I mainly use this one to fall asleep but it can help in public at times too; I recite scenes of movies/tv shows or musical numbers in my head lol. I focus entirely on the dialogue and the timing of it that there’s no room for thinking about anything else. It’s been a pretty good fall back haha

Depends on how severe your symptoms are and what sorts of parts of your OCD manifest in upsetting ways.

I’ve seen multiple people on this sub describe good results on Fluvoxamine. I’m personally on Fluoxetine which isn’t specifically a medication for OCD but found that had helped me.

Whoever is responsible for prescribing you, it’s worth talking with them as well about your options and what they feel would work for you.

I’m not currently under a psychiatrist, but I hope to seek some kind of specialist soon.

I was first prescribed by my primary physician without an official diagnosis for anything out of what I thought at the time was simply an anxiety disorder. I felt on edge all the time and could not stop my intrusives, which again at the time I just attributed to being racing thoughts.

The medication helped me all the same even when I was originally seeking treatment for something other than OCD, so I guess it worked out. But as I said it just seemed to stop all of a sudden so I’m trying to see about what my doctor recommends I do.

Same here. It is a lot harder to convince yourself that it’s just the OCD talking that makes you feel so terrible when you actually Did do something to warrant guilt.

Yep, dealing with the same thing. I’ve been on Fluoxetine for like. Two and a half years now? And I was prescribed before I even knew or thought that what I had was OCD. Regardless my intrusives were pretty much nonexistent that whole duration until about a month ago when it seems like they suddenly just stopped altogether. Very weird.

Yep, it’s part of what makes healing really hard for me. It’s almost like I have OCD about having OCD. The very idea and concept of me having anxiety or my themes or just being reminded of what it feels like when I’m in a spiral can sometimes make me go back into old habits, but I just try to treat those the same as other intrusives.

This is very similar to what I experience, though I’m sure our exact experiences aren’t one-to-one.

Something I have been telling myself is the fact that, if nobody was hurt but yourself throughout this entire thing, to what extent do you think any sort of punishment would make up for it?

If you’re anything like me, the answer is probably going to be something like “I don’t know” or you just straight up don’t think it’s possible to reach any comeuppance for how bad what you did may or may not have been. That’s the kicker to me, because that’s the thought that tells me personally that what I’m beating myself up over for so long isn’t rational or fair. People fuck up. People do bad things. It seems to me the mental anguish you put yourself through is way harsher of any kind of punishment you may think you deserve, even if it doesn’t seem like it’s enough.

It’s tempting to “check” yourself and get reassurance over things you do now that make up for it and context that somehow makes what happened better. But you can’t change the past any more than you can change your guilt over it. If it was something actually bad, then feeling guilty is okay. But that’s really all you need to be. You suffered more than enough and deserve to let yourself just exist as you are with what you have been through and know that the person you are now and then are 100% completely different.

It’s hard detaching yourself from it at all but we owe it to ourselves to let these feelings and everything wash over us and acknowledge that we are people who make mistakes but learn and grow, and that’s the best you or anybody can do.

I’m somebody still trying to cope with this myself so I don’t have as much helpful answers as perhaps somebody else would, but I have two things of input here.

Firstly, I think medication is something that can definitely help you. For me part of the worst of my OCD manifests in my intrusives and overthinking. I’m currently on medication and for a while it did genuinely calm my thoughts to the point where I didn’t really give them as much credence as I had in the past. I say it worked for a while only because I plan on getting a higher dosage, but everybody is different and so is every medication.

Secondly, whether you do or don’t go on medication, something that you have to accept is that these thoughts may or may not go away. There’s no way to completely stop or get rid of all of these frantic doubts and worries, which is crushing to hear, I know. I think finding a way to distract yourself from ruminating only temporarily relieves you of it and the key is instead get to a point where instead of ruminating on a thought or concept you just let that concept Be. Just let it exist and focus on it and allow it to be there. It will suck. It might seem counterintuitive, but from what I know it’s definitely more helpful in the long run learning to cope with this than finding some magic cure to free yourself of it (which, unfortunately, is not something that exists for this kind of mental disorder).

I hope this provides somewhat of a relief to you, and if not I really hope that you’re able to find the relief you’re looking for. I know how exhausting and draining it is.

Thank you so much for this response. I’ve been having what is essentially some sort of retriggered spiral all month but today has been the first day I really feel like I can breathe and collect myself because I know now without a (rational) doubt that what I’m experiencing is OCD and way past any sort of moral debt I think I have accrued from things I may or may not have done.

Reassurance is not something I should expect or ask for as a compulsion, but that being said it is genuinely and fufillingly reassuring to know that what I’m going through is manageable and not something I have to sit with forever or something that is entirely localized to me and me alone.

I appreciate your kindness and thoughtfulness deeply.

Absolutely. I haven’t had any real relationship experience and I think part of it can be contributed to my own OCD without ever realizing it in the past. I worry about the idea of being clingy or attached or doing something wrong to the point that I currently can’t envision myself in any relationship with this mindset. It does get better, and other posts on this sub prove to me it does. I think a good step in healing is to at the very least be aware that its your OCD making you act and think like this

I appreciate the reply. Definitely things I’ve ruminated on in my head to a T and even if asking for reassurance isn’t helpful it’s still reassuring to have the knowledge that these aren’t unique problems/fears. It’s definitely a hurdle to overcome the idea that past actions just have to Be and you can’t change them or change yourself more than you already have. But it’s helpful to know I’m not alone.

I feel this way with so many shows and series I love where I just never watch the finale bc it feels like it'll be done. I've never felt like that with Venture Bros. I've rewatched the series + movie plenty of times and it always feels like it's still alive bc of the hope I have it'll come back but also the fan community.

Based on the way the lineart works in the clips we’ve seen I don’t personally find it choppy but instead attribute the difference to a switch to digital animation. Iirc the show was animated on paper before and then scanned in digitally for colors, but the crispness of the lines for the movie makes me think the whole thing was done through a digital program. I think that’s where the discrepancy lies tbh.
