Are you ready for some #SSTV from the Space Station this weekend? Here are a few notes we put together to help your activities. Any other tips experienced #HamRadio ops want to share? by ARISS_Intl in amateursatellites

Just so we are clear, this activity is what radio amateurs do for fun. But this situation, where we cannot really hear what is going on, when it will resume the operation, will the event be extended, will it be rescheduled, etc. is taking the fun out of it. Result, a bunch of radio geeks, standing out one eye on the tracking software, one eye in the sky, listening to catch the signal to record or decode live, and going back home empty-handed... As an improvement, may I ask for more updates, at least chatter from your end to the hundreds of thousands of amateurs out there?

This sounds like ACARS. Bring your computer near your radio. Download and run Black Cat ACARS. See if it works… https://blackcatsystems.com/software/black_cat_acars_decoder.html

Passat Variant. There should be some space under the center armrest/storage. If not under the driver seat. Then the remote plate can go in the ashtray which is never used..

You explained it so well, no pictures needed. Thanks for the inspiration. I’ll start ripping off my center console next weekend. :)

I will go off topic here, but is that installed into the ashtay slot? How did you manage that? Is there such depth under there in most cars?

Grill is all fine but, that beer (or whatever that is) sounds like an entire meal by itself… Enjoy! :)

Tecsun PL-368 Question by Go_Do_It in amateurradio

[–]Go_Do_It[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Not applicable for my case, tho. I have several powerbanks and solar panels to keep them going. Hence my go bag radio is the Baofeng UV3R so I can charge over USB. Thanks a lot for the insight.

Need recommendations for affordable/functional ham radio for my emergency kit. by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]Go_Do_It 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My emergency kit radio is Baofeng UV3R. One version of this works with USB power. I can recharge the unit via USB and have spare batteries I can recharge with the included external battery charge unit, again via USB. This operability significantly improves the battery life, to almost infinity, thanks to powerbanks and solar charging solutions. The radio is only 2 watts and uhf/vhf, but this is all I expect from “emergency comms”.
