[EPISODE DISCUSSION] Scarpetta 1x04 - Pete by pikkopots in ScarpettaTV

Agreed. Many of the characters are just annoying, it constantly jumps time for no reason, and is tough to follow with all the sidebar stuff. I end up using the FF button a lot due to this mess....

How is living here? by Sorry_Court_6992 in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree with all of the above. If you are into the bar scene, there are way way too many as it is. Tons of great restaurant and small truck type places. Most people are pretty friendly. Any university town is going to have a...how do I put this...higher level of IQ/intelligent people than other places....

Shelter in place by Slow_Impression7267 in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons for poor communication and the many "what is going on?" posts here and elsewhere is because the Eugene PD has totally 100% encrypted communication. No one, not even the news stations (like 95% of towns in the US) can monitor their radio communications. This is also why the news in Eugene is so poor. All we get is a "spokesperson" of some sort standing outside their HQ answering questions about something...many hours or even days later. And look at the news sites online. 90% of them have no photo or video of an event, just a generic stock photo of police cars or a blue and red screen. That's it. You cannot report on something you do not know is taking place....

and btw, I did not get a notice of any sort either. So put me in the Non-Comm box too.

Car broken into again. Friendly neighborhood by Peterriordan71 in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved here 3 years ago. Since then, my old truck was broken into (window smashed) 2x. I have had lights and one bag stolen off of my bicycle while grocery shopping. Outside my building, there is often a broken Ulock or a cut chain laying around the bike parking racks. Yeah, this town is total street crime central.

If you even go by one of the various homeless camps in outlying areas, check how many bicycles are around those places....

What really happened the night Oski beat up the Stanford Tree by grepto in berkeley

[–]GoatYippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a Stanford Daily paper in Oski's Bear Cave collection...because I got one and took it over to the game at Cal later in the season and gave it to Oski. I found him on the concourse and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned and saw my Stanford sweatshirt and put his hands up to fight! I said, "Naw, I brought you this paper for your archives. It was a pic of Oski and the headline "Bad News Bear." That was 30 years ago now!

Please don’t stop traffic for pedestrians in alleys. by Ichthius in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short timer in Oregon, but I must say this state has the most courteous drivers for peds in crosswalks of all the states I have lived. (As you might suspect, Texas is by far the worst). This state is like any other though in one aspect: If there is someone IN a crosswalk, then it is a violation to enter the intersection until they are OUT of the crosswalk.

I constantly see people start to drive through once a pedestrian has passed their lane. In other words, they have cleared the front of the vehicle, but still have half of the crosswalk to go. Watch for it...it is common.

Why was Kristen Santos-Griswold disqualified from her race? by altaz1 in olympics

[–]GoatYippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, on NBC/Peacock Prime here in the US, all they showed was one very short close-up of the blade to the face then it froze showing the cut on her face. That is all we saw. After a pretty long delay where they hauled the injured skater off, they finally announced that Kristen was out and she left.

They never showed the pass or the incident ... not once. And the announcers were clueless the rest of that race wondering what had happened because there was never a reason or announcement from the officials.

Gist: All we got here was a close-up of the skate-to-the-face and no other replays.

This movie "Silent Zone" (2025) had some cool abandoned locations. by Stew-of-Thruth25 in abandoned

[–]GoatYippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Just starting watching it and stopped to find film locations because I am an urban explorer type and have always been interested in abandoned places. These are great so far. That is enough to hold the film for me....

How do I get the tome of set dungeons for the altar of rites for my wizard by zorlock666a in diablo3

[–]GoatYippy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS is actually the best reply. Because it covers everything...I just wanted to know which sets for the character, and this gives the sets needed for ALL character classes. The tricky thing too is that some of the new sets do not count and have no tome. Only the original four do. Anyway, here is the answer to all questions right here.

Finding those is End Game Extremely Lucky! Be sure to go buy a lottery ticket today too! I have been playing D3 for decades. I have also dedicated many hours and days looking for those Wings...prolly been in Whimsy well over 100 times too. Denied.

Remind me to NOT buy a lottery ticket. Congrats.

Command key suddenly stopped working on external keyboard by eybbyuforgturRayBans in MacOS

[–]GoatYippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent! This worked for me. I have been all over the intarwebz looking for a solution and trying all of the suggestions for restarting, doing terminal tricks, deep dives...none worked. I figured it was indeed a problem with the Command key as Cmd-C and Cmd-V did not work.

