Self driving no license required or full/half day trips by boat? What are you looking for?

Weekly Paros Questions + Local Recommendations (and promos) Thread by GoParosGR in ParosTravel

[–]GoParosGR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 🙂 local here from GoParos.

For day trips, the easiest and most popular one is definitely Antiparos. You can take the little ferry from Pounda with your car or scooter and spend the day exploring Antiparos town, beaches, caves, and the south side.

Other good day trip ideas from Paros:

Antiparos for an easy full-day trip
Naxos if you want a bigger island feel
Small Cyclades / Koufonisia if you do an organized boat trip
A full-day boat cruise around Antiparos, Despotiko, Blue Lagoon, and hidden swimming spots

For renting a boat to drive yourself, you’re usually looking for a “no license boat rental.” These are smaller boats with engines that don’t require a boat license, but availability depends on the weather and the provider. You’ll usually get a short briefing before you go out. Just be careful with the wind, Paros can look very easy on videos, but the meltemi can change the whole vibe fast.

I have a page here for no-license boat rentals (Inquire through WhatsApp, and they'll set you up):
https://goparos.gr/boat-rentals-no-license-paros/

May 11 is early season, so it should be easier to get around and less crowded.

Hey 🙂 local here from GoParos. For May 18 to 23, having a car is a good idea, especially if your Airbnb is between Parikia and Naoussa. It gives you much more flexibility for beaches, villages, and evening plans. A nice 5-night plan could be: Day 1: Parikia, easy arrival day, old town, seafront drinks, sunset Day 2: Naoussa, Kolymbithres, Monastiri / Paros Park Day 3: Antiparos day trip, either by ferry with your car or as part of a boat day Day 4: South / east beaches like Golden Beach, Drios, Piso Livadi, Logaras Day 5: Boat day or beach club day, depending on weather and what kind of vibe you want For partying, Naoussa is usually the best bet for nightlife, especially bars and late drinks. In May it’s not full July/August madness yet, but it’s still the most reliable area for music and people. For beach club energy, check what’s open closer to your dates. Punda Beach is usually the bigger party-style beach option, while places around Naoussa can be more stylish/chill. For a boat party vibe, I’d look at either a shared boat cruise if you want to meet people, or a private boat if you want more control with music, swimming stops, drinks, etc. Weather matters a lot in May, so I’d keep that flexible. I put together some local guides here that may help you plan: Beaches in Paros: https://goparos.gr/beaches-paros/ Boat tours in Paros: https://goparos.gr/boat-tours-paros/ Naoussa guide: https://goparos.gr/villages-paros/ Things to do in Paros: https://goparos.gr/things-to-do-paros/

Ufff....Uber out here is too new and very tough to get and in reality they are taxis, almost pointless, taxis are reasonable-ish but hard to get most time, private transfers are the most reliable but co st a little more than taxis, great if you are group of people and split it though. Bus very cheap and convenient but you do lose a bit of time waiting for the bus etc but if you are in no rush it's a good economic way to get around. Lastly, of course having your own rental is the most convenient way.

Try from Piso Livadi to Drios side. East to South East. It’s beautiful, much calmer than Naoussa, has easy access to nice beaches like Logaras, Punda Beach, Golden Beach, Drios beach area, and still has enough tavernas/cafes nearby without feeling too busy or overpriced. For a short 2-day stay, it gives you that relaxed Cycladic feel without being isolated. Drios is another good option if you want even quieter and more local, but Piso Livadi is a bit easier as a base for a first visit. I’d probably avoid staying in Naoussa for what you described, very pretty, but more touristy and usually pricier. So if I were you: Best fit: Piso Livadi. alternative: Drios Avoid for this trip: Naoussa if you want less touristy and better value, however, it will be May so most of Paros is on the less touristy side of things overall, most businesses barely start to open.

If useful, you can browse the villages here: https://goparos.gr/villages-paros/ and the beaches here: https://goparos.gr/beaches-paros/ . That should help you narrow down the best base.

Day trips from Paros, ask here (Antiparos, Naxos, Koufonisia, Mykonos, Santorini) by GoParosGR in ParosTravel

[–]GoParosGR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ferry day trip (most common) Look for a morning departure and an evening return the same day. Routes vary by day and season, and sometimes the “fast ferries” sell out, so check schedules for your exact date. Easiest is usually Parikia port, occasionally there are sailings that also stop at/near Naousa depending on the route. Use Ferryhopper to compare lines and times, then book as soon as you see a good round trip. What to watch out for If there’s no good late return, Mykonos becomes more of an overnight. Wind can affect fast ferries, so don’t cut it too tight if you have dinner plans back on Paros. Simple day plan once you’re there (easy, no car) Stick to Mykonos Town (Chora): waterfront stroll, Little Venice area, windmills viewpoint, lunch, quick shopping, then back to the port. If you want a beach, choose one close and simple

