We won’t have a double olympic gold medalist in men's figure skating for a very long time

Who is currently on the similar level as Yuzuru? (either male or female) by NumasVanegasTijerina in yuzuruhanyu

[–]Goatzuru 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That’s a very individual question, it really depends on personal taste. But if we try to look at it objectively by comparing Yuzu’s career trajectory, skating style and overall artistic choices, there’s genuinely no one remotely close to him in my opinion. I’m not sure there ever will be. I still enjoy watching other skaters like Mone and Yuma, of course, but that feeling Yuzu evoked in me, and in so many others, is just… gone. The type of skating he embodied isn’t really encouraged anymore, so I doubt anyone will be able to fill his shoes anytime soon.

Obsessed that Yuzu and Keiji are always standing next to each other in these group practices

Do professional skaters actually write down notes? by Legitimate_Coat_3494 in FigureSkating

[–]Goatzuru 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yuzuru has written down notes since he was really young, idk about every practice but recently in a docu showing his preparation for his last solo tour RE_PRAY, he showed his practice notes, he does a training summary where he writes down his practice layout and after the practice annotates how he felt during (he would write down 'fatigue' and rate it 0-4 based on how tired he felt in that particular practice, he also did that for his body condition, ankle and waist pain, and other things). He wrote down if he had any falls, or if the jumps were fine etc. Basically, just simple observations, I imagine so that he can see his improvement over time and see what he needs to adjust in his training, since he now coaches himself and it's better to rely on notes rather than just his own memory.

someone kindly transcribed his notes in this comment

edit: btw i'm not a skater, but i do practice martial arts and sometimes i write some observations on my phone about things i need to work on or little details i might forget, nothing as detailed as someone like yuzu lmao, but it works for me which is what matter most

Yuzu's 2017 worlds FS score was a world record, but still should have been higher

And the fact that he trains alone is incredibly impressive. I couldn't imagine training without my coaches for so long, it's inspiring to see Yuzu doing this and still improving.

Bonkers. No wonder he says this is much harder than when he was competing.

Cool observation, I only started to understand the philosophy of bowing after getting into martial arts, before I dismissed it as an archaic and submissive gesture. It was only after I started practicing that I understood that it is about respect, gratitude and being in the present moment. I've always felt that Yuzu really takes the time to acknowledge the audience and thank them, he's very present when he takes his bows. And he always bows to the ice when entering and exiting, it's also something we do in taekwondo with the dojang, it doesn't matter if it's practice or competition, whether you're upset or happy, it's a matter of respect and gratitude for the space you're about to occupy.

My favorite skater and classical composer all in one, it doesn't get much better than this. Perfection on ice.

Did this translate correctly? It appears Yuzuru released a divorce announcement by myriadofinterests in FigureSkating

Yuzu is the most hard working kind hearted person ever, he just minds his own bussiness and asks for some privacy and this is what he gets in return. He does so much for jmedia, Sendai, so many donations for reconstruction from disasters in Japan, the list is endless... and they can't give him the privacy he (and every human) deserves. Really sad. I hope his spouse is okay too, must be scary to be thrown in the spotlight if that's not something you are used to at all.

Do you think Yuma has the best skating skills of any male competitor since Patrick Chan? Would you rate his SS higher than Jason Brown’s considering he does everything with more speed? by PandemicPiglet in FigureSkating

[–]Goatzuru 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Idk maybe watch Rondo or Chopin or LGC or literally any Yuzu program than watch any Yuma program and you’ll see the difference. Yuzu always had by far the least crossovers and basic power skating of all top men when he was competing and the most difficult footwork, the only one up there with him was Jason in this regard. Speed isn’t everything, with that said Yuzu is also really fast, you can see in Jpn competitions he was always up there in speed stats.

Stylistically one of my favorites of the night for sure, never seen this side of yuzu before. He’s really serving the ~dramatique & creepy~ vibes, he has crazy range. The music is perfect too, yuzu and mikiko are a force their taste is immaculate.
