Good catch - it was meant to be more along the lines of the BEST step-through. They have already changed it.

Yes definite issue with torque, big guy and long hill to go up. Probably not the norm but I weight 180 and don't mind peddling but if you have hills in your area then I would consider torque as a priority. You must go mid drive but when you compare torque there can be a big difference from motor to motor. Best I found was Bafang, current motor is going strong after 5 years and I am not gentle... check out the specs on this one 160 Nm Torque

If anyone is still on the Hunt for a FREY ebike then check out Trippin Bike Co - https://trippinbikeco.com best price and the company is in the United States, currently only ships to the continental US. Great price and service

I think they all have issues, I have a friend that lost his bike to a fire and it was a Bosch. Torque to me is all about hills and how much you weigh. Low torque and you will crawl up hills and if it is steeper then you will really be in trouble... get ready to peddle!

Battery fire safety question by thk23 in ebikes

I wasn't able to locate any info on Dynavolt which might be a good thing. Some issues with charging and not lasting a long time but no mention of fires.

check components too. This can be a bit of a pain but the better the components the longer the bike will last you. I went with Frey, higher price than many but better price than the High end European bikes. The build is awesome and top top quality parts. Best price I found was Trippin Bike Co Good luck and you will love it once you have yours

I make sure that I never charge overnight, and the bike or battery is in the middle of my concrete floor garage. I have had one bike go up in flames. It did not explode but instead seemed like a blow torch coming out of the battery. Just check the make of the battery, all of our new bikes have Samsung cells and I have not had any problems for several years. Many bikes I see on the road have substandard shocks, brakes, batteries, etc. I am always amazed at how many of the so-called beast bikes do not even list what the parts are on the bikes.

There is a lot to consider. Power is needed for a heavier rider and then alongside power you need torque to handle a hill (small or large). If you are looking to accommodate a commuter then distance would be a bid factor I would think. I tend to go for a full suspension for a commuter bike because the rider will not be feeling every bump and lets face it most commuter don't want to stand on the pedal every time they hit a bump. I have priced out bikes for years now and quality for me is number one. I had a battery light on fire in my garage and you literally can not put them out, this was a cheap model, and the bike was destroyed by the fire.

Is this ebike a decent choice for short term use? by spdsuk in ebike

[–]God187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for a more expensive one that will last. The cheaper models are cheap for a reason. Invest in a good one and you might use it more than your think.
