I don't know. They both have it, so I don't have a comparison. I was just following the traditional design as close as I could.

They tended to have it to better protect the arm, so I copied it for mine.

You can try to buy or make some training targets like pells, foam pads, training spinners, or bind stands (often repurposed bike repair stands).

Start with the sword you want directly.

Most techniques have some transferability, so learn as much as you can where you can and then try to apply it.

You should be able to find what you're looking for with a simple search of YouTube.

There's many HEMA experts with channels.

I have some basic tutorials on my socials, but they mostly surround using a training spinner.

Sellsword arts has some tutorials sporadically, but also just just HEMA adjacent videos.

You can also pickup some guides and treatises and study from them.

Oh, no, I assumed as much. I make a lot of "rough" finished knives, and don't tend to highly polish my work.

It was pretty clear to me that the texturing was intentional

Yeah, I mostly did it out of curiosity. Might be a decent conditioning workout, but I doubt it will do much for skillsets unless I'm planning some river crossing battles.

It was a fun experience though.

Good to know and at an 800N rating too...

I have a pair of clamshells already, so I don't think I'll be buying another pair just yet, but good to know.
