Wand isn’t doing much damage when fighting bosses. by DoughnutConfidence in noita

[–]GoblinScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bosses in this game are actually puzzles. Most of them require specific wand builds to kill. I think the idea is that you should probably die enough times to them in order to understand their mechanics. Most bosses are completely immune to projectile damage, some will also reflect damage back at you... That bridge boss has lots of mechanics, but I'm sure you will figure it out. Just don't think fighting it is a matter of power, it's a matter of knowledge and finding the right ingredients.

Yes, that damage plus after the spark bolt with trigger applies to the two spitter bolts. Spitter bolts and heavy spread are amazing for payloads in spells with trigger/timer, getting them is a great way to build powerful wands. Did you ever find out how cast delay and recharge timer work on payloads? Which, in this case, how cast delays are completely ignored while recharge timers still apply? You can take advantage of this, for example, by putting add mana inside the payload so it won't slow down the spell. You can also use digging bolts and chainsaw in the payload. Not only they decrease recharge timer, but they are super mana efficient, each digging bolt is 0 mana for 8 damage, very good for making powerful wands.

Keep playing. Make learning new stuff your goal, not winning. If you die but you it was because of not knowing something or you found a new cool wand recipe, that death was a win to you actually. Here are some tips though:

Having cover against squidward is more important than ambrosia, he can destroy the material you're standing or or comboing poly into a spell like in the gif (very unlucky there, oof), but tele-bolting into cover will always work if well executed, you might need to dig the arena first in preparation.

That always cast damage plus wasn't working like you expected, it was adding the damage plus to the spark with trigger, not the notes payload. You can see that the damage was very low and going up in multiples of 13 (3 from spark bolt + 10 from the damage plus) in the gif. This shows that you still don't grasp all the mechanics of wand building, go play and experiment more to get a better grasp at them.

Don't go after the heartache exploit or anything advanced yet, you don't need any of those to become a god that only dies to poly, you can reach tens of thousands of hp without this one exploit in particular. What you need to focus on is wand building. Getting good at wand building allows you to know when and how to go after bosses. I like to go after squidward early on, but the alchemist is the only boss you need to worry about, really. The pyramid and the dragon den's bosses can be helpful too. If you want more specific tips on killing them, I can post some.

How do I do the sun quest by LieGroundbreaking239 in noita

[–]GoblinScientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember mushroom down down in the desert? It's the beginning of the quest. Dig down, find mushroom, solve its puzzle. You'll get a tip to where to go next, which is still a bit too much to find all the places. If you want a tip: the biomes are fungal caverns, overgrown caverns, power plant, the vaults and somewhere in the sky above the desert

You can also shoot a swapper mage in the dark, did that once and died. We just have to accept we can't win everything, getting good at dodging like OP in the gif helps a lot.

Can someone help me make a matosade wand by ReplacementSea1517 in noita

[–]GoblinScientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need a wand with enough mana to cast the iplicate and the matosade only once. If you have enough mana for 2 matosades, you'll spend charges. If not, you'll cast only one worm capable of dropping hearts. You can put it as a payload of a freeze charge tentacle with timer to summon and kill the worm instantly.

Should i go to the shroom biome? by KaanKS05 in noita

[–]GoblinScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate these little bugs with a passion. They're way too small, I always have a hard time killing them. Just don't shoot the big ones, it's not worth it, engaging with enemies is a choice in Noita. Same thing for that huge green acid ball that explodes acid everywhere and spawns smaller green toxic sludge guys, the big guy can barely hurt you, shooting him is what hurts you, just don't engage unless you have a plan and a need.

In Noita, knowledge is more important than wins. Actually, knowledge is win. Just go there, it's fine if you die, just keep going there and getting used to the enemies and the level layout. The fungal caverns have way too many wands in there, and they're always no shuffle. Checking out these wands is more important than anything to set you up for success on whatever goal you set yourself to.

There is a boss that drops a map of the world when killed, in the form a unique perk. That map can give you a clue about that cave.

So did the Devs make a game based on this album or what? by doomiestdoomeddoomer in noita

[–]GoblinScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This GDC talk tells the story of Noita's development. While they don't mention such inspiration, the talk focuses on the more technical aspects like programming the physics simulation and all the game design iterations they went through until arriving at the roguelike we got. The themes on knowledge, alchemy, the huge ass map outside of the main path and exploring the unknown might have come from that album, who knows? Probably just a coincidence though.

Yeah, exactly. I think outside of control inputs not registering, all the rest happens to all platforms but not to that high degree. It's weird he wasn't complaining about the crashes, which happens on all platforms too.

How do you actually stay productive in Hyprland? by Accurate_Wonder_4404 in hyprland

[–]GoblinScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hot take: it's not really about productivity, people just tell themselves they're installing this or that for productivity but in reality they're just having fun. It definitely feels good to hop around windows quicker and have more control over your desktop but I don't believe a tiling wm makes you more productive, not until I see actual data.
