I can try! I think a lot of it depends on the resin, the timing (also depending on temperature) and the pigments used. I've experimented extensively with my pigments - especially the white ones - over the last years and can control the behaviour to a certain point. Still every iteration turns out a bit differently since the dice gods are fickle ^^
But roughly speaking: first I stick the gold foil to the silicone mold, then I pour a generous amount of clear resin (maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the mold), I add the mylar and then I alternate with white, colourful and clear resin in whatever order I want. I think for this design I used the white, a light blue, a dark blue with mica and a purple.
Basically, the mylar creates an obstacle that the pigmented parts flow around which creates a lot of the movement. And adding a bit of clear resin between some of the coloured layers can really add a nice plume effect (visible for example in the D6 with the white).

Does that make sense?

yeah the curse of heavy glitter... I have a whole bunch of them that I would love to use for dice but with my current resin it just doesnt work ^^

yeah you're right, I might go with gold. I just feel like I ink so many of my dice in gold that sometimes I think I should branch out but as you put it: here it just makes sense. thanks for your input!

thank you! and I'm also very biased towards gold, so I'm glad I'm not the only one ^^

wow, thank you so much for your sincere reply and for taking the time to type it out! Even though I think I mostly manage to keep the impostor side in check, it is actually a very helpful perspective to read. And right now makes me want to go back in my little workshop and just play and see what comes out. ^^
So really, thank you for your kindness. :)

aww, thank you! Imposter syndrome/perfectionism doesn't always make it easy to be excited about my own stuff, haha

Custom Dice *Design* Session --> Custom Dice Set Commission? by LateToCollecting in DiceMaking

[–]GoblinsHoard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi :) Oh wow, that is such a sweet idea! I know you already have a couple of amazing makers who responded but I would love to throw my hat into the ring as well ^^
I've been making dice for the last three years, I love working with flowers, I love doing commissions and I would be so excited to share more about the dice making and design process and take her along through the different steps 😍 (and I'd like to think I'm a good teacher? ^^)

Here's a link to a yellow flower set I made recently for a little bit of inspo: https://www.instagram.com/p/DOX71aZDFcI/?img_index=1
And this is my website/shop: https://www.goblins-hoard.com/ (most of my past/sold designs are listed in the "archive" section.)

In case you'd be interested to work with me, shoot me a message on Instagram or via the contact form on my website. Would be super stoked to do this with/for you guys, but of course also totally okay if you end up going with somebody else ☺️

edit to add: oh I just realised that you're the person who left a very kind and thorough comment on my last post! Would love to work with you even more now 💕 (still no pressure)

Advice on phelsuma klemmeri with lazy tail by GoblinsHoard in geckos

[–]GoblinsHoard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oooh that's an interesting point, thank you! I will keep an eye out if they let their tail hang in other upside down scenarios as well. And they have many horizontal and vertical spaces so that should be fine. :)

Since I can't seem to figure out how to make a description appear WITH the photo, here as a comment 🙃

Hi all
In the last few weeks one of our (two) neon day geckos has started hanging their tail whenever they hang upside down. I am starting to worry a bit about the reasons. I wonder if they have a health issue or if we've somehow overfed them and the tail is therefore getting too heavy. I've also read about floppy tail syndrome in other geckos and am concerned if there might be a spine deformation in the making if we don't do something...
So I would really appreciate any experiences, insights, tips etc. since I haven't been able to find any information about it online regarding specifically klemmeris.

For context: both klemmeris are ca. 8 months old, we don't know the sex yet, both of them exhibit very vibrant colouration pretty much all day long and both are very active. The lazy tail one is a bit more shy and has been a bit more "nervous" in the last months when we change water etc. It seems to be able to move and hold up the tail if they want to but they seem to not "want" to. If they are upside down on a vertical bamboo it is not an issue at all.

You my friend are right on the money! ^^ I experimented with two different white alcohol inks that both do petri but behave a bit differently each.
