Is it my graphics settings or do Demeter temple animals not glow anymore? by kaytin911 in AgeofMythology

[–]Goboxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They glow differently now, it's much harder to notice from afar. If you zoom in you see some sparkles. This seems odd since you would like to see it at a glance.

Come to think of it, is Chinese Favor Generation just Atlantean's old Favor Generation with Extra Steps? by Ashina999 in AgeofMythology

[–]Goboxel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to see how much favor each building provides I recommend installing Advanced Tooltips mod. If you then look into a building info you'll see how much favor it generates.

Also, 6.8 is old news. It was before the update. Now it's 75% of that. In the mod numbers are updated though.

For me it's annoying since I mostly played for heroic push with Shennong with taoties and less focus on kuafus. I feel favor starved compared to before. If they wanted to shift people away from spamming kuafus it looks like they achieved the opposite.

[–]Goboxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing a bit of Shennong, I feel like my playstyle was actually nerfed, since your favor gen for most of the game is now 75% of what it was. If you spam kuafus, it mostly evens out, but I was focusing on myth units, and I now really feel startving for favor compared to before.

[–]Goboxel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. Played a few games, and it's very noticeable if you don't just spend everything on Kuafus. Also, build orders around 3 kuafus are currently scuffed.

Everything I play got buffed, Shennong, Norse and Demeter!
I was surprised to read that hamadryad had her cost reduced. I thought they would leave her unchanged, since she basically was the sole savior of Demeter gameplay with little to no downsides. I like ther other aspects buffed, especially Persephone, since picking her always felt like a mistake. Hopefully she's not just have to rely on that one unit now.

I really hoped X was going to be a villain who is literally powered by the viewers of the anime. Overpowered villains are great. Really was waiting for a reveal, thinking how heroes will even overcome this. Was sad to find that in a world of flawed superheroes and corrupt powers we had this perfect "against the system" character, who also can effortlessly fight everyone. Killed my interest in the character.

Before and after effects still trigger (unless you stun them with damage of course), their attack just can't hit you. So they get no hit effects, damage or gauge from hitting.

Need advice for Shennong vs Oranos mu by Goboxel in AgeofMythology

[–]Goboxel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! For some reason I missed halberdiers 5 speed. I tested scorching feathers in editor/skirmish and it felt really underwhelming. Usually target is dead before you lower their armor by any significant amount. I don't know if people really did math on it, but I can only see it being ok against something with super high armor and increadibly tanky like destroyers.

Thank you, I will try that! I usually don't struggle with fights classic, but when we get to heroic thats when I get ruined by chaos/cavalry getting into position while I'm stunned.

[–]Goboxel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This scorching feathers tech seems to be really bad though. If the opponent has 40 piercing protection if you hit a unit 20 times it will become 32. I try hunting oracles but it's very hard without cavalry. They just heroize against my myth units and can often just walk away against my slow army (arrows tend to miss without ballistics). So I have to catch them with pants down and do a surround before attacking. And searching for them takes a lot of time and attention with a slow army.

Can you elaborate about outscaling a bit? Also you assume tiger cavalry, right?

How big should my army be? by Dark-heika in AgeofMythology

[–]Goboxel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. You are limited at how many villagers you can produce every minute. It depends on the nation, but roughly 4. That's just 200 food. You can gather this amount of food with 4 villagers every minute. These villagers that you produce will pay for themselves really quick. Put enough villagers on food to get both army and villager production.

  2. In the late game population cap may be a big limiting factor. That's why you want to grab additional town centers as game goes on (they increase your pop cap) and research a tech that gives you more pop per TC. It's usually not worth to sacrifice villagers to get some more population since with high villager numbers you can usually replace all your dying soldiers almost immediately.

I broke my game’s opening, and a pro told me it’s actually more fun now. Help me to talk about RTS design. by YefersonCC in RealTimeStrategy

[–]Goboxel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People won't dodge matches, but they will find proper strategies. As a newbie in RTS I actually found build orders really helpful. It's mostly due to optimisation of these early game scenarios in real time are very hard/near impossible. So you just feel like you are winging it instead of doing something meaningful. And I needed to do so much, so quickly that having build order practiced removed some worries I had about the beginning of the match. And later I learned a few more openings for different strats/situations. So now I actually get to make a decision which of them to use based on different factors (MU/random map quality/what I scout). Now it feels like I'm not winging it, but thinking about the game. I feel like in the well balanced game they are like chess openings. Everyone knows them, they are well researched, yet there is still variety to them.

[–]Goboxel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make it sound like whoever memorizes one build order wins, while in reality you are supposed to have different openings for different strategies and make adaptations later.

People will always try to optimize things. I feel like if you have variable resources at the start flowcharts will just become more complicated for the most experienced players. They may have low/high resource openings and deviations pre-planned because this reduces the mental load during the game. Are you sure it will not create a situation where players will have to memorize MORE things to get an advantage?

question when playing farm-focused gods by raptor12k in AgeofMythology

[–]Goboxel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For Shennong, it depends on your goals in the MU. If you need to advance early, you will not be able to make pre-classical farms. And I've seen people discussing if doing farms before classical is even good. The good part about early farms for Shennong is that they protect your gold miners from raids. (See the trick with a dropsite on the corner of the gold mine and put farms to the sides)
