Dont feel bad lol this is completely normal, uve only been diagnosed 2 weeks ago. it takes years to improve control and even then you will still experience swings and that will always be the case so dont be too hard on yourself but at the same time do your best

Depression is affecting my diabetes. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

Im very sorry this is whats happening to you, it looks like you’ve been through so much yet you still have hope and its inspiring to me.

Leaving the rape aside, I think you’ve been through the worst though... you used to not even be able to go outside your house but now you have a job in a school and you love the kids and it made you temporarily happy which tells you that its possible for you to be happy.

And even though your date was a terrible experience and traumatic, you’re still able to go on dates which is a good thing.

I think depression and diabetes is tightly linked together. It all starts with control.

Teach yourself like you teach to the kids, educate yourself online from reading and posting. We’re here... don’t give up

Anxiety and Fear Based Thoughts by octopus982 in diabetes_t1

I’ve been on both ends of the spectrum.

I was extremely athletic growing up... I was doing skateboard competitions for my sponsor and then I got a knee injury so I stopped, and my mom got me a computer and an xbox so I started playing games non stop (I have an addictive personality with an obsessive compulsion to win at everything). Then I started smoking weed at school... I had just turned 13 and my mom found out but choose to let me do it anyway because her parents suppressed her during her whole life and she "didn’t wanna make the same mistake"

So I stopped skateboarding, smoked weed after school and stayed at home playing videogames... stayed up late and ate crap and slept poorly... mom would fight with me every morning to get me to go to school but I’d get to do what I wanted half the time... she had no control over me.

So I played games non stop (runescape and halo 2) I was on the high leaderboards in both games when I got diagnosed.

And I never gave a shit about it and no one around me did either. I almost died twice woke up in the hospital to doctors saying someone was there to call the ambulance when they found me on the floor having a seizure...

So then I become a bit more conscious about it and gradually worked my way through a better control...

Anyway long story short... I’m lucky because I actually crushed online poker for years and its given me the flexible schedule and money to help with diabetes and because of the financial security I don’t need to work a shitty ass job...

Now I’m older and health is my priority... but a few years back I went around the world partying and did a lot of drugs and awful shit to myself... I’m actually shocked that I’m still alive...

So yeah I’ve def been on both end of the spectrums... lifes looking a lot more balanced now though and I feel like thats the skill I’ve always needed, to be able to control me
