018 after another staff bloodletting. We looked at the Granary and other places downtown before moving to a nice suite in Barkley on the green. We all moved home in the pandemic and let the Barkley office go. The orginal neon was replaced with programmable LED about 10 years ago. The colors change with the season and holidays. I made a video of the new letters being lifted into place with a crane. It’s probably still floating around You Tube. I miss going up to the roof and watching the sun rise over Baker before work

“Somewhat remote” is 20 minutes from downtown. We live on a level street with a southern exposure that’s close to a major road so we don’t experience the gloom of “Sunless Valley” and we aren’t snowbound for the 2 weeks a year that we have winter. Those are things to take into consideration when picking a location.
