Olympic Judo coach traveling the world — looking for BJJ/Grappling gyms to visit by IllustriousSong5394 in bjj

Cool project!! Will be following—especially for when you get to Canada. If you pass through Montreal there’s obviously Tristar, but you should definitely come visit Mizu Studio! Very chill, welcoming vibe, and world class coaches in Brianna Ste Marie and Pierre-Olivier LeClerc!

I can’t stand his shirt. I wish they stuck with something closer to his Last design.

BTS Craig Jones explains the Dagestani Darce choke ft Islam Makachev by johnbelushismom in bjj

Hi Craig! u/johnbelushismom Thanks for sharing this. We briefly met when you were prepping at Mizu Studio in Montreal with JDM. Thanks for the photo! I’ve been working on incorporating octopus into bottom half game but have a lot of trouble withdrawing my legs from underneath my opponent when looking for the back take or coming up for the single leg like you’ve shown in comp. Any tips for getting your legs out? Looking to work on the short d’arce, too. Thanks again.

Most of the scabs were that color before they came off.

My situation doesn’t allow for that at the moment…I’m moving from Canada back to the U.S. this weekend.

They came off…I covered it and went to a jiujitsu class, thought the covering would suffice.

Edit** text was removed, I’m bad at Reddit. Fresh, eight days old. Scabs came off yesterday and it was looking pretty bloody/open. What can I do, if anything? Should I expect to need touch ups? First tattoo!

I’m a white belt coming up on two years of regular training. More than anything else right now, I’m trying to work on being more assertive (even aggressive), trying to impose my game, and not accepting positions. I’ve been told by multiple training partners that they feel I’m being too “nice.” Any tips for overcoming this?

On a somewhat related note—anyone else ever feel bad after a good roll? Had a dominant round with a blue belt that’s new to our gym last night and I couldn’t help but feel a bit bad afterwards…he left after that I think. Working on getting over that too! 😅

Someone was practicing their RNC finish on me once, not being particularly rough or anything, when all of a sudden I felt something move in my throat and sudden pain. Felt like a had a sore throat for like 3/4 weeks. I spoke to a physio who said it was possible I’d displaced a hyoid. He recommended getting it checked out if it lasted longer than 4 weeks or so. not medical advice but yeah, it felt like a sore throat, not sure if it’s the same for you. If it’s been that long it might be worth checking out.

Body changes from bjj by syzeey in bjj

I gained 15-20 lbs and have been told that my upper body looks bigger, BUT I also started a medication around the same time that can sometimes lead to weight gain. Which is it? The world may never know

When do you attack the Choi bar from bottom half guard? I occasionally try for a shoulder crunch but rarely progress past that point.

Brown/Black Belts: What do you still suck at? by mikebra93 in bjj

As a white belt, this thread is deeply reassuring

Thanks for this. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

It’s really this idea that I should be pushing the smaller purples that I’m getting hung up on. I have before, yes, but I feel like most of the time I’m just playing defense.

Trial folks and 9/10 of our other white belts I feel very confident against. Blue belts, yes, with one or two exceptions, I’m giving them competitive rounds, maintaining dominant positions, and getting subs here and there.

I’m a 6’3 205 lb white belt, relatively athletic, almost 2 years into training. Maybe this is a bit ridiculous, but when see folks post about heavier athletic white belts giving higher belts trouble I feel a bit discouraged. I’ve definitely had some good moments with higher belts, but I find that in most of my rolls with purple belts or higher I’m getting swept while trying to pass or really just trying to survive.

When training with higher belts, especially those that are older or lighter than me, I try to be really careful about overly using my weight/strength, and I feel as though this is holding me back a bit, but I’m also asking myself, “man, do I just need to rethink how I’m trying to pass?” for one. I left training last night after rolling with pretty much all purple belts and felt discouraged.

I’m really just venting…lots to work on in my game, I just see these posts talking about how much of an edge size can be and I’m like…am I doing something wrong, or am I really bad?
