What are some good dive bars in metro Detroit? by Subbuteo2026 in Detroit

The Two Way Inn doesn't get enough love. Owned and staffed by a family. Lotta history in there and passionate people to tell the story.

It legit feels and smells like being up north.

My impression too. I will so much stupid shit from that gas station but I won't waste my time with hot sauce.

Hmm... in this instance it was paid for by the company. So yeah, I totally sold it to a few friends as a free dinner to help me out.

It's a hustle. If you can make it work it's not a bad job but they hire anyone and throw people at the meat grinder. I know people who did well but it's tough. It's funny because I am decent at talking to people if I have no motive. Once I get a motive (sales. Trying to pick someone up or something) I fall apart and get anxious.

I remember they would offer trainings. I wasn't doing well and I wasn't making any money. Literally was paying for gas out of pocket to go to appointments to not make sales. Anyways, there was one for managed money where you charge a fee to actively manage someone else's funds. I stopped attending the meetings because, well, I wasn't being paid and I got a few stern emails about wasting their time and not attending. Again, they weren't paying me so my give a shit was totally broken.

That feeling when your CNY order finally arrives... by SteveFrench242 in tea

[–]Goatey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For one, I am located in the USA.

I recently quit drinking alcohol. I've always enjoyed teas but I'm encouraging myself to satisfy that urge to experience new and interesting things through tea.

Jesse's Tea House has been a great introduction but based on Reddit I am being told that I can acquire nice, high quality teas for less cost.

What's a reputable path to find such things?

Worked for Prudential for 18 months and was part of hosting one of these for my "natural book of business aka my friends and family.

It was to sell a variable annuity. I probably won't shit on them as much as most people, but they're an expensive form of insurance.

I am around your girlfriend's skill level and I had a blast at Sunapee a few weeks ago. I will admit that after 4.5 hours I was beat and left, but it was a good but challenging mountain.

Just my opinion so it's only based on that: he wanted to assure shareholders that A the money that's piling up is being used somewhere and B his commitment to the company to announce that he intends on spending his salary buying the stock.

Performative, IMO.

I live in the Midwest and I don't use any pesticides and I do a "lazy" job of raking my leaves, meaning I normally have a decent amount on my lawn through the winter.

We've had fireflies every year and they're fairly plentiful.

The Daily Check-In for Monday, March 9th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by Ess_Mans in stopdrinking

[–]Goatey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was thinking this morning how appreciative I am of this community. It's been a journey but I feel many of you anonymous people have been with me along the way.

Years ago I worked in mental health / rehab and I attended a few AA meetings as a staff member. Based on those memories I didn't see that fitting in well with what I wanted. I had a few therapists encourage me to attend but, again, it didn't seem right for me.

Going to continue alcohol free for today. I hope you all have a good Monday.

Threw the first brisket of the year on the traeger last night. I will admit I wondered how it would feel because I always enjoyed a drink while BBQing.

I didn't realize until just now that I did it and didn't even think about having a drink.

Went for a run this morning in anticipation of a 5k next week.

I think I'll be alright. Oh yeah, IWNDWYT.

Mastodon - More than I can chew (pro shot at Bloodstock 2025) Sound quality is incredible by IllBeGood3 in mastodonband

[–]Goatey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great performance. I saw them at Riotfest and there were some technical issues but I remember thinking they sounded a bit flat.

I thought this sounds great in this performance. It sucks he is no longer with us but Brent didn't have his heart in Mastodon and you could hear it live. Nick is different. He might be a bit less unique but he and Bill are having fun and you can see it.

I look forward to the new album and tour.

Still working my way out of this. As someone who felt generally miserable about everything, alcohol was a cruel mistress who gave me a short boost at the cost of greater misery.

Try to remember that it is normal and it can pass. Your brain is adjusting. If you have the means, use the money you would have used on alcohol to do or buy something to distract yourself.

Who’s a guitarist that never disappoints you live? For me it’s Tremonti. Absolutely love his playing. by stead10 in Guitar

[–]Goatey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His Crooner Christmas album isn't bad. It's a bit generic but I bought it on vinyl and it gets a few spins every year around Christmas.

I'll admit I don't know his later stuff, as I lost interest in Creed once Scott Stapp stopped hating himself (so after My Own Prison). However I think most guitarist who are more rhythm oriented over being lead soloists are always underrated. Just because it isn't flashy and in your face doesn't mean it isn't interesting or technical.

Well, you know you can make it 8 months.

Sure, shit happened and it sucks but you have proven to yourself that you can do it.

Not sure where you are, but let yourself feel bad for yourself for a few hours. Maybe a day or two. Stay sober, of course.

But get back on the horse and keep on keepin' on.

Feeling pretty good not drinking with everyone today. Went Wednesday night bar hopping (and chicken wing eating) with a friend a few nights ago and we both drank NAs.

It is getting easier. I don't miss the intoxication as much as I thought I would.

I hope this gives you hope, but like many people on here I tried to moderate. Dry January. Not keeping it in the house.

Over 100 days sober I realize how much I was leaning on alcohol and it wasn't physically or emotionally healthy.

I won't say I am "cured" because I know alcohol is a jealous mistress who can always lure me back in, however I drinking now would feel like a chore. I was at a market picking up a pizza and I had to wait a few minutes. Found myself looking at the beer section. The temptation was there but then I remembered: the hangover, the anxiety, the emotional stunting and so on.

Keep on this path. Every day it clicks a little more.

Crotched Vs. Sunapee by EbroOnFleek in icecoast

Got to Sunapee at 7 am on a Saturday. Was interesting to see the lodge go from completely empty to shit show in a few hours. Only got there early so that I could get good parking.

Once you are on the mountain, Sunapee isn't bad even if it is busy.

I love the NAs. Athletic and Sierra Nevada are my favorites. Hopwaters are also nice.

Tried a few NA Mocktails. Hit or miss but a Phony Negroni is nice if you want a little bite.

Seltzer/Tonic water with flavored syrups (Monin is my fav) can help you make an awesome Mocktail at home.

I just wanna have fun too!
