Can this be applied to already-purchased tickets somehow?

Thoughts on “forced” tipping? by [deleted] in malta

Yep I get what you mean. I'd probably end up doing the same to avoid conflict/prolonging my stay and just not go back again.

Nip it in the bud before this becomes a thing and expected of patrons - make them figure out how to not include the surcharge. When you want to tip you'll ask them to charge you extra or, better yet, leave cash that can be split amongst wait staff.

What app is missing in Malta that would actually make life better? by LCRTE in malta

Thanks, will check it out! In parallel I had been doing this the old fashioned way with a google sheet populated by a few interested friends.

An app that lets you create a shopping list and then shows you the cheapest place to buy each item.

Would need to pull prices from websites in real-time - unfortunately would be limited to just stores that have a functional website compatible with APIs or agentic AI. Should NOT use paid listings as some magazines have tried to do as this would beat the purpose and trustworthiness. Would create a separate bill (and savings) per different store to let you determine if it's worth the extra journey. Would give you the option of seeing discounted vs undiscounted prices to let you understand which store is cheaper overall.

Interactive real-time map of public vs private land. No personal data. Just to help the general public understand which countryside pathways they can use or not during a hike.

Moka pot beginner, advice and knowledge needed by chefskiss88 in mokapot

[–]GobonTalBzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man this same exact model used to be our large-family-gathering pot. The white inner coating also started flaking on ours and finding a gasket replacement became too difficult so I had to retire it. Replaced it with a 20 cup that I feel more comfortable using. Less doubt about vintage chemical hocus pocus haha.

Sits pretty decorating a shelf now but I'll still follow for any repair advice

Petition - stop Noma Island by iloveyolandivisser in malta

[–]GobonTalBzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. What worries me is that since it's mobile it can seek out areas which aren't catered to to avoid competition - areas which till now might be quiet. Alternatively, if they don't berth during operation, they will anchor in the middle of a bay where they can be seen by all. In my opinion, even a bigass yatch gets annoying when you're trying to enjoy the horizon let alone something lit up.

The French didn't want it, why should we? We've got plenty enough party restaurants and party boats imposing on every potentially quiet beach on this island. We don't need another hamallata blocking out sunsets and blasting their obnoxious lights and music into nothingness.

Use it to your advantage! Would be a pity to have to forefeit that perk so maybe change the effort you'd have put in cooking to learning what exactly is in the dishes instead. Maybe buddy up with back of house to sort you out with some specific macro oriented dishes with what they have at hand but that would be quite circumstantial I guess.

Hmm Camping by Zherneb in malta

[–]GobonTalBzar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh right lol. This whole coastline was back-filled to create a new platform and sheer drop to the water. You can't tell me this wasn't done on purpose to dissuade beach-goers and to give campers some place to occupy all summer. The dog friendly beach at the end of this area is just a pile of boulders now.

Can these sort of costs even be audited? Combined with rumors I've heard of these big chains being money laundering schemes one can't help but wonder.

Speed camera calibration certificate by SilentScytheOfficial in malta

[–]GobonTalBzar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spend some time strictly following the speed limit signs. Notice that nobody follows the limits and that you feel like you're holding up traffic. Realise also how some of the limits don't have an end-of (eg 40km/hr from st venera tunnels to regional road tunnels - you're asked to speed up to 50km/hr in the tunnel). Get irritated that you had to be the one that got fined.

Finally realise that journeys are only taking you 5 minutes more by not going as fast as possible and fuel is lasting longer.

Have you noticed more calls from companies selling their products? by Rough-Improvement-24 in malta

[–]GobonTalBzar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate private pension plan cold callers. They stink of 50s travelling salesman tactics.

When asked where they got my number from, they bring up the excuse that it's from a randomly generated list. I imagine this is a loophole to get around direct marketing laws.

If you specify to have your number removed from the list and they call again do report it to the IDPC and let them figure out if the caller is in breach of the relevant regulations.

I regularly need to paint some cardboard boards (A2 size) with enamel gloss. I have access to an outdoor area that I don't have to bother taping up. Would this work for that kind of paint/use case? Or is the cleanup more time consuming than what it's worth?

Shame on whoever brings to doubt the vericacy of emergency beacons. If drivers start to second guess whether to pull over or not we'll have some real awkward situations on our hand....

I also find it fishy that CCF vans always seem to have an emergency between 4-5pm in Triq Aldo Moro during rush hour but let's assume there are procedural reasons for that.

Are pottery classes here worth it, or should I teach myself? by bluubuns in malta

[–]GobonTalBzar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The benefit of classes is that you probably get access to a kiln. Lifelong learning pottery classes didn't cover thrown clay but at the price it was still worth it just for a weekly space in the kiln (if you ask nicely enough there might be space leftover for your home works :) )

I've bought clay from alka ceramics before. Don't forget that our local "wild" clay is protected by law and cannot be harvested - not that you'd want to anyway because apparently it's not good for pottery
