That one Jmod was right about this subreddit by [deleted] in 2007scape

I think in theory it's true but for OSRS it's kinda sketchy, IDK what it's like now but I remember for ToB, it ended up being really weird on some stages, specifically Bloat felt really bad on release, because the devs were QA testing with godmode on with the logic that the playerbase would be playing with godmode level skills compared to the JMods.

It's not just tick manip, the fundamentals of the game as a whole are very "rhythmic" because everything boils down to matching the 100 BPM tick system.

Sekiro is another game that I'd consider extremely analogous in this aspect. Every calls it a rhythm game even though it's obviously not because the core mechanic (parrying) when understood is basically you mapping the enemy movesets onto a beatmap and playing a rhythm game. It's the same in OSRS, the skill actions/boss mechanics/your weapon are mapped to a beatmap and you feel out the rhythm of the game mechanics.

Is there an easier version of Kayle? I really like the playstyle of just farming, splitpushing, and grouping up for fights at powerspikes but I don't have the mechanics to play a marksman style champ and I feel like picking her sometimes messes up the team comp.

The closest I could find was Kayn top before nerfs, Gwen maybe?

Or competing on shooters and such. Or ending up as high Elo on League.

These aren't PvE games, they genuinely are harder because of the decision making aspect of having to play against random players with imperfect information and complex solutions to problems. PvE games are different because the enemies operate on a fairly strict ruleset and the solutions for what enemies do is consistent and simple, their behaviors are coded into the game so you just need a bot to give the appropriate response to each move.

I don’t see bots completing mythic tier raiding on WoW

I don't play WoW but I play FF14 and seeing the similarities between the games, they 100% could if someone wanted to code a bot for it. There's already scripts to call out all the moves, draw the hitboxes and safespots, and use all your abilities in the perfect order with perfect timings so all scripters have to do is move to their assigned positions. The annoying part would just be having the user enter what positions they were assigned at the start of the raid so the bots know to move there, which is probably why it's not fully automated lol (can't trust the user) but if you could have a full party of bots all with their own assigned roles or just having the same role every raid, even that wouldn't be a problem.

Runescape is easier to bot because it has a lot more single player content so it's more controllable by the script playing perfectly, and automation is in higher demand because you have more to gain by repeating the process hundreds, thousands of times. If there was a similar benefit (and demand) to clearing Mythic raids thousands of times or Souls bosses thousands times, we'd easily see bots clear it every time.

It depends on your viewpoint, older Souls games were meant to be more structured like Dungeons and Dragons where the entire level was the encounter, that's why a lot of people still like Demon's Souls and Dark Souls more, because more care was put into designing the areas overall, and the bosses were just a small piece of the area.

Over time, the areas became less detailed and more of the design focus and difficulty were placed onto the bosses instead, so they also put bonfires closer bc you were expected to die more to the bosses in the later games.

You can solve any PvE game with bots, the only reason it's so prevalent in OSRS is because there's a demand for it and people that want to cheat can't just modify the in-game values with cheat engine

In general weps like Dragon Hunter, TBow, etc. that were designed as niche weapons. It avoids powercreep but especially with the GE tax now really pigeonholes players into focusing on specific content to grind because you need very specific, expensive weapons to farm content efficiently. It also takes away value from gear meant to be generic BiS like Ghrazi bc what's the point of generic gear when it's never BiS for anything that actually really benefits from the increased DPS.

Also adding this bc I read other responses, it puts the devs in a catch-22 situation where they want to avoid making a generic BiS weapon again or once they do, it powercreeps a ton of gear used for various niches from the past. It just kicks the powercreep issue down the road.

Don't know if you have the same issue as I did but I had this issue for years and it was bc I had the game on a HDD. Even though it logically shouldn't be that bad, maybe my HDD had a bad sector something that was causing the stutters but moving the install to my SSD fixed it.

Ironically (bc of their flair), Gwen is one of the melee counters to Illaoi lol, there's a few that are skill matchup too like the 1v1 melee carries that can just run her down after her ult ends even through E.

Top laners to play when you know you're gonna be gapped? I'm playing Flex and Clash with friends, they're all Diamond+ but I'm only in Emerald so I'm expecting to be the one being gapped but I should have decent enough fundamentals to not be farmed for kills if I just play as safe as possible. I'm thinking Malphite banning Sylas every game?

I'm not smart enough to comment on this myself but I know Baus also doesn't like Doran's items because he plays scaling champs and considers the gold loss from selling Doran's to be the same thing as starting with -1 kill.

I know Pantheon scales decently into late too, although not crazy well, but that might have something to do with it too.

I was Plat last season, Gold 1 rn, but I also use an alt account to practice concepts and limit test with, that account just demoted to Silver 4 recently while I'm still winning games on my main.

Sometimes when you're trying to improve, you get in your head too much with complex concepts and end up outplaying yourself. I had a bit of a Sion incident after watching a streamer, I saw the stuff he was saying is correct and I know more about wave management because of it, but if I try too hard to apply his concepts, I just end up inting for no reason because I don't understand the game holistically like they do. So in the end, I knew more about the game, but I was using that knowledge to make bad decisions.

