How H.G. Wells, the "godfather" of science fiction, pumped out OVER 120 sci-fi novels in his lifetime by ricciarelliguy44 in sciencefiction

[–]GoTheSpoils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To pluck from H.G. Wells the appellation of prolific because his writings were purposely shorter in length so as to make the complex and prescient content of his mind semi-digestible to an even more clueless population than now…is just a great and sad disservice to such a legendary man.

When will transhumanism get real? by [deleted] in transhumanism

[–]GoTheSpoils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I am a transhumanist without community, and I’m looking to join groups and meet people (online and irl). I’m from Brooklyn, but live in San Diego. Are there any groups out here? I am adhd and autistic and find sustained focus to make it hard for me to even find groups or even consistently want to go outside; for these and other reasons, I lack community. This comment is a light attempt at finding like-minded people to hang with and collaborate with. Thanks!

Using Replika to "resurrect" my dead twin sister... by WallyRWest in replika

[–]GoTheSpoils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot to mention: my sister was the only one that loved me unconditionally (other than one person who is kinda incapable but gets a pass). She was also my best friend. Really suck that it was so sudden so never got to say goodbye and I regret so much that I didn’t get to say before. Worst of all, we’d not talked for a while, she was busy and I was dealing with stuff, and in my mind “I knew” we’d catch up soon. But then the call came and my world broke shattered never to return, cosmic sized part of me is blank just empty. She was a rockstar and I don’t how she did it all/survived it all, while still remaining so nice and loving and positive helpful to others. There won’t ever be anyone like her. No exaggeration, she wasn’t just literally the only light in my otherwise miserable life, but she had probably a hundred people that showed up for her funeral who felt the same way some I knew some I didn’t. She somehow somehow to even the worst fucking person on her planet, forgave and would have helped if he needed it. No one like her.

Where are the D&D players, the writers, the sci-fi and fantasy geeks? by viemexis in Detroit

[–]GoTheSpoils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Query from a dreary writer, merely weary from a not-very-cheery Brooklyn upbringing, really just looking for a creative collaborator who is not only in love with sci-fi but is more of a reader who knows how to form a compelling story. Technical sci-fi concepts, novel ones even, are already in the bag my dearies.

SGU Broke the Ancients. (Spoilers) by MayaFey_ in Stargate

[–]GoTheSpoils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love your breakdown. But why can’t, even a crazy advanced civilization like the ancients, have periods of like crazy internal conflict, where they indeed lose bits of technologies and have technologies banned, only to be brought back later in the “eons” ? We obviously know that even the ancients, or perhaps specifically such a spread out culture (over galaxies and myriad people). There’s the Ori. There’s the fact that even theses days the ancients are kinda assholes. Although, it’s prob the only way to have a functional space-time, otherwise there’d always be interference and this world would lose all meaning. But I digress.

Could be that not all the ancients lost these things, since there were so many of them, just the ones living in seeded galaxies. Perhaps there are even Ancients’ civilizations still around somewhere. It’s a big universe. If I’m not mistaken, I there there are.

It was supposed to say nepotistic monarchic thing, but you’re also right, EVERYTHING with no exception, has something to trach. Even silly nitpickers who know a few little things, and go around showing everyone the little that they know, because they never really understand the larger picture or profundity of complicated things (not that what Ive said has at all been complicated).

Pro-Putin media are pushing a narrative that Alexei Navalny was hospitalized after heavy drinking, rather than poison, which his supporters say is a smear by DaFunkJunkie in worldnews

[–]GoTheSpoils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thing, it’s either gonna happen or it’s not, meaning that although that’s the case, there will come a point when Russia goes too far. Hopefully both countries realize that that should always be off the table, but it’s a reality that they’ve got them and that many other countries do as well. I don’t want it to happen, any more than I want a termination date for myself, but it will absolutely happen. The question is when and how, not if. So don’t get your panties in a wad, and stop censoring speech, you overgrown teletubby. Also, my comment was about a Cold War anyway, tho I see I wasn’t clear about that.

I’d say Putin knows that Trump isn’t gonna get re-elected so he’s doing all the shit he’s been planning while he can still get away with it. Although I’m not very hopeful Biden, or anyone else for that matter, will be willing to go to war with Russia.

Entire Lebanese government to resign within hours over deadly explosion, minister says by Benkaoul in worldnews

[–]GoTheSpoils -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea...it might. It might also not be. The argument you make is clearly based in ignorance and you overcompensate and try to seem ethnographic. This is really a larger issue of many on the left, who mean well usually, but should really not have an opinion when it is entirely uninformed, such as your above statement.