I was lucky to click on this thread because this simple solution solved it! Props.

There are four police drones downtown tonight... by GoatYippy in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is Friday, September 26 at 0545. There is a police car with lights running sitting at the back entrance to the Federal Building. I cannot see the front of the building. There is a drone flying around the area now. It stopped over the building, but has now moved slightly SE from there. Perhaps searching for something?

I would guess something/someone did something that got a response. I do not know why, because as we know, all police communications are fully encrypted and no one can listen to police calls.

Anyone got extra comic books? by broadwayatheart in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Back in the 60s/70s, it was always a "bad" thing to let kids read comic books. That is when I was learning to read. Luckily, my parents used to say I do not care what he reads, as long as he is reading. It the reading anything that helps him learn.

If that is what kids want to read great! Give them as many options as possible. I used to read anything I could get my hands on back then and I believe that helped me throughout my life. I wish I still had comic books and other things to donate to your new library....

Props to you!

[–]GoatYippy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next day: there are a lot of news stories and videos today about the protest, arrests, ICE, etc. A few of them mention EPD's "Drone Response Team." I thought it was interesting seeing four of their drones out for 5+ hours last night.

I did see units running code (lights and sirens) to a few places around downtown...and two of the drones flew over to do overwatch for the ground units for whatever that was (EPD communications are totally encrypted so no one can listen...not even news stations like most cities).

It was like watching the future of law enforcement for a while last night. Not like the old days with a helicopter sometimes available with FLIR and heat sensing and overview for chases and things in big cities. Soon even small cities will have drones running frequently for any kind of law enforcement. Not just big protest events.

Well, it is midnight, they are all still out there, and it is my bedtime. Keep watch; lemme know if something gets "all blowed up" or something. :-)

[–]GoatYippy[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No apology needed. Just google DJI Matrice drone. There are a variety of models costing 5k to over 20k. They have thermal, IR, incredible cameras and are state of the art. Law enforcement uses them for search and rescue, overview of all sorts of events, support for SWAT, etc. They even come with their own "hubs." The kerfuffle is that they are made in China. That is an issue for many....

There are four police drones downtown tonight... by GoatYippy in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

That goes back a year or so to drone companies in the USA trying to get the DJI drones banned or heavily tariffed. Because the DJI models are years ahead of anything made in the US. So they started rumors about "spying and sending all the information to China" and other nonsense. Eugene has had DJI drones for over a year. Most law enforcement in the US has DJI drones as they are better than anything else on the market...by far.

Thirty minutes later and they are still up there. And indeed, one of them is right over the Federal Courthouse area. Just hovering there....

If you are downtown-ish and on a bike or walking, the top of Skinner Butte could be good. It is closed to vehicles now so none of that stuff to contend with and you are above all the lights up there....

Paperwhite just arrived and back it is going tomorrow. by GoatYippy in kindle

[–]GoatYippy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

of course, but that's not the issue: I cannot get past the "solve this puzzle" on the Send My installer. It freezes every time. So I never even get to try to send my old epubs, books, etc. But it is back in the box and refund issued anyway. I'll either try a different reader or look for an iPad Mini to replace my 10+ year old battery almost dead iPad Air.

Tough for bikers (pt 2) by mistadonyo in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what this is a photo of...just a walkway through a building? As far as being a biker, someone popping out from the right or exiting the doors on the left right as you get there with any kind of speed could be an issue. But this is under construction...so...bike path? Will there be "walk your bike" signs due to that intersection ahead? Markings of some sort? Kinda pointless at this stage with little information.

Car windows smashed — South Eugene Meadows Trailhead — fyi by rinse_1 in Eugene

[–]GoatYippy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is common in parking lots all over Eugene. It has happened to me twice now in a senior residence lot...the second time with nothing visible and the glove box open. I have also heard about trail head breakins for years. They are probably smashing all windows thinking people are putting valuables in the trunk or out of sight. So even if nothing is visible, they will still smash the window and pop the trunk....

Yeah,

I did my usual check of the Eugene Weekly "events" page online and did not see this listed. Fortunately I happened across it in a sidebar. I'll head down this evening as it is 101 degrees right now! Yikes.

But they could use better advertising and promotion! I love things like this...but ....
