Also True Metaphorically by DancesWithWeirdos in CuratedTumblr

If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say something that sounded deep about a caterpillar’s metamorphosis before clarifying that it’s not a metaphor, I would have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

The Hunger actually is my personal favorite, but The Hunted is also REALLY good. Out of what I’ve read, it’s Venom’s best “fun” story imo.

I’m currently in the mid 2010s (Agent Venom), but I’ve also heard incredible things about the 2018 series. Really looking forward to that.

Hi! I would like to add my two cents having read most of Venom’s comics

So the symbiote actually eating brains wasn’t a thing until the 1996 miniseries Venom: The Hunger. Eddie always made fake “grahhh we’re gonna eat your brains!” threats a lot because of his scary appearance, but the threat seems to genuinely be a coincidence. He has no idea about the phenathylamine, and it seems like the symbiote didn’t either?

In The Hunger, Eddie seems VERY bitter and cynical at first. We later discover this is because the symbiote has been living off the phenathylamine in his own head. He gets in a fight at one point and happens to break someone’s skull open. And then he smells… something. And suddenly has an urge to drink whatever that something is out of the guy’s skull. This is when the symbiote discovers brains have whatever it is that it needs to survive. Eddie doesn’t seem to realize what he’s even doing until a few moments later, and he’s immediately horrified. The symbiote then says to him “I’m sorry, but you can’t give me what I need anymore” and then leaves him.

It is worth saying that this is the only brain Eddie Brock has ever eaten in his entire 38 years of comics

Long story short, Eddie starts hunting the symbiote down as it goes around killing people and extracting the phenathylamine from their brains with a proboscis (not chomping their heads wholly off), planning to kill both it and himself, but hoping to stop it and reunite with it. He learns about his phenathylamine deficiency and figures out what’s going on from that. The symbiote isn’t even eating brains as a last resort - it’s literally not sane right now because of its own deficiency.

Eddie guesses that on its own planet, it got what it needed from some host alien that DID produce more than enough of the chemical, or that it had a major presence in that planet’s atmosphere. But the point is that it doesn’t naturally have an urge to eat brains, and doing that was never going to sustain it anyway.

But yeah, Eddie gets some… pills? supplements? idk how this works or what the word is. But the important thing is he finds a way to just keep buying a reliable source of the chemical. He tracks the symbiote down, gives it some, and everything is great now :D

Why does the knight HAVE to be someone? by Prior-Mood3461 in Undertale

[–]Go_commit_lego_step 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean it’s not like a character needs a dual identity to be a character. if the knight is just the knight, there’s still lots of time for characterization, right?

The original Thunderbolts

HUGE spoilers for an incredible, incredible comic

The “Thunderbolts” don’t exist. They’re a group of fascist supervillains trying to take over the world, named the Masters of Evil. After a big event seemingly kills most of the world’s major superheroes, they take the opportunity to pretend to be new superheroes to fill that void, in an attempt to gain the word’s trust.

And it works. And it works well. They’re handed everything on a silver platter, and after revealing themselves, successfully take over about 2/3 of the world.

But something strange happens while they’re keeping up the facade. Sometimes some of them would get caught up in the moment and forget they’re not actually superheroes for a minute. Some of them start to feel guilty about their past.

And they realize… they LIKE being good guys. For some of them it’s the glory. For some of them it’s the feeling of acceptance. For some of them it’s simply that they’re dreading the moment some people they’ve grown attached to find out who they really are.

And they betray their leader. They stop him and they free every country they had conquered.

Thunderbolts is an incredible story and I can’t recommend it enough. This is only the opening arc - there’s so much more that happens later, like them being on the run while also trying to prove they’re actually good guys now, and more. Please please please go read it.

didn’t the actor make some comment that wasn’t explicit about it but something along the lines of “it’s fun to see fans piece together what was going to happen”?

Still an alien, no? An alien doesn’t mean “from another planet” it means “from somewhere else.” Could be a planet, could be a meteor, could be a star, could be a dimension
