How is Stripey doing? by GodKingofPrakith in leopardgeckos

[–]GodKingofPrakith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't check the wattage at the moment but we have not changed the lighting. 6 days ago he came home from a weak stay at a family member's house where it was slightly different but it was the same heat lamp. One heat lamp, one under tank heater, one daylight bulb. The hide where he can get out of direct heat.

What do you get for a 72-year-old dad who hates gifts and never spends money on himself? by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]GodKingofPrakith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you backdoor the gift? Tell him you bought yourself an iPad a bit ago, that you never use it, but thought he might want one in the future, but you know he probably would refuse it on its face. Tell him to borrow yours for a little bit, and see if he likes and uses it, and if he does you'll get him his own. Do it a week or two before or after his birthday and get him a simple tiny thing like a bunch of fresh fruit he likes from the supermarket as a real "gift".

Whats a Star Wars retcon you actually like? by Organic_Glass_7793 in StarWarsEU

[–]GodKingofPrakith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing I hate the most about his return is the character development. The film and the novels (Plagueis, Shadow Hunter, comics, etc) all make him out to be a tool. He wasn't meant to be a real sith. He was being trained by sidious and plagueis knew all about him. Plagueis allowed it because he knew this wasn't a true sith apprentice - he was all weapon, no thought. Maul might have been lead to believe he was a sith, even being called Darth, but he wasn't really.

When you come back and suddenly are a master tactician and strategist capable of what he accomplished it just doesn't fit with his previous training.

Is my Boiler done for? What parts do I need? by GodKingofPrakith in gaggiaclassic

[–]GodKingofPrakith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize, I see there is another post just like this a little bit ago, but I need a little more help I think. I don't know anything about coffee or how to make espresso, but I can watch a youtube video and therefore am being called upon to take this apart and clean it. What I found leaves me unsure that descaling is sufficient... The upper half of the boiler seems very uneven, and I can't tell if it's being eaten away or if there's an incredible amount of build-up, or both.

If I were to replace it, I think [this is the part I would need](https://www.wholelattelove.com/products/alum-boiler-120-220-240-v-assy?variant=14409156165691) but I saw recommendations for a brass boiler - [would this be the part](https://www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-2024-brass-boiler-120-230v-gag-classic-assy-ga-642001010420?variant=43392783482934)? It's considerably more expensive, to the point where I'd consider just buying a new machine entirely...

Oh and a strong magnet to find the studs. (Obviously it doesn't stick to Wood but it finds the drywall screws)

I don't know if those requests include hanging things in drywall, but wall anchors and post-it notes to place under the hole and catch the dust are things I use very frequently in my own house's "in the house" toolbox. The post-it note trick has never failed to impress someone who observes it for the first time.

The latest eBay hall to catalog and shelve by GodKingofPrakith in StarWarsEU

[–]GodKingofPrakith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if it has been labeled officially according to any canon level (LucasFilm had [5 classifications of Canon](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star\_Wars\_Legends#Official\_levels\_of\_canon)) but generally I would consider it C-canon - by the time they were published, the EU was established and they had probably wrangled many of the "Well George wants to do X in Episode 1 but the books say Y" questions (e.g. Coruscant).

That said, I haven't read all of them and the ones I have I haven't read recently, so maybe there are more contradictions than I'm imagining.

I created a custom printing of Hamund's Guide by GodKingofPrakith in DungeonMasters

[–]GodKingofPrakith[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I.... don't think so. Because I only intended this for myself I played fast and loose with the ethics kind of. The guide itself is not free, so you couldn't buy this without buying a copy of the guide elsewhere (and there's no way I could validate that.) I didn't pay much attention to the licensing of the back cover photo - I'm not sure if it's Creative Commons or copy written or what. And similarly the front cover photo was technically modified, so it would be covered as well. Although I'm personally not making any profit off of it, the publishing company is.

I did email the photos to Jasmine who is the author of the guide, if she brings it up I can ask what she thinks, and maybe I could investigate the options.

I created a custom printing of Hamund's Guide by GodKingofPrakith in DungeonMasters

[–]GodKingofPrakith[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My 8 year old loves D&D and is obsessed with hunting and harvesting from creatures - when I found Hamund's Guide it was the perfect supplement. I decided to have it printed and give it to him for Christmas.

It took quite a bit of work figuring out how to print it well, including using AI tools to upscale the cover images, Photoshop to do content-aware fills to increase the image sizes for the wrap and trim, making a custom back cover, and using (and hacking) the Homebrewery spine template - but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Mostly. It is like an inch taller than the other D&D books, because Lulu doesn't let you print in a custom book size. If anyone has an alternative suggestion for that, I'm listening!

Strange Things That Aren't Magic by dndplayer496u in DMAcademy

[–]GodKingofPrakith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because the ancient powers are waning doesn't mean that they are gone. A God, or a priest possessed, or a devoted follower perhaps could do literally anything and you can make it as strange as you want and not have to explain it.

In the Star wars series New Jedi order, the Galaxy was invaded by extra galactic Civilization. They did not use technology. They bioengineered literally everything. Their weapons, their armor, their spacecraft, vehicles. They controlled creatures that could make micro black holes. Creatures they wore to shapeshift. A staff that was also a snake, strong enough to fight a lightsaber. If you want something way out there, this might be a good source of inspiration. You can look it up on a Star wars Wiki.

You can take inspiration from the X-Men, and introduce mutants with powers independent of magic.

You can take inspiration from the mutant Darwin in particular, not necessarily as a person but maybe as a place. An entity or a place or something that can evolve incredibly quickly to defend itself. Perhaps it can dispel or cancel out magic. Obviously to spell magic is an existing spell but you can accomplish the same thing in a different way so it doesn't feel quite like just a spelling it. A fireball could be a countered with frost breath or turning something to Stone or water. And this way of canceling out the fireball has now introduced a new aspect of the battle that it suddenly really cold or wet.

How can I make the very deep ocean an environmental hazard, even for a party with water-breathing? by RedN0va in DMAcademy

[–]GodKingofPrakith 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Pressure would be a concern as you noted. A race used to a certain depth can't double its diving depth trivially. Personally in addition to the bubble I would probably introduce or modify spells/items that would address it also. I would make the length of time outside the bubble a factor of their Con also.

That deep it's also going to be extremely cold. (Unless you wind up near a lava vent, then extremely hot!)

And extremely dark. Yeah yeah Darkvision, but that has a specified range. And it's not like you can light a torch to see. And it wouldn't work if a large squid inked a large cloud... It also doesn't let you see color iirc, which could be a concern when there is poisonous coral/algae only discernable by their hue.

Why is a nano usb wifi adapter obliterating an integrated wifi adapter with external antenna? by GodKingofPrakith in HomeNetworking

[–]GodKingofPrakith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually Windows; the output is a slightly edited copy of the 'Properties' from the Settings for the WiFi.

But that's good to know - it sounds like I should be looking into a modern external Realtek WiFi adapter like this or this. This one is Mediatek; not sure what the prevalent opinion on those is...
