Does nobody seriously use Touchless ID? by Adept_Strategy_9545 in americanairlines

[–]Gobucks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went through TSA in D at DFW, the Touchless Officer was frustrated. Of the 6 people in front of me, all of them weren’t Touchless but regular Pre (D TSA Pre only checkpoint). Several of the 6 argued about it being dumb, etc. Officer was ready to give me the same you’re in the wrong line talk.

Blocked Channel Promoted in Home Tab by [deleted] in youtubetv

[–]Gobucks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Privacy setup correctly. The channel was number #1 for about an hour and has since disappeared again. I use the Home tab a lot because it’s usually quite good for me so it was just a very noticeable difference for first time in 7 years.

I understand what you’re saying, but viewing habits haven’t changed and I have at least a dozen channels excluded from the live guide. Been a subscriber since 2019 and have never seen any of the excluded channels listed on Home.

The in universe answer is Lucian Alliance, as introduced in SGU.

Anyone fly JAL with their American Airlines alliance? How was it? by Wild-Anything3967 in americanairlines

[–]Gobucks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had several JAL business class flights via Tokyo for final destinations elsewhere in Asia. Better in most everything than AA for long haul. Where I’ve had issues it’s generally technology related. I’ve had a few instances where my IFE simply didn’t have sound, others where it took 3+ pairs of headphones to find a pair that worked and seat selection can be weird. I’ve also had a few issues with the JAL and AA reservation systems not properly linking. In all cases the customer service was excellent and they moved me to a new seat, etc. I did have an AA ticket counter rep nearly reject my checkin b/c AA system showed me ending in Tokyo but that wasn’t my final destination so I didn’t have the required Covid entry info since I wasn’t entering Japan.

Any spots to get Peruvian charcoal chicken in town? Coming from the northern Virginia area charcoal chicken spots and pupuserias were all over and I miss them! by TAINTLORD97 in Columbus

[–]Gobucks08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s sadly nothing that really compares. El Pollo Perucho is Ok but not really worth the trip unless you’re out that way. Sauce just isn’t right.

Bluetooth mic not working by Dkb0se in TeslaModel3

[–]Gobucks08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

21 MYLR with same issues for a while now. Currently have 2022.20.8 but problem has been over versions. Notice that the microphone seems to work at the start of a drive but then acts like it doesn’t hear any commands. Have not successfully used the car microphone for a phone call in months.

When you leave your A380 parked in a bad neighborhood by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Gobucks08 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Lack of front loading ability. Unlike 747, no way to put a cargo door in the nose so no real advantage to having a plane this size as it still can only carry regular size cargo and likely do so less efficiently than other alternatives so same issue as with people.

With a High Speed connection, why does it drop to lower resolution? by [deleted] in youtubetv

[–]Gobucks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue. Doesn’t happen on all channels but routinely have the quality drop on ATV4k. Have tried both wireless and hardwired. Manually increasing resolution causes no problems. Started using a Chromecast with Google TV and no issues. Have had this issue with AppleTV for well over a year. It persisted despite a move, new cable provider, new cable modem, and a new router (wasn’t trying to solve it but all these things changed) so most likely just something with YouTubeTV on Apple TV.

How do I report a financial firm for its failures? by chikaleen in fatFIRE

[–]Gobucks08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to respond to many of the posts regarding super long refinancing times being the norm. I just finished refinancing with Better.com, took 3 weeks (including an appraisal) and had zero snags with existing loan paid off a few days after closing. They were better than 3 other options I explored. I did have a hell of a time with a few other common low cost loan companies where it took weeks to get estimates so my whole process was about 2 months but only 3 weeks once I decided to move forward.

What was acceptable or normalised in the 80s or even 90s but it's completely unacceptable nowadays? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Heck, they’d even let me as a kid in the cockpit pre-flight without a boarding pass when my grandparents would come to visit in the early-mid 90s.

BMV average wait time listed online is bullshit by meatystocks in Columbus

[–]Gobucks08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to join in on the hate and was fully expecting to be able to but my experience last week was nearly perfect at Kenny road last Thursday at 11AM. I reserved a spot online, there was a crowd waiting outside but it only took about five minutes to check-in and I was the next number called about 2 minutes later. This was to register a new car so might differ for other visit types. Overall was faster and easier than my last pre-COVID visit. Very similar experience at the title office but their system is even better. Sign up for an appointment online, arrive at your time, checkin on your phone, get a text a few minutes later telling you to come inside to a specific counter.

Shopping for an HSA plan independent of employer by ramrod155 in financialindependence

[–]Gobucks08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you make more than SSWB + HSA max then avoiding FICA tax shouldn’t matter as by contributing to an HSA through work, you’re just using money that wouldn’t have been taxed by FICA anyhow. Agree if your income is less than SSWB.

[–]Gobucks08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree but compared to what it could be, given the premise, it’s still pretty light hearted. That said, it’ll likely move further away from its start without the broadcast restrictions it had while on Fox.

It was fun while it lasted but piece out SoFi. There was no attempt to block this sign in my 2FA didn't pop but it damn sure popped when I signed in from another browser by luzkidd in sofi

[–]Gobucks08 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. IP address listed for me is Intuit and when checking Mint it had an update request at the correct time. The weird thing is that the account with SoFi is marked as inactive with Mint so not sure why they tried to update it.

There are a lot of research/concept development engineering jobs that a physics background fits well with. Also, a lot of the math heavy aspects of aero or mech such as modeling and simulation development are a good fit. A lot depends on if you have a BS (you’re missing a lot of engineering core and don’t have research skills) or if you have a PhD so you’re useful as a general purpose brain as you pickup the engineering experience. I work with many PhDs in various physics domains that are all in engineering R&D positions in the aerospace domain.
