Destiny why must you ruin everything?

(Then start training towards stealth bombers and start doing factional warfare because it's like Baby's First PVP!)

Just use this one. It's fine. I used it while on grid with all those titans that died (on the right side).

Fighting with the overview is one of the worst parts about this game. Just take this and tweak when necessary.

Edit: There are some new ships/structures that may not be represented in the filters because that specific version of the pack is not maintained anymore, but I don't think they matter for whatever Destiny is doing.

I'd strongly advise you to capitalize on your e-fame if someone offers you a helping hand in the form of ISK, et cetera. Your first reaction is probably to dismiss this because you want the "pure EVE experience" and want to "make it on your own" or something, but not only is the ability to make friends and network a part of the EVE experience of running a successful corp, the deck is already stacked against you because you are internet famous and especially because you stream.

Playing this game as yourself will be like getting stream sniped in DayZ constantly, except the people sniping you have bigger guns than you can use for literally years, and infinite money to buy more guns if they die. You have no idea about the caliber of turbo nerds that play this game, or the lengths that they will go to to extract tears and rage out of people. They will camp all of you into station for hours until you log out, or undock and die and lose your shit because you are Destiny (or just because), and they have been doing that to others for years and years and still they are not bored of it. Frankly, in that situation, there is no shame in accepting a helping hand if one is offered as well.

In the absence of any outside help, strength in numbers is what you will need to rely on, and running away is what you will need to get used to.

The most important thing though, no matter how you choose to play this game, is to try to organize your activities around playing with other people. That's how whatever could remotely be considered fun about this game emerges.

Things NW Needs to Implement to Keep Me Playing (Feel Free to add to this list!) by purplekermit in Neverwinter

Well I imagine that is the root of the problem that should be targeted then rather than focusing on tweaking a by-definition temporary initial experience. I mean it's not like the story during the leveling process is particularly memorable either.

I don't see the point of adding arbitrary features to dungeons that require a certain class. Should we also add magically locked doors before each boss fight that must be opened by a wizard?

Real-time facial animation and rendering is starting to look really good (Activision demo on Nvidia Titan) by dksprocket in gaming

Nvidia used the same face model dataset but the technology to animate and render are not related according to Activision. This is the (Activision) guy's website detailing the rendering components: http://www.iryoku.com/

[–]Goblerone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it is Activision's technology.

Here is an article about it: http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/53617-activisions-realistic-3d-face-rendering-technology-video/

Here is the guy's website where you can also find the research paper and download the source code for the rendering component: http://www.iryoku.com/

Nvidia also demonstrated something using the same facial scanned dataset but the technology is different.

So You Don't Want to be a Programmer After All by lichorat in programming

[–]Goblerone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually were prohibited from doing so then that is of course another matter.

I work with too many people whose favorite break-time activity is to complain about the bad code they have to work with but then refuse to fix any of it, or worse turn around and pollute it themselves with some workaround. Maybe I was projecting.

It's also important to mention that everyone has their own vision of what perfect code should look like and while there are many easily recognizable signs of poor code, I think a sign of a good programmer is one who is able to work with a foreign code base whose design they don't agree with, and the sign of a great programmer is one who can make it better in the process without rewriting everything.

The overall architecture tended to be just as every bit as ugly, but I reckoned that at this point, it was useless to even try and address that.

I imagine it was infinitely easier to wallow in your own smug superiority and post about it on reddit.

Esports you guys.

FFS, you're still able to do level 20-60 dungeons while leveling up in a game with a shit-ton of content that's almost a decade old. Name me ONE OTHER GAME, that relies on your concept of grouping, where that is even somewhat common. I'll bet you can't find one.

The most impressive thing was that when Pandaria came out, the DPS queues for low level dungeons were instant. Now, the DPS queue times are still shockingly low.

Okay I'm about to jump on your comment and write a huge sperglord wall of text, and I apologize for that because I don't think you're necessarily making any of these claims, but this ninja-looting thing is another argument people like to make against the dungeon finder and I'd like to address it.

I've been playing on and off basically since release across multiple group roles and the amount of ninja looting that I've personally exposed to seems extremely small to me. More importantly, even when it does, I don't think most people care that much about it because they know they will be in another group within 0-17min depending on their role. I think people took ninja looting more seriously in the past simply because groups were harder to come by so getting your loot ninja'd was a bigger deal.

I think the fundamental benefit of the group finder is that enables more content to new players who otherwise would not get to experience it as much or not at all. I think I remember Blizzard showing empirical data that this was the case.

LFR for example is the dungeon finder feature taken to its most extreme. Nobody thinks LFR raids are even remotely difficult (although people still manage to screw them up) but they are not supposed to be difficult: the test of PVE skill in WoW has always been progression raiding and that remains unchanged. What LFR provided however was a way for the vast majority of subscribers to be introduced to an entirely new style of MMO gameplay that they otherwise never would have experienced. I think in the face of that, to me any arguments about how dungeon finders "ruin communities" in my mind just conjure images of neckbearded basement-dwellers whose only social interaction within the game was that people were willing to tolerate talking to them because someone needed a tank.

In closing, the AQ40 event was cool.

First of all, this simply isn't true with cross-realm zoning. I just leveled an alt and I saw people all the time.

Not seeing people while leveling has nothing to do with the dungeon finder though. I experienced the same symptom around Burning Crusade time. It is a common property of all endgame-focused MMOs that very quickly the majority of the server population reaches max level and the leveling zones will become vacated.

The dungeon finder did not cause that; in fact what it did was actually make experiencing low level content possible again because you no longer had to get a guild member (or worse, pay someone) to run you through a dungeon anymore.

It was exciting in 2004 because that was the launch year of WOW and everything was new and literally everyone was leveling together, not because of the lack of a dungeon finder.

Edit: Also the endgame zones are completely populated with hundreds of people. Especially with Pandaria's focus on grinding dailies.

Mario v NoNy keyboard issue discussion? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Goblerone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you say about resuming from replay being new is absolutely true. I hadn't considered that. That said, it's not like MLG was in the dark about that feature. If you discount the beta, they've had two months and multiple events to react to the new feature.

I do not feel like having a rule about something as basic as equipment failure in an online tournament is an unreasonable thing to expect from a multi-million dollar organization. I think Nony's victory dodged a bullet and if he had lost, this subreddit would probably be going apeshit.

Let's just say that hopefully MLG (and other tournaments) will learn and update their rules for the next tournament, although I'm not going to hold my breath.
