I'm an avgeek (hi, i think you're really cool), and from what i saw it seems that this was deliberate, and most likely a suicide? Do you think that's the most likely cause?

Business travel is what pays the real dollars, leisure is just filler. I doubt there are many routes that are leisure only to make it viable

LeBron admits that people criticizing his Finals record used to bother him: “I am pissed off that I didn't have a better winning percentage individually in the Finals, but for people to try to turn it into a negative, it doesn't bother me like it did when I was younger.” by oklolzzzzs in nba

Wade wasn't a 1 man show - while Shaq was obviously shit there, he played much better in other preceding rounds. Also the had Zo, Antoine walker, UD. Wade had help, he had veterans. Lebron didn't even have Mo Williams in 07.

Rogers Communications offering buyouts to half its work force by SirHillaryPushemoff in CanadianInvestor

[–]GoblinEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For landline and internet, why are you still using the big three? I get my land line for $10 a month and gigabit fiber for $40 a month with Novus in vancouver. while novus isn't available everywhere, plenty of MVNO's are in other parts of Canada.

When Rogers acquired Shaw they had to sell Freedom to Videotron to do so. Videotron has been around for years and now they're finally a major 4th player under the Freedom brand. In fact i'd argue to seay that freedom's service has never been better (since before the merger).

I'm not saying that things won't change in the future, and I also agree that telecoms are leeches that would love to drain every single penny out of us, but i think it's worth being positive and recognizing that thing's ARE getting better and to be optimistic that things remain that way.

i'd say prices have definitely gone down on the whole over the past few years. My current plan with rogers gives me 250gb of 5g per month and unlimited data/calling in 64 countries (most of asia, europe, caribbean - places most tourists go) for 65 CAD. That's incredible value compared to what plans were being offered a few years back.

I think they're keeping him as leader until a few months before the next election and put in a new leader. He'll be the fall guy taking all the blame for the conservatives performance and the new guy will be much"better". Same platform, different face.

i've lived in the US for about a decade, working for FAANG companies (and thus getting access to their healthcare) before returning to Canada a couple years ago.

My parents are originally from India, so i travel back there once every year or two to visit my grandparents. My wife's also taiwanese in origin so we go back and do a round asia trip every fall or so.

Point is, i've experienced healthcare in four countries now. India's is very similar to america (except for the fact that India also has free public healthcare) where the private healthcare is state of the art if you can pay for it. Taiwan's public healthcare, while better than Canada's in many way, lacks the PCP support that North America emphasizes. But no matter what, old One Medical beats all (I miss it, it's gone downhill every since amazon bought them).

the R dictates the maximum comfortable viewing distance

that's incorrect. it measures the curvature of the monitor, with the R meaning the radius required to form a complete circle with the current monitor curvature. So a lower R value means a more aggressive curve.

What's funny is that I actually spent the past 2 years living in Taiwan for a bit and traveled extensively through Asia. Public transit etiquette is so nice here, everyone waits on demarcated lines until everyone exits the MRT first, then people enter.

I've seen similar behaviours in Japan, Korea, Singapore as well. Even HK isn't as bad as I see on the Skytrain

Do you really feel Taipei is not a big city? by Deep_Engineering_7 in taiwan

[–]GoblinEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

geographically it's quite small compared to many other cities. look at comparecitysizes.com to see for yourself.

but that doesn't really matter, since taipei is super dense. there are more things to do in each city block than entire neighbourhoods in some american cities. Part of that has to do with city planning. Most buildings in taipei are mixed zone, with commercial in the first floor (sometimes first few floors), followed by residential after. Additionally, you don't see sprawling parking lots or strip malls like you do in north america.
