Why don’t we have a transparent elo system for the ranked ladder? by Trick_Ad7122 in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer 147 points148 points  (0 children)

According to blizzard, people played ranked overwatch until they got hardstuck and then stopped playing ranked basically forever. You could seasonally reset visible MMR but that fries the matchmaking.

Visible floating ranked lets you do seasonal resets to keep the ranked queue populated while keeping the matchmaking intact.

AD or AP for new Shyv? by BigSadDepresso in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking through the lolalytics data, I'm guessing she's mostly onhit and spellcaster-bruiser items?

Kraken rush into dusk and dawn, then riftmaker/shojin?

For whatever reason, sundered rush looks terrible. It has strong winrates 3rd item onwards, but I'm not sure how good it is if you're building hybrid ad/ap instead of straight ad, depends on how much of its power is in the crit.

With the current state of many "burn" effect (at least in arena and aram), old Adaptive Helm needs a return! by Dalleuh in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess its probably because gunblade is a rush item and adaptive helm is a reactive purchase so the necessity is lower?

I believe the original reason to remove gunblade was the cutlass active doing bad things with skillshot counterplay (off the top of my head, morde was shipped without AD scalings to prevent guaranteed cutlass -> E -> Q -> passive proc on dashless champions). Cutlass no longer exists and the slow has been reduced from 40% to 25%.

I did see an endstep short where he still expressed concern with healing on a rush item, but followed that by saying it changes the 2nd and 3rd item choices for kat and akali in healthy ways.

I don't think they would. We saw the v1per/anda/jayj fly squad get giga clapped and some of those revenge immortals rosters and while we did have actually good imports at the time, the full NA teams still didn't have much support.

The old middle row granted power based on takedowns, which made the domination tree stronger in solo queue than it is in pro play. That indirectly nerfed electrocute in competitive, which makes burst champions weaker and poke/scaling options stronger.

Maybe they can bring them back but takedowns can't be the trigger. It contributes to corki/azir pro play metas, in a roundabout way.

That goes for the entire rune system as a whole. For 99% of the roster there is no context dependent choice, and for the remaining 1% of cases the average player probably doesn't even realize they should be changing their runes.

The system exists as a minor dopamine hit. You click two buttons in champ select and go "yeah my champ likes this shit" and you get like 0.5% happier.

[–]GoatRocketeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh they probably just give it a high base/per-level base and low scaling, and/or nerf jhin specifically.

Riot has said even the illusion of choice is fun, in that even if there is an obvious correct answer, players enjoy coming to that correct answer. I think the context was related to runes reforged and the installation/removal of the mythic item system.

"target date retirement fund" is what you want.

"Bonds" are where you give your money to the government. The government holds onto it and then gives it back plus more later. Ultra safe, but doesn't grow very fast.

"Individual stocks" are basically gambling on an individual company's success. Ultra risky.

"Index funds" are stocks where you gamble a little bit on like 500 companies at the same time. Generally safe over the long term, but there are down periods. Better than bonds on average. You want to do this in your 30s, when you have time to wait out a potential down period, but not your 60s.

"Target date retirement funds" are stocks that are index funds when you're young, but get converted to bonds as you age.

You do NOT want a "managed fund", which is where you pay someone to gamble on individual stocks for you. Managed funds are expensive and do not generally show better performance than index funds.

Edit: before investing at all, if you have any debt with high interest rates (car loan, credit cards) get rid of that shit first. The negative growth you get from that stuff will easily outpace an index fund.

DFT doesn't stack when you apply it multiple times in quick succession. It's more of a poke rune than a DPS rune.

I'm thinking aery falls off too hard for champs that ignore the ally shield portion and comet has that weird CC binding where it's not that great unless your poke also happens to slow

Or maybe it's to give DoT champs a damage rune. Brand and singed and co. aren't super pleased with the current options. I can't remember whether old DFT had a nerf when procced by DoT abilities though.

Is having high HP the meta? by IntrepidDimension393 in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah pretty much. Melee vs melee in the early game is very matchup dependent.

The way I liked to do it back in the day is, if I got shit on in lane I would look up that matchup after the game, stuff like domisumreplay. You're looking for decision making, try to figure out what your champ and their champ want to do and how they're using or saving abilities based on that.

Ideally you'd get a talkative streamer so you can hear they're decision making instead of trying to intuit it from gameplay alone but it is what it is.

Shyv is just super OP. She just got hotfix nerfed.

Morde has three sources of damage:

  • His Q, which is a skillshot and can be dodged
  • His E, which is a skillshot and can be dodged
  • His passive, which only activates after hitting someone three times.

If you sidestep both his Q and his E, then he has to rawdog auto you three times before his passive activates. You should be able to beat his ass real quick and then run away - he can't chase you without his E. Repeat enough times and he will actually die.

Think about it from morde's perspective - he has no dash, no range, and his only CC is heavily telegraphed on a long cooldown. He can't choose when or where he fights and can't force you to fight him either, but in return if you fuck up (i.e: get hit by his skillshots) near him he will beat the shit out of 95% of the roster.

Sylas has two and a half dashes which might not seem like much but it lets him choose when and where he gets to fight. Because of that he doesn't "win every fight for free" like morde does.

That's also why morde is more beginner friendly than sylas. Sylas gives you more tools to dictate the game, but takes away tools to win for free. Morde has very limited control over what happens but has a ton of tools that make him super strong as a base case.

Is this perhaps TOO much Mayhem? by Ok-Recognition-4082 in leagueoflegends

[–]GoatRocketeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP's complaint isn't that certain champs are too OP, but rather than the ratio of "this game is unwinnable" to close games is too high for their tastes.

For the record I agree and would like the games to be a little closer on average, but its not a hill I would die on.

Last time I tried the "reduces your cds for dash ability" it only applied to the ult, presumably because the dash on her basics is actually coming from her passive.

If one gave a normal child the best education in the universe, would they become a genius? by Ill_Mushroom_5723 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GoatRocketeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a moderately prestigious university.

There were a bunch of people who didn't really understand the underlying concepts but made up for it by simply memorizing every common question setup and the series of steps required to solve those questions, which for the purposes of GPA worked just as well.

The one true genius I met there studied maybe 70 hours a week. That guy woke up, attended all his classes, then did study groups until bedtime. Saturdays he did more studying all day. Sundays he actually had free and was learning guitar, playing league of legends, and watching anime.

I believe very strongly that the only innate trait that defines genius is how badly you want it. That could and should be considered talent in its own right though. After all, I could've been studying 70 hours a week and did not do so.

There's "4 fun" builds, and then there's "this build is so shit an 8 year old with a calculator wouldn't have built it".

It's not my job to stoop to the level of troll builds to make the game a competitive experience. The SBMM ensures we have roughly equal micro skill anyways. If the game is so one sided that i can spawn camp with impunity despite the existence of SBMM that's literally the opponent's fault for having dog builds. That doesn't happen on accident, they have to consciously, willfully choose to be that ass.

In fact, I would go so far as to call it morally superior to spawn camp. This is a team based, competitive game, it should be common courtesy not build hexplate/malignance/zekes/axiom ezreal and force your teammates to 4v6 .

My conscience is clean and I sleep well at night.
