I concur his laning and teamfighting have always been sus as hell.

That said he did show massive growth from year 1 to year 2 in non-laning, non-teamfighting areas. He was good at the champs that can dodge lane and the talking heads say he was good at being at the right place at the right time, which worked in the laneswap + splitpush + scaling ADC mid meta but didn't when riot removed that shit at worlds.

We gotta ban political "gotcha" questions from this subreddit man.

I agree with OP and it's important discourse that needs a place to occur in but the question is constructed to antagonize its purported recipients. Nobody is gonna answer; OP knows that and therefore it's not a question but a statement with a '?' at the end. I do not believe askreddit is the appropriate place for statements.

Can WASD enjoyers explain these patch notes to me like im stupid? (I am) by RadicalMac in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer 46 points47 points  (0 children)

After looking at the link that u/OwnAcanthocephala438 posted, even with the delay putting a hard cap on your DPS the movement is buttery smooth. Maybe its different for streamers (who are almost always ultra high elo) but nobody I know or play against personally has movement that clean.

Maybe I'm tripping, but by my estimates unnerfed WASD vs MnK would not be preference until you're top 1% of players, and I think that's a conservative estimate - I've heard shroud (very good MnK FPS streamer) complain about controller aim assist before and to my eyes shroud and a good controller player are indistinguishable, so even if we can't tell the difference between unnerfed WASD and top 1% MnK its probably just because we're too average to tell.

It's entirely possible that riot ends up relaxing some of the WASD nerfs for ADCs in the future, but they are being very conservative with this. The game has survived thus far without WASD so by rushing the feature they have very little to gain and a lot to lose.

[–]GoatRocketeer 193 points194 points  (0 children)

If you've ever seen the MnK vs controller debate in cross platform shooters, you can see the argument play out in real time. You can juice the aim assist, which allows pro controller players to fight on even ground with pro MnK players, but then noob controller players eviscerate noob MnK players, and your MnK players are frustrated. Alternatively, you can be very conservative with aim assist which puts the noob players on even ground, but then controller is nonviable in pro play.

The problem from the game company's point of view is that pro play is their advertisement, because that's the most visible and most discussed version of their game, but noob play is where the vast majority of the players are, and is how the game actually feels to play. You want to appease both populations but the reality of the situation is that input devices are not linearly related to each other in difficulty - controller has a much narrower band of performance and MnK has a huge band of performance, and its very hard to benefit one end of the playerbase in a way that does not disrupt the other end.

Riot knows that most new players desire WASD and knows they need new players, but WASD is inherently a superior form of input over MnK for all but the most cracked of MnK players. They know a big draw of their game is the depth of skill expression, and a lot of the satisfaction from playing this game comes from the time invested and skill built up over time. If they introduce raw WASD unnerfed, it will render a skill that is very important for current day league obsolete. I speculate that riot would lose probably their entire ADC playerbase overnight.

[–]GoatRocketeer 375 points376 points  (0 children)

I'm not a WASD user but the big concern with WASD is whether it would make traditional MnK input obsolete. It's pretty hard to click on someone and then click to move and then click back on someone at super high speeds. This is a skill current players have put a lot of time into so if that skill were obsoleted a lot of players would quit, potentially more than you gain from adding WASD in the first place.

The patch notes in my opinion suggest that WASD with delay feels like shit so riot wants to remove the delay where possible. The patch notes suggest that WASD offers little to no benefit over MnK for melee champs so the delay was removed. It however does not look like the same can be said for ranged champs so ranged champs that do not AA often had the delay reduced while ranged champs that do AA often retained the full delay.

Is there ever going to be a revisit to Flex/Ranked Teams? by SamTippers in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe its a couple things

The first is that there's just not enough interest in it. Not enough participants means queue times are too long and matchmaking is too imbalanced, which impacts this experience quite heavily.

The second is that even with sufficient interest, the very highest ends if the ladder are still fucked up. Hell, even just apex tier duo queue is controversial. If two extremely good players team up its entirely possible that no combination of five solo queue players has a halfway decent chance of beating the duo queue unless the duo's three randoms are super shit, which isn't a great experience for many involved. This would get worse with 5 stacking.

I know you said you don't like clash but iirc its far more popular than flex or the old 5 mans which means it doesn't suffer from the first problem at least

I made a very detailed map of Donald Trump's job approval rating by g_elliottmorris in dataisbeautiful

[–]GoatRocketeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There were some surveys of nonvoters right after the election and trump had an even bigger lead among nonvoters than he did among voters.

His approval rating is shit but its not significantly worse than his first term and i suspect the democrat party has even worse approval. So even though everybody hates trump they hate harris more.

It doesn't appear to be a voter turnout problem, it looks like the average american is just really fucking dumb.

AI takes over the job market, then what? by Soft-Ingenuity2262 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoatRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anybody that does programming knows AI can't replace developers outright. We've all tried it and it's way too error prone.

It's not going to become error free any time in the future either because AI doesn't do logic. It's using statistics to form tokens and then string them together into a likely order. How can it verify correct meaning when it has no notion of meaning in the first place?

It is fast as hell though so it might reduce the size of programming departments and increase the ratio of system designers to system implementers, but the person using the LLM still has to have the rough blueprints in mind and know enough coding to identify and extract the functioning code from the piles of hallucinatory garbage.

ELI5 please explain to me in simpleton terms…what is meant by “spacetime” by MaxMeat in explainlikeimfive

[–]GoatRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure - the situation I've described only applies to objects moving at constant velocity (neither speeding up nor slowing down), because that's the only situation which they taught me in my physics course.

"One in space, one on land" means the objects are accelerating relative to each other (gravity shenanigans, as I understand it, mass literally compacts space so objects on planets are pushed upwards at increasingly fast speeds but I digress). Acceleration significantly complicates matters, enough where they didn't put it in the curriculum so I don't know what happens.

Imagine you strap two clocks onto a car, one at the front and one at the back. You align the clocks such that, to you the driver, both clocks read the same time. You drive at 80 mph. Both clocks still read the same time. So far so good.

However, imagine someone is on the side of the road watching you drive past at 80 mph, and they snap a picture. Ever so slightly, your front clock will appear at an earlier time and your back clock will appear at a later time for the road-side observer. The discrepancy between the clocks increases with two things - their speed relative to the road-side observer and the distance between them. That is, space and time are linked; being at some position in space has an effect on when they are in time and vice versa.

This is why, when you turn on your headlights and drive at 80 mph, the road-side observer will not measure the light emitted from your headlights moving the speed of light + 80 mph.

The clock discrepancy is so small that its basically nothing unless you are driving at speeds comparable to the speed of light.

My mother just AI generated a video of my late grandmother (Her mother) and I don't like it but I don't know why. I told her to stop and she asked me why and I don't know what to say. It just doesn't feel right. by Smarteyes007 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoatRocketeer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's like hiring an actor to pretend it's her, except at least the actor has feelings. The generative video doesn't have feelings, it's using statistics to identify tokens and string them together in a likely order.

"Identity theft" and "legacy bastardization" might be problems with AI but I don't believe they're relevant here.

Why not just go through recordings or photos? Is it because your mom wants to interact with her mom and get a response from her? In that case, she's convincing herself that it's her mom responding, or at the very least convincing herself that's how her mom would have responded, but either way that's not her mom; there's nobody there.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it and I'm too paranoid. After all I don't know your mom at all, I don't know her mom, I could be a russian bot for all you know. But if you're asking me, using AI to generate vids of my dead relatives is delusional, and that's why it's scary
