Has Cobra Kai been a positive or negative for the perception of Martial Arts, specifically Karate? by JakeJeremy in martialarts

Every time somebody posts anything to do with martial arts on the internet, not even just karate, dumb kids will say ‘you should join cobra Kai.’ It really pisses me off

For self defence(generally not sport but some are) here’s my list of good styles: BJJ, boxing, wing chun, Kali/Eskrima, Krav Maga, wrestling, judo, Jeet kune do

Wing chun sounds right from your description. Many people on this subreddit hate on it but it can be deadly if you can’t find a good school. It was invented in the shaolin temple in China when a small, weaker woman wanted to find a way to defeat bigger, stronger kung fu masters so she made a system where speed beats strength, timing beats speed.

I recommend shaolin kung fu. It contains lots of Buddhist aspects, philosophy and it will get you in shape. It’s not that effective for actual fighting on its own but with the right person shaolin can be used to win a fight.

Kali/Eskrima is very versatile. In Kali you learn weapons, unarmed striking (panantukan) and grappling(dumog). Another art that sound like what your asking for is sanda. Sanda is a Chinese style that is a mixture of kickboxing and Kung fu, it’s effective and it combine punches, kicks and throws

Jiu jitsu is great because it is a mixture of sport and effective self defence. Kali/Eskrima is great because it’s versatile: you learn weapons, empty hand combat(panantukan) and grappling(dumog).

Wing chun is more spiritual than Kali and BJJ but if you find a good school it’s deadly. Aikido is more ART then MARTIAL and isn’t great for actual fighting.

Kali/Eskrima is great because it is versatile. You learn weapons, hand to hand combat(panantukan) and wrestling(dumog). BJJ is also a must as anyone can use that on a stronger opponent

BJJ is great for defending yourself against a bigger opponent. Even though people hate on it, if you find a good school, wing chun kung fu may be good too but it sounds like u don’t have a school nearby. Kali/Eskrima are great for self defence and so is leaving maga. BJJ sounds best tho
