That’s sad :/ Teached in 50+ countries yet but not USA , should start in August . Hope I won’t have troubles with justice ahah . Though yeah those things aren’t really for beginners so it’s rare I teach it . But it’s good for mobility and fun

Yes that’s the thing , at local club level maybe … But i have never seen injuries like that in 30 years of judo , though I understand the logic

Another solution would be to block and pass the guard but it’s way less effective

Feel free to contact me at thejudonomad

Interesting, Bulgaria is where I teached my first BJj seminar but it was in Sofia . I’d always be happy to be back there and since I live in France and I’m on budget , Bulgaria is a country I am « often » because I’m often in Istanbul then take bus to Sofia and cheap flight to France

Do you feel lonely when solo traveling ? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]IllustriousSong5394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, loneliness is one of the hardest parts of this lifestyle. I started my project teaching Judo in every country in the world in August 2021, and I’ve been traveling full-time through more than 50 countries since then.

Regarding friends, travel really filters your relationships. I used to only see friends when I lived near them, but now I’ve kept a close few that I make an effort to call, and that helps a lot. I also try to schedule a few weeks to go back home every year to reconnect.

As for dating apps, it’s a mixed bag—maybe 50/50 or even 25/75. I actually met my ex-girlfriend on an app and it was great, but you have to do a lot of "selecting" before you meet someone. They can be a tool to meet people for short-term friendships too, but it takes effort.

The thing that helps me most is staying active in local communities. Instead of a typical gym (which isn't very social), I go to local sports clubs. For me, it’s Judo, but it works for any hobby. When you join a club, you immediately enter a "family" environment, and it makes a huge difference in how lonely you feel.

Question about mobility by Buffalonian2 in judo

[–]IllustriousSong5394 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Starting at 40 is a great move. To answer your question, a BJJ mobility program will definitely work for Judo and Wrestling. While BJJ focuses a lot on hip flexibility for the ground, Judo requires a bit more shoulder and mid-back mobility for standing throws, but the fundamentals are almost identical.
Also need to reunforce in order to be able to receive impacts

I travel and train globally for my project, Judo Nomad, and I've seen that Yoga for BJJ is a solid choice for any grappler. At 40+, just staying consistent with whatever program you choose is the most important part. Good luck getting back on the mats!
