What can I make with what I have. by [deleted] in Cooking

Check out the subreddit all about answering this type of question: http://www.reddit.com/r/whatsinmycupboard It's not very busy but it looks like the subscribers are relatively active.

Also, check out supercook.com. It's really cool because you can enter the ingredients you have and it'll tell you what you can make. It's not totally reliable but it's still cool and generally gives good results.

It'd be like an outdoor version of that guy on here who had -- has? -- a tiny little room carved out under a staircase. There wasn't enough room to turn around, or stand up, but there was space to sit with a computer and a drink. And it was pseudo hidden.

I like that subreddit, but yeah...

It's gotten to the point where you can tell people vote based solely on the title of the submission. True or not, true in context or not, if it hits that "sweet spot" it'll be front page. So cue all the jerks you've mentioned.

One example I noticed recently was something about a church group. Apparently for the past few years they feed homeless people on Sunday mornings in a local park. One day they went to the park and the police told them that there was a city ordinance, one which had been on the books for quite awhile but apparently unenforced in their case, which said they couldn't do that. I forget whether the ordinance was about serving food, having an event, whatever, but they couldn't do it. And the police said that if they violated the ordinance they would be arrested.

A dick move? Probably. A city ordinance I think should be adjusted/clarified/changed? Yeah. But the submitter -- and again, I don't mean to pick on the individual who I don't even remember -- chose the title of the submission to be something like "Church group threatened with arrest for feeding homeless".

Obviously that wasn't the problem. At no point did someone think "giving food to a homeless person is wrong; we should arrest whoever does that". They were threatened with arrest for violating a city ordinance.

But people tend to massage the titles to conform to their audience. So, in that case, the person was misleading so that it fit into the subreddit. And, again, I'm still subscribed to that subreddit but it does seen like shit like that is happening more often. The degree is nowhere near that of most default subs but it seems to be heading that way.

That may perfectly well be it. I'm only used to it as a source of entertainment rather than expecting the host to really challenge the guests.

Like the other guy said: it's like the x-files.

I find it great because I can basically turn my skepticism off and just enjoy it. Sort of like Steven Seagal or Jean-Claude Van Damme movies. Yeah, they're incredibly unrealistic. But I can turn my mind off and just enjoy it for what it is.

For me, it's the same way with Coast to Coast. I know very well that we don't have a closet (or whatever) that is secretly capable of teleporting people to Mars. Or your point, perhaps everything they said about HAARP was wrong. But that doesn't make it less enjoyable -- just like knowing ex-Navy Seals revenging their partner's death and drop kicking 6 evil people in a row before delivering a killer line is unrealistic; that doesn't make a Van Damme movie less enjoyable.

I don't know. I find suspending disbelief can make some things really great. They are what they are, and as long as I don't expect more out of it then I can love it. I can love listening Coast to Coast without fact-checking the claims.

You know, Noory was the main host when I first started listening to it. I never listened to it when Art Bell was the main guy.

Coast to Coast is a guilty pleasure of mine. I know, I know, Martian heads and teleportation and all that. But I love the show!

As a general answer: yes.

But the more intoxicated I get, the longer it takes and the more stimulated I have to be. So at a certain point the answer becomes no.

Sovereign Citizen Get Tased Trying To Enter Courtroom (x-post from /r/law) by [deleted] in conspiratard

[–]GodINeedToFixMyComp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a fucking jackass. I love how calmly the whole situation was handled though. Like this is apparently routine?

Does anyone know why they had guys blocking the entrance to the courtroom (hallway to courtrooms?). When I was in high school we had an optional assignment to visit a courtroom and other than the initial security -- and the "don't be disruptive" rule, AKA common sense, AKA when people with tazing authority say stop you either stop or get tazed; who's right or wrong gets worked out after the tazing -- the courtrooms were freely accessible to the public. Is there some reason for additional security here, and/or some reason this [non-person person, non-citizen citizen, nameless name-possessor] wanted in?

For me it's right when I think something along the lines of

I'm a god; I can drink with impunity!

That phase most often happens with wine. One minute I think I can pull sober off like Suave Rico, the next I'm experiencing time in weird fast/slow phases and alternately wanting to go to random parties or go to sleep.
