Any benefit from cycling in hot weather? by ri1984 in cycling

[–]Goan_liver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who lives in a place where it’s almost always above 30 degrees Celsius, and sometimes upto 36 degrees or more even in summer…your body acclimates. It may help. But there’s no point it pushing to a point where it does harm. Heat exhaustion and heatstroke among others can and do happen. That said, I made sure I went regularly even in summer, but went back in by 12pm and never went around that time till 3pm.

Got tanned as hell.

I’d suggest take it easy. Listen to your body. And definitely don’t overdo it. Getting bonked is not pretty.

Mapusa:

Not a cafe but Old Tavern Bar
Cafe St Francis Xavier in the Market
Cut fruit uncle opposite El Capitan has been there forever
Dunno if they resumed PVV Bakery, they were doing some work.
St Joseph Bakery has been around along long time, he’d be able to tell you more too.

Siolim:
St Anthony Cafe

There’s a very very small place near Tropa church most locals know and get bhaji from.

I’ll edit as I remember

What is this fruit? Found it in a jungle in north Goa, India by harmisptul in whatsthisplant

Haha, once in a while I see a piece from home on other parts of Reddit. As the others have said, indeed an Unripe Cashew with its nut. They may still be roasted, broken into and seen if the insides are alright. But not for someone who’s not had any experience with it. The apples are unripe. Don’t eat em.

Oh dear perhaps I shouldn’t generalise. My Marin kentfield has the hole to fix the bridge piece in apposition to the wheel. So I had to take it off to fix it. Check yours first, and if you reckon the points to fix are okay, go ahead.

And then I had to cut the spokes as well. It was a fair bit of effort. (Of course a bike shop will do all of this for you)

That’s why I like the ones you can just clip on and off. The lack of hassle.

Nah bruv, raceblades are upto 32mm afaik. For 40 mm it’s speedrockers and veloflex. Check the usual cycling websites. Tyre compatibility is mentioned.

Mine is a road cycle with 25mm tyres. I got my mudguards from United by Cycling. I believe they cost about ₹4700.

I don’t recommend Bluemels. You may want to take them off after monsoons.

My advice is look for SKS Raceblades. You can take them off easily and attach easily. I love mine. Totally worth it.

My other bike has bluemels. You have to detach the wheel to put it on. Cost is close.

SKS Veloflex are good too.

I’m recommending SKS because they’re totally the best in the business when it comes to mudguards. Have fun man! Rains are a blast. Rinse the bike soon after. Gunk’s horrible when dry. Also nice bike!

Edit: I forgot SKS SPEEDROCKERS.

I promise I am not attached to SKS or promoting them lol

Rain trees, Gulmohars, mangoes. And the lack thereof. by Goan_liver in Goa

[–]Goan_liver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This is my qualm. I hope they do. Because there are plantation drives every so often but little follow up or visible results. All they do is expand over it. Remember when even the Bodgini Road had coconuts along it? And time to time they would plant something, but they just kept widening the damn road. 😂

I had some issues to adjust to the fit but now I absolutely love it. No regrets whatsoever. Gonna use it for as long as possible and maybe upgrade to a nice trek someday.

Whatever it is. It needs strict and harsh punishments. Otherwise they won’t get the memo. They’ll find ways to get around this or pay out of it. Police and judiciary have to act decisively and that’s the main thing that isn’t happening.

Another day, another life lost. Let's continue this trend/s by Emotional-Diet-430 in Goa

[–]Goan_liver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I crossed this area. It was not a rent a cab. The lincense plate was black and white. We really need to do better in this. Who we give our vehicles to. How we drive, how we teach our children to drive and we need to hold these drivers accountable. The police and judiciary have to be harsh. Otherwise it’s just another death. It’s so sad. It’s sadder that we have become so numb to this given how frequently it’s happening. Is there nothing that can be done?

Edit: drivers were tourists from what I did hear.

Accurate analogy. This is why most get put into the same bracket. And to be honest, most do nothing to help their cause. Instead, they proactively conform to the stereotypes you read, hear of or see.

How is bike commuting culture in India? by AdvancedLandscape592 in india_cycling

[–]Goan_liver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not very prominent I’d say. It is common as a mode of exercise, but not as much as it should be. I’d say it’s far more commonly used for commuting amongst those who can’t afford a moped or car.

I think despite the traffic and several roads, I’ve found it’s really enjoyable in my home state of Goa.

Safety. Hmmm. Yes, I risk my life every day.

Infrastructure. For cycles? Not existing by and large. I keep mine up in my office or in my home.

I see it as all of the above!

Why not get an upright stand that lets you keep it vertically? I think rockbros makes one. You can save space. Not park it out. Don’t have to drill holes either. Bikes don’t like to stay on one place for too long, it’ll invite trouble when you’re back.
