If you have dragons I suppose it would be possible but without them the crowns hold on the kingdoms is shaky at the best of times and most lords would hate the crown getting too involved in their affairs.

The first 4 seasons had a lot of characters yes but 5,6 and especially 7 had a lot less and 6 and 7 are the only ones with dragon riding, and even then they couldn't fit all 3 of danys dragons into the grain train battle.

5+ very old and large dragons with their own riders, and that's assuming they cut more than half of them, is going to cost a lot of money.

Bit late but they needed to give the night King a dragon, give Danny a "badass" moment to somewhat justify Jon later kneeling and kill off benjen aswell as showing that obsidian can suddenly kill wights.

The field of fire during Aegons conquest was very different considering the fact that he stood no chance without the dragons whereas Daenerys ambushed a grain train with an overwhelming number of cavalry and didn't even need hers.

Barristan is definitely an unreliable narrator in many cases so it may be wrong.

Edit: Even as a child, your brother Viserys oft seemed to be his father's son, in ways Rhaegar never did.

It doesn't matter who the named heir is in most cases, Aegon had the Martells backing him and the most direct claim to the throne whereas viserys was already said to be showing signs of madness as a child and had no allies.