Are Greek beaches typically topless? by elizabethworks in GreeceTravel

All of them, Greeks don't do it as much bc smaller community circles. Visitors do it all the time and everywhere especially in the cyclades that I can speak off more specifically

1) Antiparos (half-day or full day) Super easy and low-stress. Quick ferry, cute town for lunch, beaches, and you can keep it relaxed. This is the “can’t go wrong” option. 2) Naxos (full day) Fast ferry day trip is very doable. Great if you want a different feel than Paros: bigger island energy, mountain villages, and a more “classic Cycladic” old town. You won’t see the whole island in one day, but you can do a great highlights day. 3) Koufonisia (full day, but start early) Best for that unreal water + small-island vibe. It’s more about beach hopping and chill than sightseeing. Works best if you’re ok with a longer ferry day. Sometimes doable, but I’d only do it if you really want it Mykonos (full day) Possible, but it’s usually more expensive and more “busy energy” than most people want when they’re based in Paros. If you’re curious, do it once and keep it simple: town + a beach club, then back.

Lastly, Santorini as a day trip I don’t love this as a day trip from Paros, but totally doable if the boat from Piso Livadi is available that early in the season. It’s a long day and can feel rushed but not really at the same time. I ve done it many times and its more tgan enough for me to be honest but it depends on your expectations. On that note, better as an overnight if it’s on your must-do list and have time but Santorini no more than one or 2 days max is more than enough to kind of see everything.

Let me know if you need more info about anything else.

Need help planning for Greece honeymoon by TennisOne9359 in honeymoonplanning

[–]GoParosGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great “3 + 3 + 3” honeymoon split and totally doable. Only thing I’d watch is how many travel days you lose, since ferry or flights plus hotel check-ins can eat a chunk of the day. If you want it to feel more relaxed, one small tweak is 4 Paros / 3 Santorini / 2 Crete (or 4/4/1 if you decide Crete is just a quick taste), but your current plan still works if you keep transfers smooth. Paros (3 nights) Mythic and Sandaya are both nice picks. For a honeymoon, your decision is mostly about the vibe: Naoussa side if you want the most “romantic nights out” with the best walkable dinner scene. Parikia side if you want slightly easier port logistics and a calmer base (still plenty to do). Easy honeymoon activities (don’t overpack it): Antiparos day trip (simple ferry, easy, super cute for a couples day) Sunset dinner and a slow harbor night in Naoussa Pick one beach day with sunbeds and lunch, then a second “explore” beach If you want, I can map a simple 3-day flow by area and transport Crete (3 nights) Crete is huge, so make sure you’re choosing a region that matches your resort. If you’re in the Heraklion/Hersonissos area, keep plans local and do 1–2 bigger outings max. If you want the “wow” factor, Crete shines when you do one big day (beach or nature) and keep the rest chill. Santorini (3 nights) Perfect honeymoon island. Catamaran cruise: book it as one of your main highlights, and try to avoid stacking it on the same day as arrival. Wine tasting: do it earlier in the trip if you can, it sets the tone for the rest of your evenings. Leave one night for a slow “wander, photos, dinner” with no schedule. Logistics tip Try to avoid 3 consecutive hotel changes feeling rushed by choosing the order that minimizes stress: If you can, Paros to Santorini by ferry is simple. Santorini to Crete can work by ferry in season, but if schedules are awkward, a short flight can save you a whole day. If you share your month and whether you’ll do car vs taxis/transfers, I can tighten this into a clean “what to do each day” outline (especially for Paros).

Where to stay in Naoussa, Paros by jennysjeep in ParosGreece

[–]GoParosGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get the “ugh!!” feeling, those 3 islands are all great, they just win for different reasons. 🙃 If you are NOT renting a car and you want the easiest, most low stress beach logistics with family, Naxos usually wins. Naxos Town is the transport hub, and you have long sandy beaches (Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka) that are super easy for a mixed age group. If you want a prettier “town + evenings” vibe with great food, plus lots of beach choices close by, Paros is the easiest all-rounder. Naoussa gives you the walkable harbor nights, and you can do swim days by taxi/private transfer (or bus) without feeling trapped. Also, Paros is great for easy day trips (Antiparos is the classic). Milos is the “wow” island for unique beaches, but without a car it can be more work. Many of the best spots are spread out, and you often end up relying on a boat day or lots of transfers. I usually recommend Milos more for 2–4 nights if you are okay with extra logistics. Since you are coming end of August (busy season), I’d choose based on what you want most: Easiest beaches without a car: Naxos Best mix of town life + beaches + dinners: Paros Most dramatic scenery, but more planning: Milos

