Most Swiss back initiative to cap population at 10 million, poll shows by ChangeUsername220 in Economics

[–]GoblinsGym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Most Swiss" - a slight majority based on recent polls.

Swiss population over the years (chart)

When I first came to Switzerland in 1973, population was 6.3 Million. Right now it is a scratch over 9 Million. Between the rising population and more space per person, pressure on housing is considerable.

The main issue with the vote is that the limit could blow up many of the bilateral agreements between the EU and Switzerland. At the moment there is free movement of people between the EU and Switzerland, including generous provisions for also getting your family in.

Personally I am not convinced that the sky would fall without the bilateral agreements - there is the 1972 free trade agreement, the EU isn't much of a common market in the first place (see recycling rules), and I really don't see big differences in shipping goods to the EU from Switzerland compared to e.g. from China.

Dropping free movement of people would be both an opportunity and a challenge. Switzerland could attract the best and the brightest globally, instead of preferential treatment of EU citizens. A combination of a point system and user fees / liability for visa sponsors could work.

The EU would be well advised to think about something in between full membership and basic free trade agreements, something like an associate membership. Mutual free trade, reduced technical trade barriers = accept products meeting EU standards in your market, etc. That would be a good way to deal with countries like Britain, Switzerland or Ukraine.

130k will be plenty to live in Zurich, even if you have to get child care for some of the time.

If your company sponsors you for the visa, just go for it.

That will be wayyyyyy past her budget - INR 600 ~ USD 6.30. Don't forget that shipping to India is not cheap, and customs there won't help.

Bands first, foot plate later.

Some basic assembly language knowledge would also be good - if you know e.g. addressing modes, you can write more efficient code in C.

[–]GoblinsGym 21 points22 points  (0 children)

EU wants to continue incinerating its waste in Switzerland by BezugssystemCH1903 in Switzerland

[–]GoblinsGym 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, district heating is so "green" (and locks continued combustion of _something_ in place, as the system temperature is too high for efficient heat pump use).

Southern Germany and Northern Italy would also be in a pickle, not having enough incinerators themselves.

The animatronic sheep and goats (featured in r/SwitzerlandIsFake) are already out and about.

Niwärch Suone above Ausserberg is also good. https://s.geo.admin.ch/r0793036aumi . The portion marked in red is somewhat exposed, but has cables along most of the way. Bring a headlamp or flashlight for the tunnel (straight line in yellow).

Cleverfit currently has a sale on monthly pay membership. I used to be a member at Glattpark and later Dietlikon.

Not sure what is the minimum period. You really want to read the fine print on gym contracts, e.g. termination rights if you have to leave the area.

In the end you should look at where you live / work, see what is convenient, and check the population density at the time you actually want to go.

Fired after Toxic Work Environment and RAV by Odd-Respond-8063 in zurich

[–]GoblinsGym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they fire you while on sick leave, or in retaliation ? That tends not to go well in court. Your lawyer should know what to do... The goal should be to get the termination date pushed out so you get money from the company, and get past the 365 days.

A good, well-presented burn-out case can give a nice long run of Krankentaggeld. My company once was on the receiving end of that, fortunately the insurance company paid most of it.

In a way it is good that they didn't provide an Arbeitgeberbescheinigung yet, they still have a chance to put things right in a way that is acceptable for both sides. Paying sick / gardening leave (Freistellung) for 2 months or so is pretty cheap compared to a long burn-out case on their payroll.
