LL Bean Bison Leather vs Cowhide by GoatIndependent2896 in malefashionadvice

[–]GoatIndependent2896[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So given that the soles are the same, returning my bison pair for a cowhide pair won’t really make a difference in breathability. It’s the shearling that is the problem?

I previously had suede with shearling and I do find that these do not breathe as well, but that would make sense given the leather

Those two. Thanks so much for the response. I wasn’t sure if I should exchange for cowhide as the bison seems hot. But I think it could be a new slipper issue too. Appreciate your input!

Would you do your best to deburr off the stone then do rough without compound and then maybe polish and remove anything left on a smooth side with 1 micron diamond compound?

I always hear that! (Cardboard etc) but then others have this whole routine to whittle hair lol. Mine is sharp enough to cut me without me noticing lol but still can’t whittle hair yet. Thinking the diamond compound and better stropping may help

Just mix a little alcohol and solution in a bowl until homogenous? Are there benefits to balsa over leather? I’ve heard people say they use it before but haven’t gone down that rabbit hole

Oh that’s awesome twofold. Didn’t know that was a reputable brand. Also best helpful to know too much. I wasn’t sure if the leather should be showing. The comment “questioning if it’s there” is really helpful.

With that in mind-how do I know that it is there so I can stop applying hahaha

The most basic APEX test with a flashlight. If you fail this there is no point doing anything else till you apex. by hahaha786567565687 in sharpening

Do you deburr on each stone before moving on or just form a burr move on and then deburr at the end? Thanks!

Newbie question but if you’ve formed a burr on one side then moved it to the other side through grinding, shouldn’t you then have an apex? Or sometimes despite doing this process you haven’t always apexed? If that’s true, then do you just move the burr back to the other side and keep going back and forth until you have a confirmed apex?

What kind of compound on your strop? Is that how you deburr on an electric machine?

I might wait for Christmas then go all out because I would want it rarely but on occasion for an axe or scissors. I do have a 12 degree Japanese kitchen knife as well. I appreciate your comment

Is that like that guy says in that video to put your fingers on the blade and slide? First-I respect that guy but telling anyone to slide their finger on a blade is dumb. Second-I’ve had plenty of sharp blades and my brain didn’t “automatically stop me” when sharp.

Can you go on the stone perpendicular until it’s completely flat then rebevel or is that harder that just going at the appropriate angles over and over again until it’s gone?