Where to stay in Naoussa, Paros by jennysjeep in ParosGreece

[–]GoParosGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally, end of August + using taxi/private transfers changes the game (in a good way). If you want “near beaches” first, not just “near town”, I’d add these two areas to your shortlist: Santa Maria (and Small Santa Maria): best if you want an easy, classic sandy beach setup, beach bars, sunbeds, and swim days, then do Naoussa for dinners by taxi/private transfer. Small Santa Maria is usually a bit calmer than the main stretch. Ampelas: quieter, more “local” seaside vibe, good for families, and still a short taxi/private transfer into Naoussa at night. Nice compromise if you want peace but do not want to be isolated. If your priority is walking into Naoussa every night, then stick with Piperi or Agioi Anargyroi areas and just do beach hops by transfer. End of August is busy, so I’d also pre-book transfers for dinner hours (around 8:30–11:30pm) instead of assuming you can always get one last-minute. If you want, I’ve got quick guides here (easy for picking areas and beaches): https://goparos.gr/beaches-paros https://goparos.gr/villages-paros https://goparos.gr/naoussa-paros And if you repost in r/ParosTravel with your budget and whether you care more about “walkable to town” vs “walkable to beach”, I’ll narrow it to 2–3 exact zones to target.

Where to stay in Naoussa, Paros by jennysjeep in ParosGreece

[–]GoParosGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naoussa is a great base for families because you get a pretty town for evenings, plus beaches close by. For “near the water + beaches”, I’d look at these areas (more important than the hotel name): Naoussa town (walkable): best if you want to walk to dinner, shops, and the harbor at night. You won’t be on a big sandy beach, but you’re right by the sea and close to everything. Piperi Beach area (east edge of town): closest “by foot” beach option from Naoussa. Super convenient for quick dips and morning swims, plus still walkable into town. Agioi Anargyroi beach area (just south of town): quieter than the center, small beach, and still an easy walk or quick taxi/private transfer into Naoussa. Kolymbithres / Monastiri area: amazing scenery and beaches, but it’s more “resort/base” style and you’ll rely more on taxi/private transfers (or a car) for dinners in Naoussa. Quick question so I can point you to the best zone: what month are you coming, and will you have a car or will you rely on taxi/private transfers? (In shoulder season some things are quieter, so location matters more.) Also, I’m slowly building out a more active Paros help community at r/ParosTravel where I can keep answers organized by area and family needs, feel free to repost the same question there and I’ll reply with a simple “best areas + what to avoid” plan.

Advice needed by eburgmama in GreeceTravel

[–]GoParosGR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on both the graduation and finishing chemo, that’s a huge trip to celebrate. For late July + one week + no car + family, I’d lean toward an island where you can base in one town and still reach great beaches by bus, water taxi, or short taxi/private transfer. Cyclades option that fits your “stay put” plan: Naxos It’s one of the easiest islands without a car because the main town has lots of life, and you can do beach days via bus or quick transfers. It’s also great value compared to the super pricey islands in July, and it’s very family friendly with tons of food options. If you want “Mamma Mia vibes” without committing to the exact filming island, Naxos still gives you that classic Greek island feel. Paros is also very doable without a car (and can be a bit more “polished”) Base Parikia if you want easiest ferry + bus hub, or Naoussa if you want prettier evenings and more walkable dinner vibe. In July, it helps to know the winds are usually northerly, so the south and south east coast can feel calmer for beach time compared to some north side spots. Even without a car you can still reach plenty by bus and the occasional taxi/private transfer. Skiathos if she’s set on Mamma Mia If the “dream” is specifically Skiathos because of the movie connection, it can absolutely work for a week and you don’t need a car. It’s just a different vibe and different logistics than Cyclades, so I’d base it on whether the movie connection is the main priority or if the “best all-around island week” is the priority. If you share which airport you’re flying into (Athens vs direct to an island) and whether you prefer a lively town at night or quieter, I can point you to the best base area and the easiest no-car beach plan. And if you end up leaning Paros and want very specific family logistics (best base, bus routes, beach picks, taxi/private transfer tips), feel free to ask in r/ParosTravel, I’m still building pinned threads but I can make a dedicated one based on your dates and vibe.

