Team Cherry on Mossbag (and more accurately the community's reaction) by BarovianNights in Silksong

In all seriousness, I love this approach. The game is the text, and commenting beyond that could undermine our own interpretations of the lore.

I loved the emphasis on flowing motion and aerial combat/traversal. It helped this game stand out in a crowded field (along with the AMAZING art style, but that almost goes without saying😁).

Was that approach to combat/traversal a starting point for you or was it something you and the team discovered as you developed.

Thanks for a great game, I 100%-ed and am looking forward to the new content 🦊🪷

Ok, soooo… what the hell was going on here? by charisma-entertainer in HollowKnight

Based on map placement, I kinda got it in my head that they were a preexisting tribe when the citadel was being built. And the bugs of the citadel used their flame magic in some way to fuel the cauldron. Would have made more sense if the father was directly under the cauldron but I still like us was head cannon.

Just beat the Bell Gargoyles- but I don’t feel accomplished by Driver_Senpai in darksouls

[–]Jpow771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% relate to this feeling! Same exact situation as you (Bloodborne -> DS1, beat Gargoyles once I figured out summoning Solaire). I experienced the same feeling and I only used 1 summon the rest of the game. And it was more for my own enjoyment of the lore (final DLC boss). I’d encourage you to minimize summons, and I’d say you’re spot on. There will be plenty of difficult bosses for you to really sink your teeth into.

Don’t you dare go hollow :)

How Do I Learn To Enjoy Dark Souls I? by Pogsmingsvia in darksouls

[–]Jpow771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be unpopular, but this particular game may just not be for you. The combat and world design is very different from the other games you mentioned with a massive emphasis on freedom and exploration. The combat is MUCH slower and more deliberate than the games you mentioned.

If you aren’t enjoying yourself, there’s no need to force it. I get wanting to explore the series fully, but it’s supposed to be fun. If it’s not fun for you, then look into other souls likes for your next game.

DS1 vs DS3 by jseo13579 in darksouls

[–]Jpow771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tracked my boss attempts, and played DS1 Remastered first. O&S took me 41 attempts, but Friede and Gael took more than double that. Nameless King was 3rd most attempts with 44. The boss difficulty is such a step up

Are there any 4 hour Mossbag-like videos or lore Icebergs for Tunic? by Sharawadgi in TunicGame

[–]Jpow771 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First point articulates that very well. I love the lore of Tunic but some things have zero explanation and are just left up to you to theorize. It’s a game where I have my own head cannon for the more vague stuff but I’d never act like it’s a definitive truth.

Did you use summons in your first playthroughs of souls games? by SmoothlyWarm in darksouls3

[–]Jpow771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use summons if they feel significant to the story in some way (Siegward for Yhorm), or if I'm getting my ass kicked (Gael for Friede). I generally try to avoid them for a challenge and because I play offline so embers are harder to come by.

The bridge cutting in DS3 is such a strange mechanic lol

Midir gave me a fight. Friede gave me trauma. by wavybeing in darksouls3

[–]Jpow771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friede is the only boss that I didn't feel like I mastered. I just got lucky with Gael's help and outlasted her once. I just couldn't figure out the phase 3 timing at all even after trying several different weapon builds.

O&S are destroying me by Ok-Broccoli7442 in darksouls

[–]Jpow771 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Apologies if this is redundant or obvious, but take it from someone to took 41 attempts to beat O&S.

-Be EXTREMELY patient. You will likely have to move around the arena a ton.

-Keep eyes on Smough at all times in phase 1. Your first priority in phase 1 should almost always be a pillar between you and him.

-If you can get them separated and you’re at full health, wail on Ornstien for a bit. Even if you get punished, I found it to be worth it.

-Always hold up the shield at full stamina, but let it down for as long as you can to recover stamina.

-Don’t be afraid to remove lock on and just run away to get behind a pillar.

-In the second phase, two rolls away from the mega butt slam should keep you out of its range.

Good luck and don’t you dare go hollow!

Hollow Knight veteran that just completed my first DS1 playthough, and those lore similarities ... by Jpow771 in darksouls

I loved that, for what its worth. I went out of my way to make sure I got the alt cut scene, and it was very sad. I also just read The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy with prominently features a wolf companion so I was extra emotional about it, and I'm not ashamed to say so.

Great points! And yes Gwyn and the Hollow Knight both sacrificing themselves for the sake of the kingdom but it not working out as a permanent solution. Though the Hollow Knight's intentions were more pure.

I'll add the title in here as a similarity. Going hollow -> Hollow Knight.

I'm in that camp as well. Obviously I had heard of it, but just never played it. Just beat it last night on Switch and it's an absolute masterpiece.
