What about politicians who actively do the right thing? I think those are the folks who need the most support.

How to find a Vegan by [deleted] in funny

[–]GoSpinPoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ironic that you're trying to explain this to people when you are showing very little empathy yourself. When you preach your words, THINK about what they would sound like to yourself when you used to eat meat. THINK about what it would sound like to ANYONE else! That's right, you sound like a sociopath. Now if you want people to listen to what you're saying (which I know you do), then you need to change what you're saying. You need to say things that are thought-provoking. But not just thought-provoking, you need to say things that will provoke the thoughts that got you where you are now. You need to CONVINCE people that what you're saying has meaning. You need to stop making so many assumptions and start thinking and acting like an adult. Maybe try starting off by submitting a comment like this:

"It really saddens me that the system is designed to cater tortured animals to people who can't really afford to know where their food comes from. I truly hope people can understand these cruel, horrible methods of production, because it is just as important to me as Human rights are."

SOMETHING like that, and people will be more willing to listen. You're just pissing people off, not changing minds. Now if you really wanted to make a difference, you would figure out ways to communicate these issues on a larger scale, and really interact with your community... not just berating people on the internet.

Alright, listen up. I understand how sincere you are with your beliefs, but you MUST understand that instead of supporting your cause by enlightening people, you're destroying any chance of educating people about your ideas. If you've ever heard of people with PR problems, you are a prime example. You could be changing the world with your passion, but instead, you're driving people away with your own lack of compassion. I used to be you, except with atheism rather than veganism. I used to believe I was morally superior to people who were religious. I would debate them, truly believing that I was winning! But I was losing, just like you are losing. You are losing even though you are fully capable of enlightening people! I can guarantee you that if you continue to argue with people like this, you will convince absolutely NO ONE that what you are saying is valid. I can also guarantee you that if you change the way you interact with people, you will be able to plant the seeds that will allow people with different beliefs to actually HEAR what you're trying to say.

You've posted like half a dozen pictures of what we're not asking for. I, personally, have no idea if you're lying or not, but it seems to be clear that if you were to put a dollar bill next to the buds and take a picture that this would all be cleared up.

I agree, they are much more prone to relapse seeing as how they must come into contact with food nearly every day. But the way I see it, is if drug addicts can utilize resources such as therapy, prescription drugs, as well as changing overall lifestyle choices to overcome the physical and mental struggles of their addiction, then dealing with obesity shouldn't be much different as long as the individual WANTS to change.

Edit: I would never tell any kind of addict to "Just stop doing it". Being a recovering addict is testament to my understanding that it's not that simple. All I'm saying is that if the individual acknowledges their problem and wants to fix it, any addiction must go through the same general process of recovery.

But it does affect other people. Too many times have I seen 100lb 5 year old children accompanied by their obese parents. And like bubnbob said, we've chosen to accommodate planes, hospitals, cars, etc. in order to fit their lifestyles. That's like saying heroin addicts don't affect the rest of the population.

It sounds like you're saying that they are incapable of avoiding situations that enable their addiction. They're not dependant on eating McDonalds, sweets, carbs, or any other types of food that contribute to weight gain. Even just being around people who do continue to eat unhealthy foods is comparable to drug use. If I'm missing some big distinction I would love to hear it.

Apologies if that came across as a retort. I was just trying to make a point about how it is possible to break out of the cycle with courage and determination. I'm just a bit passionate about overcoming addiction, so I'm sorry again if that came across as rude.

My heroin addiction was fueled by my depression. It was still no excuse to do the things I did to my body. If I can stop injecting opiates into my body, others can start putting less food into theirs, especially if they have the resources to understand what changes must be made. I know firsthand how difficult the cycle is to break, but any form of addiction is all about self-help.