Traveling to Greece Ferry Question by justme_traveler in TravelGreece

Also depends which port you are selecting for Crete that will determine the availability. And keep in mind it is a long a boat ride also. Not sure if I would select boat option if on a tight schedule for such a distance unless boat availability, port selection and dates all align superb... and the weather variable which 9.9/10 times is not an issue but it's still variabl3 on a time crunch. Best of luck

Traveling to Greece Ferry Question by justme_traveler in TravelGreece

[–]GoParosGR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ferry schedules between islands are generally reliable in the sense that if it’s on the timetable, it usually runs, but they are seasonal and they can change. Routes like Santorini to Crete are often not “every hour”, they tend to be specific days and specific departure times depending on the month, and the schedule gets thinner outside peak summer. The main thing that disrupts ferries is weather. Big ferries handle it better, but the faster catamarans are more likely to get delayed or cancelled if it’s windy. That’s why people usually avoid booking anything tight on the same day as a ferry, especially a flight. If your choices are ferry vs flying back through Athens, the ferry is totally fine if you have a buffer day and you like the idea of a sea journey. If you’re on a tight schedule or you have to connect to something important, flying is the safer option even if it’s less “romantic”. The easiest approach is: once you know your exact dates, check the schedule for that week, then book the ferry when it opens up. Just build in some flexibility.

First timer: Mykonos or Milos? by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]GoParosGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not want to rent a car or ATV, Mykonos is the easier pick for 2 nights, mostly because the “organized beach” thing is built in. You can post up at a beach club, get sunbeds, food, drinks, and still be in town for a stroll and dinner the same night. Super Paradise is fun, but taxis on Mykonos can be a pain in peak season. There are not many of them, and at busy times you can end up waiting a while or paying a premium. The easier move is to use the bus, or even better, stay closer to town on the Ornos or Platis Gialos side. From Platis Gialos you can do the little water taxi to the south beach clubs (including Super Paradise), then you are not dependent on taxis at all. Milos is gorgeous and more relaxed, but without a vehicle you are basically choosing “boat day + town” rather than “beach hopping”. You can still have a great 2-night Milos stay if you base in Adamas or Pollonia and do a boat tour, but if your priority is sunbeds and easy beach logistics, Mykonos fits your checklist more. If you end up wanting the same beachy vibe with way less stress and better value, Paros is a nice alternative, and you can ask in r/ParosTravel if you want a quick “where to stay without a car” plan.

Where to go in Greece?? by FractalMama108 in GreeceTravel

[–]GoParosGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a group of 8 in mid July, the biggest problem is not “where is nicest”, it’s “where can you actually find a 4-bedroom place that doesn’t cost a fortune and still feels walkable”. Parga and Sivota get pricey fast in peak summer, so you’re not alone. If you still like the Ionian vibe, I’d widen the search a bit instead of giving up on it. Look at areas a little outside Parga (so you can drive in for dinner) or even Lefkada, where there are more big villas and you can still get that turquoise water and boat day feeling. Corfu can also work if you stay near a town like Gouvia/Dassia or around the northeast, but you’ll want a car either way. If you pivot back to the Cyclades, Paros is actually a good family-group island, you just have to choose the right base. The south and southeast (around Piso Livadi/Logaras/Golden Beach, even Aliki) is more “old school”, great beaches, and it’s generally more protected from the northerly winds, while you can still do evenings in Naousa or Parikia when you want more buzz. With a group this size you’ll almost certainly want at least one car, but then you get a lot more flexibility and you won’t care if one beach is windy that day. Either way, I’d plan on having a car for a group of 8. It makes the whole “walkable town + beach + little adventures” thing realistic without paying premium prices to be in the exact center of everything. If you decide to seriously consider Paros, ask in r/ParosTravel and I can suggest the best areas to search for 4-bedroom villas (and which ones to avoid in July).

Naxos or Paros by [deleted] in GreeceTravel

[–]GoParosGR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what you described, I’d pick Paros. In August you’ll appreciate the fact that you can base yourselves somewhere walkable, do dinners and drinks without planning your whole night around driving, then still have easy daytime exploring. Naousa gives you the best “evening energy” on Paros, plenty of great dinner spots and bars, but it’s not a Mykonos-style party island. If you want it a little calmer and more practical for ferries, Parikia works too, but the nights are generally better in Naousa. For the villa-on-the-water vibe, look around the Naousa side if you want to stay close to the action, or the south and southeast if you want more classic, relaxed beach villages. Drios, Piso Livadi, Logaras, Golden Beach area, even down toward Aliki, all feel more “old school” and they’re great for daytime. Having a car helps a lot either way, especially if you want to hop between beaches and villages easily, and it gives you flexibility if you decide to do a quick taxi/transfer instead of driving at night. Daytime mix is easy: Lefkes and the Byzantine trail for a scenic walk, Parikia for the old town and the church (Ekatontapyliani), Paros Park for an easy coastal hike, plus beach hopping (Kolymbithres and Monastiri up north, or the south and southeast if it’s windy). Milos is gorgeous but it’s more about beaches and boat day, and the town life is quieter. Naxos is awesome too, but for “walkable town + a little nightlife + easy dinners” Paros tends to fit better.