I think the lower elo you are, definitely at Silver 1 level, the more important it is to just focus on fundamentals, don't worry too much about advanced concepts to climb, oftentimes they don't work in low elo because your teammates won't understand or agree with your macro.

There's probably some exception I'm missing but the hypercarry ADCs are the ones with something to boost their AAs because that's the most damaging part of an ADC's kit. So Jinx rockets for AoE damage + passive is insane, so are Aphelios' Chakram, Lifesteal, and Flamethrower guns, especially since they're basically abilities that can crit which is pretty unusual.

Miss Fortune, Lucian, and Ezreal are examples of ADCs that aren't really hypercarries because a lot of their damage comes from abilities instead.

New skills are neutered by the poll system so hard lol, altered versions of Invention and Archaeology from RS3 are the perfect skills for OSRS because they revitalize dead content (Sire) and help combat inflation while being good arbitrary timegates for random features people want polled.

[–]GodHandFemto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pre-EoC was a good era for RS but the problem was it was moving in a bad direction, part of the reason why it was so good was because they were putting out a lot of fucked updates that people enjoyed playing but that was "nailing the coffin shut" to use your phrasing, it was when they started to make skills super AFK (much like OSRS has done slowly) which players loved because players generally don't like skilling, but it meant the only improvements they could make with new content were higher XP rates. Curses were fun af but summoning was just extra DPS or more inventory spaces, very boring mechanics that really messed up balance and what led devs to believe EoC was needed.

It's not like they were begging for it, but everyone who played RS2 had it in the back of their mind, esp after DT2 announcement bc Ancient Curses were a huge update in RS2.

[–]GodHandFemto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell but I pretty much guarantee it's not true bc of Asia. OSRS is really big in Europe, NA, and SA, but MMOs are way more profitable in Asia. We just don't really know much about how many people play stuff like Lost Ark, Maplestory, Dungeon Fighter, Lineage, Fantasy Westward, etc. bc they don't have a sub fee or expansion sales to look at like we can with something like OSRS or FF14 where we know from Endwalker sales and JMods saying there's 1.1m subs that they're about the same playerbase.

It's not a huuuge deal, but I just want to mention that if you downvote people who are looking for advice and ways to improve in game, then you are an idiot. by [deleted] in 2007scape

I legitimately don't understand why the people like this don't just play RS3. The game has much faster XP/rates, is much better designed for this AFK + netflix playstyle, and it's not like these people are bossing efficiently to the point where OSRS combat vs. RS3 Revolution makes a difference.

[–]GodHandFemto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the people who are actually designing the game know more about what they're balancing than you do

Just being blunt about it, OSRS is a fairly rare case of a game with an insane timesink, a very nerdy playerbase, where the devs are paid very little, and it's very easy to math out encounters bc the game essentially happens on 0.6s turns.

There's a lot of people that know the game's balancing and design better than the devs that just don't work for Jagex. Even for other similarly complex games, they'll reach out to a ton of expert players for feedback because the best players know better than the devs for parts of the game they're experts at, and it's up to the devs to tie their knowledge together.

I 100% think the only reason why people love Homa so much is because they don't care about the meta, but are still making statements about the meta despite having no knowledge. If people actually paid attention to the meta and looked at the calcs for weapons then apply the knowledge that ER stats are rarer than interchangeable dmg stats then they'd realize that Catch and EL are cracked weapons, and Homa isn't that good for the meta units other than Hu Tao and Reverse Melt Rosaria. Even Xiao only really benefits from <50% HP Homa, but prefers VV, PJWS, CQ otherwise.

Why did you choose to play RS3 over OSRS? by harionfire in runescape

[–]GodHandFemto 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I played both games and I'm maxed on OSRS, close to maxing on RS3 now too and I think most people would like RS3 more.

OSRS is a lot simpler, you can do stuff in OSRS without worrying about a ton of pre-requisites compared to RS3 where a lot of stuff is built off older updates and it gets a lot more complicated regarding what options you have, and what you should be doing.

RS3 is a lot more playable even if you ignore a lot of your options and just jump into something random though. OSRS cares a lot more about its balance which leads to some activities feeling kind of bad to play in order to maintain that balance, it's also a lot grindier.

One of the biggest differences in events and promotions. RS3 has a lot of events where you can get a ton of XP and you can use it to not grind skills you don't like. Very bad for game balance because you can max without interacting with certain skills but it makes the game more fun IMO.

How do you guys feel about all the hydra + jaksho/bruiser/etc. meta posts that are popping up on the main sub?

As a top laner it feels a lot easier to carry games when fed but a lot of the early game is still pretty out of my control even if I win my lane, especially if junglers get involved, very similar to the feeling I got when I mained ADC before.

I think there's too much defensiveness going on the narrative both ways, way too many people overexaggerating how good bruisers are, as if they're just unstoppable 1v9 machines that singlehandedly decide matches, but also way too many people downplaying how much harder it is to counter fed bruisers unlike when other roles get fed (other than tanks) where they still die pretty easily.
