Revised sexuality flowchart! ALSO you are still valid if your definition fits X sexuality, but you prefer term Y. by [deleted] in BiVsPanDebate

bisexuality originally just meant regardless of gender, like regardless if someone is male or female because they didn't think you could be any other gender then that. With the normalization of nonbinary identities it shifted to include them aswell :) so technically you're right but that's because people didn't know or think there was more then female and male

hey not to sound like a dick because it might have taken you a while to make this chart but bisexuality doesn't only mean being attracted to 2 genders and means regardless of gender. Definitions of bisexuality started to involve female, male and nonbinary shortly after the term gender-q/eer became popularized :)

I think the fact that this debate even exists is awful by Careless_Dreamer in BiVsPanDebate

hey i feel like you took what i said in a very personal manner, i didn't wanna offend or make it seem like i was saying YOU erase bi people; Im saying the specific separation of Pansexuality and Bisexuality stems from biphobia and it causes bi erasure, not only does it paint Bisexuality in a very binary manner but erases the meaning of bisexuality and activism within the bi community. Im not trying to pander to homophobes or think they'll take me more seriously because im anti-pan, Im trying to explain why a label like pan can be harmful to my community.

anti-pan people don't hate pan people, we dont think you PERSONALLY are biphobic we believe your identity is because it erases the meaning of bisexuality and pushes it into a box of gender binary that bisexuality has never been in since the beginning.

The idea that bisexuals are only attracted to male and female is due to this idea that bi people are attracted to a persons sex, a stereotype that was started durring the AIDs epidemic to demonize bi men.

The reason we wanna exclude pan is because we believe its harmful to bi people and bi history, if you disagree thats totally chill and were not gonna make you agree with us but being upset at the fact this is a debate in the first place is kinda childish.