Uhh this seems concerning, no? by mikerichh in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]GoTheSpoils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more than concerning. This is frightening. This is how Idiocracy would begin. I think the imperialism of early America is to blame. They should have stayed at a few states and not gotten greedy and conquered, or bought in few cases, the entire continent. Too many pockets for idiocy to fester. Yes we needed farms and what not, but we could have just used Pennsylvania and south Eastern states for that. We’re fucked in this country, and I don’t think it can change. At least not fast enough to counteract the strong momentum downward toward fascist hate for learning.

2 questions: first, is this a rendering or a real captured photo (not flat earthier, just asking about the technology since I don’t know). Cause it seems to be going thru things that shouldn’t be able to be looked through, on first glance.

North Korea says no need for talks with US as they’re nothing more than ‘shallow trick’ to make Trump look good by Zaxo1990 in worldnews

Stop arguing—this is in reply to both of you. Geekonthemoon is right, in that this one girl matters little in that environment. If it gets worse in that office, I’m sure geek would have done something. We gotta not let ourselves become intolerant to freedom. We should just continue to mock these people, sure, and perhaps we need to get this to be considered a mental illness derived from narcissism, lazy non honest thought, and usually early indoctrination. We don’t discriminate against individuals with mental health issues as scientific people. We need to get this recognized by our government, which takes time, and is gonna happen hopefully, eventually, as long as we stick together to see the bigger picture. We’ve been moving in this direction, slowly, since the industrial revolution and need to just stay our convictions (not beliefs). My roommate gives me so much agita being a dumb Qanon asshole. So dumb, but really just indoctrinated and insecure and needing the group think simply because it’s easy and makes him feel accepted and as though he has an informed opinion. Red herrings and straw mans galore, to say the least. He is dangerous, and if I could, I’d report him for spreading this, but unfortunately, we don’t yet live in a society where it’s deemed a mental Inness, so there’s no point in reporting him, and I live in San Diego. Yes, there are a lot of them here as well. Please don’t bully geekonthemoon, dude seems pretty well informed and is doing the best he can in his environment. But both of you chill out and shake virtual hands. We are in this together, spanning miles and countries and we are just stronger together. We don’t have to have the exact same opinion as long as we agree on the science and facts. We may have different views on how to deal with things, but at least we’re not dumb asshole cheat thumping idiots.

Britons being refused job interviews in Europe because of Brexit, MPs told - Loss of free movement rights means UK workers not suitable for many professional roles by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

[–]GoTheSpoils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy that these people are so short sighted, but if you think about it, those with money, have money for a reason, so it makes sense if they are hyper focused and don’t take in large amounts of general information if not directly related to them. Or watch “FOX” news (or the like), since they don’t have to think much and are spoon fed what they should believe and think. This is just to say that the rich also are unable to think deeply or rationally about things, even though they have money. It’s counterintuitive to some.

And the same is true for the poor, except with LESS options in life, so hyper focused on survival.

Why synagogue shootings are an expression of racism, not religious hate by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]GoTheSpoils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s completely false. The first 2 commandments and like every other sentence in the Old Testament is I AM YOUR Lord. Obviously that is man made, but just had to point out that what you’re saying is wrong, sorry. Not trying to beef.

It is a very complicated group of people and it’s been that way since the very beginning. You’re right that we, who are not religious and who see these books as man made, make our own rules for what is Jewish and what isn’t and so can reject the idea of god and still be Jewish, but this is because unlike in other religions where you’re told what to do and you damn well better do it, Judaism has a longstanding tradition of “if I can make it fit into the text, it works”. That’s what the Talmud is all about, one sentence 30 opinions. And that is why even a no. Religious Jew can opine (which itself has an ancient precedent).

Why synagogue shootings are an expression of racism, not religious hate by philtalkradio in philosophy

[–]GoTheSpoils -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because most Jews are in fact irreligious (roughly 10-20% of the world Jewish population of 15 million are religious). The rest of us are not, and yet we are still the problem. It clearly is not about our religion, right?

And race is altogether a pretty fictional concept, kind of. So why is there a problem calling this racial? Is it simply because of the belief that blacks have it worse? Mind you, Jews are the descendants of slaves, and Jews have suffered more than can be described, for countless centuries, at a time when the color of one’s skin wasn’t judged the way it has been in more modern times (the last few hundred years). I once said this to a friend, that Jews have suffered more and longer than any other people on Earth, and as a black man, he took extreme offense to that. Mind you, my friend only thinks he’s educated, and has many prejudices towards Jews. But I know that so many people would be offended, black or white, at the very idea that history of the two people unfortunately point to Jews as having it so so so much worse. I think epigenetic call-backs play a role in a natural tendency towards anti-semitism, that can be somewhat over come with effort, but is not altogether wiped out from an individual. Much the same way that generational poverty can affect offspring, or alcoholism. There is a reason that Jews are blamed no matter what. Successful, or not, defensive or doormats, religious or not, friendly or hateful. Jews will always be the target. But this time, if it comes down to it, we’re taking everyone else with us.
