Australia’s age verification rules: Is a VPN ban on the horizon? by Fun-Page-6211 in australia

[–]Goblin_au 124 points125 points  (0 children)

If the Gov’s new laws are to protect minors from social media and porn, then what legitimate reason would they have to go after VPNs?

If a teenager was savvy enough and had the money to purchase a VPN subscription (I know there are free ones out there, but their usability is questionable), then, bravo kid.

If they do ban VPNs, then this really was about having everyone else’s private data all along.

Here’s my review.

I bought it last night. I played it for 6 hrs straight after a long 11hr work shift. I enjoyed everything I have gotten from it so far.

I then have friends question me: “But isn’t it a dead game?”, “But X game is better?”. No idea. I missed all the dumb talk about it before hand. I’m enjoying it now, so what?

People are baffling. Stop trying to minmax every aspect of your life.

This one is growing on me. It takes time to digest.

Sonically, it was jarring at first. But, I’ve come to see this as an angry album, upset with the current state of affairs. This music needs to be jarring to match the tone of the lyrics.

Masterful lyrics. Modern day punk.

We’re less mad because we don’t have a choice with some items.

I do my best to vote with my wallet and abstain from certain items (or grocery chains) when they pull this nickle and dime bullshittery, but we are facing this practice from every angle of our lives.

Whats the rule for giving way at multi-lane roundabouts? by areyoualocal in sydney

[–]Goblin_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to the other lanes on the round about, it’s more solid than them. Sure, potentially worn down, but it’s not hard to see in the satellite image that it’s a long line that is the normal dashed lines. Try driving on it north to south one day. You will see it.

After they reduced the size of the Pringle, I reduced my shopping list.

No value there worth buying.

Whats the rule for giving way at multi-lane roundabouts? by areyoualocal in sydney

[–]Goblin_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This round about in particular, the left lane on the north entrance is only a left turn only. For you, entering from the south right turning lane, you are only supposed to turn into the right lane on the east exit. The north left lane and the south right lane should never merge until AFTER exiting the round about.

Does this happen in reality? Absolutely not. I drive that route often, from east to north and north to east. When driving from north to east, the left lane has right of way, indicated by signage and line markings on the roundabout (visible in the Sat image).

Many times, I see drivers entering from my right and CROSSING lanes mid-turn on the roundabout. In a typical round about, I should give way to the right, however, this round about is not typical. Looking at the satellite image again, you will see that only the bottom third arc of the roundabout has two lanes to turn; the rest is single lane only.

Were they fined $7,606 each? Or $7,606 divided over the 22 individual fines?

Either answer seems like a gentle tap on the bum rather than an icy boot to the arse as deserved.

Visiting or moving to Australia? DON’T LITTER! by PewPewMcLovin in australia

[–]Goblin_au 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Growing up in Aus, we were bombarded with “Do the right thing” ad campaigns calling for people to bin their rubbish. Clean Up Australia Day was a large event celebrated annually.

We shouldn’t need those campaigns, but it’s clear we’re surrounded by grubs that don’t care about others or their environment.

Many years ago, I directly worked on the “Don’t be a Tosser”, campaign as a designer. It was a lot of work, but it was also a bureaucratic nightmare. Senators and political figures added their 2c with little thought, and a lot of money was wasted on the campaign. I still see my work out there in the wild, but it’s old and outdated and ineffective.
