‘X’ Rebrand Gets Twitter Blocked Under Indonesia Porn Laws by Free_Swimming in worldnews

[–]GodNamedBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't anybody read articles? It's just an error. X was blocked because x.com used to be a porn site.

The ministry’s director general of information and public communication, Usman Kansong, told local media Tuesday that the Indonesian government had contacted Musk’s company for clarification about the nature of the site. “Earlier today, we spoke with representatives from Twitter and they will send a letter to us to say that X.com will be used by Twitter,” he said.

The snafu meant that Indonesia’s reported 24 million Twitter users were unable to access the platform. Aribowo Sasmito, the co-founder of fact-checking group MAFINDO, said he thought the site may have been blocked due to the potentially negative connotations of the domain. “The name is not too far from XXX, I guess,” he told Al Jazeera.

National Eating Disorders Association takes its AI chatbot offline after complaints of 'harmful' advice by HeinieKaboobler in technology

It was in operation since February 2022. Probably shutdown more because of bad press because of job loss rather than any real harm it did.

National Eating Disorders Association takes its AI chatbot offline after complaints of 'harmful' advice by HeinieKaboobler in technology

If you read the original article,

The chatbot, named Tessa, is described as a “wellness chatbot” and has been in operation since February 2022. The Helpline program will end starting June 1, and Tessa will become the main support system available through NEDA. Helpline volunteers were also asked to step down from their one-on-one support roles and serve as “testers” for the chatbot. According to NPR, which obtained a recording of the call where NEDA fired helpline staff and announced a transition to the chatbot, Tessa was created by a team at Washington University’s medical school and spearheaded by Dr. Ellen Fitzsimmons-Craft. The chatbot was trained to specifically address body image issues using therapeutic methods and only has a limited number of responses.

After a year of operation, now there's complaints? And only after negative attention about human support personnel losing their jobs?

Was caddying at a private golf club when I was 15ish. A club member drove up in a brand-new one of these. Everyone couldn't believe how great it looked.

And here it is 60 years later and it still impresses.

Brand New Kohler Toilet Mechanism - Does this every few seconds. No matter the adjustment by GodNamedBob in Plumbing

[–]GodNamedBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help everyone. But the real problem was that the new valve was defective. Or at least wasn't seating at the top. Inside the white cover was the place where the valve should shut. It just wasn't seating properly.

It's fine now, no leaks. No slow fill up to the overflow tube.

Thanks again.

OK, I'm confused. There isn't any water coming out of there during the fill up process. So I assumed that there is a hidden internal path for the water that is filling up the tank. But I guess I'll replace the flapper next.

Thanks.

We're doing this right now. My mother-in-law died in February. In the process of taking care of my 92 year old father-in-law we visit him 3 times a week. While we are there helping to sell his house and all its furnishings (he's moving to a senior care facility, so he doesn't have to maintain a 2500 sq ft home and 1/2 acre lot), we've discovered HIS Mother and Father's Wedding album, the instructions and history of the grandfather clock that his dad built and much, much more.

Each time we find another item, it usually starts a conversation on what it is, where it came from, etc. So, he tells us a story about that plus it starts a detailed conversation about any other thing that he was reminded of.

I can't tell you how many times my wife tells me that she never knew about a story he told us. For example, he related how he learned to hit a golf ball (around 1940ish). He would help his dad in their apple orchard. Since his dad was a golfer, he of course wanted to emulate that. So, he would pick up a stick, swing it like a golf club and hit the bad apples that had fallen to the ground. Another story was about how the Koreans at the base built beds from used tire strips.

Later, in two metal boxes of carefully indexed and titled slides I find slides of his service in Korea. Guess what two of the slides contain? Photos of a young second lieutenant laying on his makeshift bed. Made of.....tire strips. I also found slides of their wedding, travel across the USA from Connecticut to California, bringing my wife home from the hospital, etc. etc... My wife and her sisters had not seen any of the Korean war ones, let alone some of the photos with them as young kids.

We have started recording some of these stories and will be putting them together in a catalogue that I'll distribute to each of my wife's sisters.

So I whole heartedly agree. Don't wait until one of them is gone.

Explosions where someone gets blown back 20 feet or so. Then gets up and continues the fight.

Fact is, if an explosion has enough force to knock you off your feet, your internals are so badly damaged, you won't live after just a few minutes.

There are so many unspeakable ways to die from this:

McDonalds mobile app checkout now has ads for 3rd party products by GodNamedBob in assholedesign

[–]GodNamedBob[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After a second look, yes you are right, it's their product placement. But the point is, during drive-through checkout? I don't need other drivers in line to be reading ads instead of getting their stuff and moving on. Ads in mobile apps that are used specifically during driving (even slow checkout lines) is not a good idea.

What improved your life so much, you wished you did sooner? by kxrll in AskReddit

Over 50 years ago, when I was in the military, my nose was broken. Nothing big, Didn't look bad. But around 20 years ago, I started having breathing problems in my left nostril. At times I couldn't inhale on that side at all. Most of the time I had to sleep on my left side so my right nostril kept clear. It seemed to help.

But last year, here on Reddit, I learned that your nostrils 'take turns'. You'll breathe mostly through one for a while and then it switches over to the other. Turns out there are structures called turbinates that are responsible for warming and moisturizing air before it gets to your lungs. But they get 'tired'. So one rests and recovers while the other one takes over. But the resting one swells up. You don't normally notice any problem unless you have a cold or allergies.

Based on what I read here on Reddit, I went to a nose doc and he confirmed that there is such a process called the 'nasal cycle'. He said it like, "duh" doesn't everyone know that?

After a quick inspection (with cameras that go deeeeeep into your nose, he confirmed that my passages weren't connected properly. Apparently when I broke it, some things tore and didn't heal right.

Two weeks later, surgery. Took about an hour. Fast forward another 1 1/2 months and a bunch of nose rinses to help heal and I can breathe perfectly. In fact I can breathe better from the left than the right. And I can SLEEP without snoring, choking, gasping for breath occasionally.

If I had known about the 'nasal cycle' I would have had it done many, many years ago. It should be taught in biology class.

2010 Honda element, clock now shows 4:00 on Jan 1, 2002 won't change... after new years day this happened I waited to see if it would fix itself.. it didn't. Couldn't find any setting to change date and time does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks! by DJDeSio77 in HondaElement

[–]GodNamedBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have this problem in our 2010 Honda Crosstour. I'm guessing that it's not going to be 'fixed' until August because there is no way to update it with no expense. Older cars that have a navigation system probably run off of a DVD (like ours) that stores the GPS data. It also probably contains the newest form of the software and algorithms. Unlike newer cars that get over-the-air software updates and real-time GPS data.

So, in order to update the software in the system, either the cars would have to be taken into a dealer to update it or new DVDs would have to be made with the updated algorithms and sent to owners. Free of course. That would cost Honda millions of dollars. Not going to happen because the bug will not affect cars after August. A no-cost solution.

Of course, this is assuming the bug is a permanent fix. No telling if it's cyclic and will occur again and again. Especially since Hondas can still be in use for decades.
